A Windsor Police Service cruiser is seen in this image from October 2018. (Source: Windsor police) The Windsor Police Service has seized a stolen vehicle and illegal drugs and arrested two suspects, thanks to automated license plate recognition (ALPR) technology. Just after 11 p.m. on Saturday, an officer got an ALPR alert while in the 3300 block of Walker Road, notifying of a stolen plate. An investigation ensued and the WPS confirmed the 2013 pick-up truck was reported stolen in Essex. A traffic stop was conducted by officers and both the driver and passenger were arrested. Officers seized 34 grams of crystal methamphetamine, two digital scales, two knives, brass knuckles, and cash from the truck. A 39-year-old woman is now facing charges for possession of a scheduled substance for trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a prohibited weapon. A 62-year-old man is charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

Vintage tractor collection survives Amherstburg fire that caused at least $150K in damage
A fire in Amherstburg has caused between $150,000 and $200,000 in damages to a pool shed and a neighbouring garage, fire officials say. A collection of vintage tractors was untouched by the Tuesday blaze, but the workshop belonging to its owner was heavily damaged, said Deputy Fire Chief Ron Meloche, who estimated that the entire garage structure measured approximately 24 by 50 feet. "He has a number of older tractors and farm equipment that he restores and takes to shows," Meloche said of the garage's owner. "We were lucky that the fire didn't extend into that area so all that was saved. He lost his workshop, basically. … You know, he had lathes and mills and that type of … equipment." Nobody was injured or displaced from their home, Meloche said. It happened on County Road 10 between Concession Road 8 and Walker Road. Fire crews were called to the scene at around 3:45 p.m., Meloche said. "We found, upon arrival, a pool shed on fire, completely involved, and a neighbouring garage involved as well," he said. Officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze. County Road 10 was closed in the area of the fire for more than an hour, according to a post by the Windsor Police Service on X.

(Source: Unofficial On Location/Facebook) A man has been charged with careless driving — but is lucky to be alive — after accidentally launching his SUV into the Detroit River at Lakeview Park Marina. Windsor police say it happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday, when the man hit the gas instead of the brake while trying to park near the water. There were no injuries and no signs of impairment. Officers say it was simply driver error. The man was able to escape through a partially open passenger-side window before the SUV was fully submerged. 'It would be very scary to be there,' said Peter Barry, harbor master with the Windsor Port Authority. 'So he's very lucky he was able to slide out the window when he did. And he's still here to talk to us.' SUV at Lakeview Marina SUV being pulled out of the water at the at Lakeview Marina in Windsor, Ont., on Monday, July 21, 2025. (Source: Virgin Radio Windsor) Barry was called to the scene shortly after the crash — tasked with monitoring the water for possible pollutants. Another man who was there told CTV News he thought he heard something at the time — but didn't think much of it. 'I hear maybe a splash in the distance. Didn't think nothing to it,' said William Pigeon, who was on a boat docked nearby. 'Then I hear some people yelling and there's fire trucks showing up.' Once pictures of the scene hit social media, a crowd gathered to watch crews recover the sunken SUV. A crane was brought in and the vehicle was pulled out of the water shortly after 11 p.m. Virgin Radio host Jonny Parks stopped by the scene and saw the recovery effort first-hand. 'When they pulled it out and they flipped the car over, I guess whoever owned the car went in and they were looking to see what they could salvage,' he said. 'And it looks like the guy got his wallet out of there, which is at least a little bit of saving grace.' Barry says the vehicle is a total loss. 'It's definitely going to be a full write-off, being it was fully submerged for several hours,' he said. The driver was issued a ticket for careless driving — and a reminder Barry hopes others will take to heart. 'You have to stay aware,' he said. 'We had a good outcome in the fact that the man was able to walk away. Scared? Yes. Cold? Yes. But still alive. And that's the most important thing out of this accident.' Barry cautioned: 'When you're parking around water, you've got to be 100 per cent certain of your vehicle — because most times there's no coming back from this.'

Man who drove vehicle into water at Windsor marina ticketed for careless driving, police say
A man who drove his vehicle into the water at Lakeview Marina on Monday night has been issued a ticket for careless driving, Windsor police say. But he won't face any legal action related to environmental damage because there doesn't appear to be any, Windsor's harbourmaster said. "The only pollution I would say was maybe three empty water bottles that floated out of the car as it went under," Peter Berry said. The driver appeared to be backing into a parking lot on the west side of the marina, when he appeared to hit the accelerator instead of the brake and launched his car about six metres (20 feet) off the edge of the lot and into the water, pushing a planter out of the way in the process, Berry said. "He did have the wherewithal to climb out of the passenger side window, which was partially open," he said. "Otherwise he would have … gone under with the car. … The water pressure would have kept the doors closed. And, of course, the electric windows are no longer working. So good for him, he had that window open." The driver appeared to be shaken and cold, Berry said, and was unhappy about the loss of his vehicle. But he was happy to have survived. The car hit the water near the blue pilings and missed hitting any boats by about two feet, Berry added. There was also no damage to the dock, and there was no sheen on the water indicating a fluid leak of any kind. Photos and videos circulating on social media show a large crane lifting the dark-coloured SUV from the water, its front windshield smashed and large clumps of seaweed hanging from its undercarriage.
