Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has opened up about how he nearly hung up his dancing shoes before a golden opportunity presented itself on the hit BBC show. Starting his dance journey relatively late, the 58 year old admitted he was a "lunatic" who was "obsessed" with succeeding and proving his worth. He began competing with fellow professional dancer Erin Boag, and after their first encounter in 1997, they went on to clinch the 1998 and 1999 New Zealand Championships. After turning professional three years later, they continued their winning streak. However, Anton confessed he would become "upset" when they didn't win or received negative feedback, sometimes leaving him feeling "depressed". Looking back on a particularly tough time, he said: "I remember we did a competition, a big competition. We did the French Open in Paris and did really badly. I mean, so badly, in this competition and I was really depressed about the whole thing.", as reported by the Mirror, reports Wales Online. (Image:for the NTA's) "We weren't getting on very well. Everything was a struggle. We were penniless, you know, I earned £100 a week and spent £120." Discussing his struggles on Kate Thornton's White Wine Question Time podcast, Anton added: "Everything was horrendous. Danced badly, not doing very well in competitions and that was everything to me." He confessed to going through "an internal crisis" during which he contemplated quitting his career before eventually deciding to continue, saying: "[I remember] thinking to myself, 'I'm going to have to chuck this in because I'm wasting my life'." The father-of-two quickly recognised he had no other calling, so he chose to carry on and invest greater energy into his work, according to Bristol Live. As his celebrity grew, he was presented with the opportunity to become a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, which launched in 2004. Following numerous years twirling across the dance floor with different famous partners, he earned a spot on the judging panel in 2021. Together with judge Craig Revel Horwood, the duo represent the programme's most enduring personalities, sharing judging responsibilities with Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse.

BBC Gardeners' World fans in tears as star shares tragic cancer news

Gardeners' World fans were left in floods of tears after watching an emotional episode of the BBC series where professional inventor Steve broke down in tears Viewers of the latest episode of Gardeners' World were deeply moved, some to tears, by Steve's poignant story. Steve, an inventive professional who resides with his wife Pippa, shared his personal struggles with health on the programme. ‌ In the show, Steve disclosed to the audience that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was facing uncertainty about his remaining time, which could be "two months or two years, possibly." ‌ Despite this, he maintained a positive spirit, treating his diagnosis as a "new challenge". This emotional segment aired following the release of rankings for the best and worst GP surgeries across the UK, reports the Mirror. ‌ BBC viewers were quick to express their emotions regarding the heartfelt narrative. One viewer wrote on X: "Stunning cottage-type garden with Windmill a bonus and unique. Typical Cancer comes along for the bloke who still wants to finish the Windmill. Let's hope he can do it and beats the disease as he dearly loves his wife. #GardenersWorld." Another added: "Inventor man, what an inspiration #Gardenersworld." ‌ A third shared: "Well that took a sad and rather dark turn," including an emotional emoji. Similarly, a fourth commented: "Wonderful couple Windmill garden #GardenersWorld #PositiveMindset." And a fifth exclaimed: "How marvellous to have a windmill. Love it, shall we call him Windy Miller? No, call him Mr. Toad. He has the correct attitude, be positive, get up, dress up, show up and never give up #GardenersWorld." ‌ Earlier this year, Monty Don, the cherished host of Gardeners' World since 2003, spoke candidly about the future of the beloved BBC programme. At 69, there has been chatter about whether he might retire, particularly following a number of health concerns. Monty has given his fans some reassurance, stating in a Radio Times interview that the show will go on for at least another two years: "I never make plans beyond two years, but I've agreed to do another two. "If the programme is made well, I'll continue," he further mentioned. ‌ This update follows an incident where Monty had to cancel several tour dates due to an emergency hospital visit. "I had a little spate of illness in the middle of the tour. I was in hospital last week, so I've been taking it easy." Monty has often spoken about the therapeutic nature of gardening, especially since being diagnosed with seasonal affective disorder (SAD). On Kate Thornton's White Wine Question Time podcast, he shared his struggles with SAD: "I was long ago diagnosed with SAD there's no question about it, that November and December are always the worst time for me I can't bear them." Back in 2008, Monty experienced a minor stroke which led him to take a break from Gardener's World and temporarily step back from his media work.

'I work pay cheque to pay cheque,' said Dawn. 'I'm always broke. My card got declined last week. I'm like, what the f*** is happening? When will this end?' Benett/Dave Benett/WireImage Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast, she explained: 'I've never seen myself as a celebrity. Even though I'm married to Chris, who is quite a well-known actor, I don't think either of us have ever seen ourselves as celebrities. 'I guess if I was a celebrity, I'd get paid lots of money to do things that aren't necessarily my job or don't really feed what I do, but I don't. My job is writing, with the occasional little ad on Instagram to pay the rent.' Last Summer, Dawn returned to London with Chris and their two children; Art and Valentine, after eight years in Los Angeles. The author and TV presenter, 46, who wed the Irish star back in 2012, made the stark admission in a recent interview, revealing she works hard to cover bills and rent. Pic:for THR The star recalled meeting Chris just as her own career was collapsing, adding: 'Everything had fallen apart.' 'My TV career had just gone. I was so poor. I was so upset. I had zero confidence. I didn't know what I was going to do. I'd just met Chris, and he was on this trajectory up. I thought, well maybe this is just it. I'm just a girlfriend, and that's it.' Dawn's first ever red carpet was the 2011 premiere of Bridesmaids, the film that inevitably catapulted Chris to international fame. 'I work pay cheque to pay cheque,' said Dawn. 'I'm always broke. My card got declined last week. I'm like, what the f*** is happening? When will this end?' Pic:for BFI 'I always thought that if I was in this position, it would be because I'd done something to deserve it,' she reflected. 'We were living in LA and I just said to Chris, I've got to go back to London to try and claw back my career,' she said of their first time in the states. 'And we came back to London for a bit and I'd go for these meetings at TV production companies and I'd been successful. 'I had my own series on Channel 4… and they'd be like, 'What do you want to do?' and I was like, 'I want to do what I do'. But no one wanted to employ me.'
