Big win for the Wests Tigers as Api Koroisau agrees to long-term extension

The Wests Tigers have locked in the 'heart and soul of the team' after co-captain Api Koroisau agreed to a new deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2028 season. It's a huge boost for coach Benji Marshall who said recently that the club was all in on the veteran hooker after it emerged that young gun Tallyn Da Silva was leaving to join the Parramatta Eels so he could get more opportunities in first grade, while the club has also had to deal with Lachlan Galvin leaving to join the Canterbury Bulldogs. Koroisau, 32, has won three titles and remains one of the craftiest hookers in the NRL and a key figure for the Tigers who are continuing to build a new identity under Marshall. He joined the club in 2023 after a very successful stint at Penrith, with the former NSW dummy-half a shining light in a team that has struggled on and off the field. 'This club has become family to me. I've felt nothing but support from the players, staff, and especially Benji - he's someone I really admire and enjoy playing under,' he said. 'I'm stoked to re-sign and can't wait to help lead this team for a few more years.' The news comes a week after the club re-signed Tristan Hope who will move into the top 30 squad, with Koroisau to remain their main man for the next three seasons. The contract extension also means new franchises can't go after him, while his decision to stay could play a key role in keeping stars or enticing others to join the club. 'Api is a great player but more so he is the heart and soul of this team,' Marshall said. 'His leadership, experience and energy are invaluable. Having him commit to our future is massive for the direction we are heading in. 'We are thrilled to have him and his wonderful family here long term.'

Wests Tigers player linked with switch to rival club as details of medical emerge

The Wests Tigers have reportedly made Adam Doueihi an improved offer to stay at the club but the fan favourite could be on the move at the end of the season, with two rival NRL clubs linked with his signature. One of those clubs is reportedly the Dragons, where he underwent a medical at the end of last season, despite no deal being forthcoming. The other club said to be showing interest in the versatile ball-player is four-time defending premiers Penrith, who could view Doueihi as an ideal replacement for Luke Garner, who it's understood has been granted permission to seek opportunities elsewhere. Doueihi has performed in a number of roles for Benji Marshall's side, ranging from centre to the halves and even at lock, where he starred in Sunday's thrilling one-point win over the Titans. Doueihi kicked the last-minute field goal for the Tigers that snatched a 21-20 victory over Gold Coast in front of a packed crowd at Leichhardt Oval. The 26-year-old's current contract expires at the end of the season and his signing with powerful player agent Isaac Moses has led to renewed speculation he could leave for an NRL rival in 2026. Nine league reporter Michael Chammas confirmed there is interest in Doueihi from at least one rival club but says Tigers officials met with the player recently and are keen to hang onto him. "There's definitely a chance (he could stay at the Tigers)," Chammas told Nine's 100% Footy on Monday night. "The Tigers have met with Adam Doueihi. They want to keep him. The original offer, I believe, was around $350,000. My understanding is that they have upped that in recent days to maybe around $400,000. But the Dragons are circling." RELATED: Broncos' cap squeeze could claim another star as 'formal' offers touted Tigers player escapes charge over tackle that left superstar injured Craig Bellamy flags further absence for Storm star Cameron Munster Dragons renew their interest in signing Adam Doueihi Shane Flanagan's Dragons are set to lose experienced forward Jack de Belin to Parramatta next year and their halves issues have been well publicised in 2025, meaning Doueihi's signing would make a lot of sense. The 26-year-old underwent a medical with the Dragons at the end of last season after returning from the third knee reconstruction of his career, but a move never eventuated. However, Chammas says the Dragons are again looking at bringing Doueihi to the club next season after being impressed by his versatility with the Tigers. "It gives them a ball-playing lock option, utility, can kick goals, we know he can play in the halves, in the centres," Chammas said. "So, the Dragons are having discussions with his management about bringing him to the club next year." The Panthers have also been linked with a move for Doueihi, following reports they have granted permission for two-time premiership winner Garner to leave one year early if he can find a new club for 2026. Doueihi would be a logical replacement for the versatile Garner, but also give them another option in the halves to play alongside champion No.7 Nathan Cleary. "I'm hearing Adam Doueihi is in talks with Penrith Panthers in a deal starting as early as next year," The Triple M Whisper said in a segment on Triple M Breakfast with Beau, Tarsh & Woodsy. It comes after Doueihi only offered a cryptic response when asked about his future last week. "Ask the big boss, Richo," Doueihi said in reference to Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson. "We'll see what happens."

Footy star Jarome Luai is busted trying to cover up his VERY unhealthy post-match drink in bizarre act at press conference

Jarome Luai might be a master of the deceptive play, but his latest attempt at subterfuge fell flat after he was busted by eagle-eyed NRL fans. The Wests Tigers playmaker sat down to front media on Sunday after his club escaped with a 21-20 win over a wasteful Gold Coast Titans outfit. It is common for players to bring a drink into the media conferences after 80 minutes of tough football, and they usually choose water or a sports drink like NRL sponsor Powerade. However, Luai had a thirst for something a little unhealthier after the win, bringing a can of Coca-Cola with him as he fronted the media scrum. In hilarious scenes, he used both hands to cover the label while he sipped from the can, in a failed attempt to disguise the brand of the beverage. 'Jarome Luai trying to not so subtly cover a Coke can before taking a sip during the press conference,' an NRL fan page posted with the video. 'Poor post game drink choice,' another posted. While it is one of the largest drink brands on the planet, few would agree that Coca-Cola is an ideal choice for athletes looking to refuel after a gruelling game. However, it can have its benefits - even for athletes like Luai. Advanced Sports Dietitian Taryn Richardson says Coca-Cola can be a useful tool for endurance athletes when used strategically. On her podcast, she explained it provides quick-access carbohydrates, caffeine and a small amount of sodium during long events. 'It can actually be a performance enhancer,' she said, before adding that it's 'terrible for your teeth' and not recommended outside of training or racing. Coke contains about 10g of sugar per 100mL, making it sweeter than most sports drinks. That high sugar content delivers fast-digesting fuel when glycogen stores are depleted. Its caffeine helps improve alertness and reduce fatigue in late stages of racing. Some athletes also use it as a palate cleanser or psychological reset after hours of taking in sweet gels and fluids. However, Richardson warned not to rely on it as the only source of fuel. 'Try it in training first,' she said, noting individual responses will vary. Luai is not the only NRL star who likes a cold can of Coca-Cola on game day. His former Penrith teammate and best friend Brian To'o is a well-known addict of the fizzy drink, albeit the No Sugar variety. The Penrith Panthers and NSW Blues star previously revealed he drank nearly 600 cans of Coke No Sugar in just one month in the offseason, claiming he felt no ill effects. 'Coke sponsored Penrith so they sent me 24 boxes of 24 packs... I got them in October and they were finished by November,' he said. Coca-Cola delivered the massive haul after hearing about his infamous pre-game meal: two breakfast burgers, a bowl of chips with aioli, a cafe latte with two sugars, and six cans of Coke Zero. To'o said the routine began at age 14 after a strong performance following a similar meal. 'I had it once when I was young and played really well, so I kept doing it,' he said. Back then, he ate outside the house to keep it secret from his parents. 'Mum and Dad found out after my second NRL game,' he laughed.
