Anime Black Clover manga major character deaths unexpectedly happens in surprise spring 2025 chapter
Lucius Zogratis is nothing if not a villain, and he raises the stakes in Black Clover's final arc by removing three long-time characters from play in one fell swoop. The Black Clover manga returned in a big way this Spring with a reintroduction chapter that shocked fans to their core. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In Chapter 379, three of these side-characters—Gueldre Poizot, Revchi Salik, and Marx Francois—are immediately killed off in one blow by the series' primary antagonist, Lucius Zogratis. Their unexpected death throws the series into one of darker and more poignant periods in this manga so far. The series is newly ongoing in Jump GIGA after moving from Weekly Shonen Jump in 2023. Though the anime still hasn't confirmed a fifth season, the manga has still been providing huge surprises even as it approaches its endgame. Lucius Zogratis has to eliminate these three essential characters Lucius Zogratis, the current host of the underworld devil Astaroth, shows just how powerful he's gotten. Then, in Chapter 379, he teleports Gueldre, Revchi, and Marx directly onto the battlefield—and kills them immediately with one stroke. Their deaths act as both a show of his overwhelming power and a threat to Asta and Yuno, the series' protagonists. Each one of the three victims has played an important role in building this narrative since its early arcs. Gueldre Poizot, former captain of the Purple Orca squad, famed for his black market deal-making and subsequent redemption during the Elf Reincarnation Arc. Revchi Salik, a rogue Magic Knight first introduced in Chapter 1, who unsuccessfully attempted to steal Yuno's grimoire. Marx Francois, the Wizard King's most loyal advisor, whose communication and memory altering magic helped defend the Clover Kingdom from invasive forces. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The passing of these long-time fan-favorite characters raises the emotional stakes of this now raging war and illustrates just how much of a threat Lucius is becoming. Lucius gains new powers via grimoire tower connection In this chapter, Lucius divulges that, in addition to Clover's capital, he's tethered himself to all of Clover Kingdom's Grimoire Towers. In the universe of Black Clover, when a powerful mage dies, their grimoire is returned to one of these towers. By linking himself to this system, Lucius is granted instant access to the magical power of any deceased mage. After the defeat of Gueldre and Revchi and the killing of Gueldre, Revchi's Chain Magic is used to bind Yuno, and Marx's Communication Magic is used to broadcast the battle throughout the entire Kingdom. Though he hasn't used Gueldre's Permeation Magic as of this writing, it's more than likely part of his arsenal now too. As the world watches the Clover Kingdom's impending defeat, Lucius makes a bold announcement to the world, declaring the Clover Kingdom's fall is nigh and making them all witness what may be its final moments. The meaning of their passings their deaths' effect While not main characters, Gueldre, Revchi, and Marx had extensive backstories with heavy ties into the lore of the world that were intricately tied to major events happening in the series. Revchi became a tragic figure, a once-promising knight betrayed by his own captain and driven to villainy. Disgraced captain of a once-mighty elven army, Gueldre along with the High King's men decided to betray their king and turn to save the kingdom from such an outcome. A nobleman of high birth who treated commoners with dignity, Marx was one of Julius's most faithful henchmen. Their deaths are not just a significant character event. We see the impact of their deaths in the loss of history, experience, and hope for the Clover Kingdom. It is not surprising, then, that the show's final arc has been building toward the ultimate showdown. The final arc of Black Clover, also started in 2022, has been setting things up towards a climactic payoff. Lucius is still the main antagonist, having devoured the might of dozens of devils and sorcerers. His goal is to refashion the world in his own preferred variant of peace. As we reach every new chapter, the stakes only seem to get higher. Chapter 380 provides a ray of hope — a sad state of affairs indeed. One thing is for certain—the odds have never been more stacked against our fans' favorite characters, leaving them to wonder who will make it out of this conflict alive—and if Asta and Yuno can actually defeat Lucius before he turns the world to darkness for good. Where to read Black Clover New chapters of Black Clover are released quarterly in Jump GIGA and are simulpub in English on MANGA Plus and VIZ Media's Shonen Jump platform.
