Cinco de Mayo expected to see rainfall

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The western slope woke up to some scattered showers this morning as the next storm system arrives to western Colorado. This trend of dreary weather is expected to stick around for a couple of days to kick off the first full week of May. Throughout the day today, there is about a 70 percent chance of showers with mostly cloudy conditions and even potential for thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. Temperatures are only expected to reach the mid sixties today with this storm keeping the Grand Valley cool. Tonight, conditions for rainfall continue with chances for thunderstorms sticking around until 2 round of moderate precipitation is expected to lift across Southwest Colorado this morning and into northern portions of Utah and Colorado by late afternoon. Significant mountain snow will remain a threat over higher terrain of the San Juan through this evening. Heavier snow also moves into the high peaks of the central divide mountains by early Tuesday. Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for the higher elevations of the San Juan Mountains through 6 AM Tuesday. Expect some travel impacts over the higher mountain corridors through this time. Unsettled and cool conditions continue into the mid week before warmer and drier conditions return by late Colorado has seen over a quarter inch of snow over the past 24 hours with areas near the Animas Basin and east have seen over a half of an inch. The big winner is Columbus Basin so far where over an inch has fallen with several San Juan snow totals over 3/4 of an inch as well. The forecast appears on track with some slushy snow seen on road cams when snow rates were fairly robust, but has now melted back. The higher passes along Highway 550 south of Silverton seem to be keeping a snow pack but do expect this to improve through the morning. It looks safe to say that several peaks/basins will see a foot to 2 feet of snow in the highest elevations by this time tomorrow as the things will have wound down with this first part of the expect a rainy day ahead, Western Slope! Spring storm set to soak Colorado: First Alert Days issued for Monday and Tuesday

After a relatively calm weekend, a strong spring storm system is set to impact much of Colorado starting Monday, prompting First Alert Weather Days for both Monday and Tuesday. The storm is expected to bring widespread rain to the plains and significant snowfall to the higher elevations along the Front Range. CBS Sunday will remain relatively mild with high temperatures in the 70s across the plains and foothills. Sunday afternoon widely scattered showers are expected across the mountains with breezy conditions statewide. On Monday, widespread showers will develop across the state throughout the day, with gusty southeast winds up to 45 mph making for a blustery start to the week. Most of the precipitation across the plains will fall as rain, with high temperatures reaching the upper 50s to low 60s. However, for elevations above 9,500 feet, accumulating snow is likely. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued from Sunday evening through Tuesday morning for the San Juan Mountains. CBS While the chance for severe thunderstorms is low, there is a chance for severe storms across the southern plains, especially if there are breaks in cloud cover. CBS Tuesday will likely bring the heaviest precipitation of the storm system. As the low pressure center slowly moves eastward, a steady stream of moisture will continue to flow into Colorado, especially along the Front Range and urban corridor, where 1-2 inches of rain are possible. Due to excessive rainfall there is a concern about localized flooding. CBS Travel impacts are expected in the high country Tuesday and Wednesday mornings due to moderate to heavy snowfall. CBS By late week, an upper ridge is expected to build over the western U.S., ushering in drier conditions and warmer temperatures heading into next weekend.

Aloha snow! Winter weather advisory issued in Hawaii

HILO, Hawaii - It snowed in Hawaii on Friday. While most of the state enjoys a tropical climate year-round, Hawaii's mountaintops are no stranger to winter weather. A University of Hawaii web camera showed snow on the ground along the guardrails of one of the Mauna Kea astronomy observatories on Friday morning. A slow-moving low pressure system is making its way through Hawaii before exiting later Saturday, bringing snow to the summits on the Big Island. A Winter Weather Advisory was issued until 6:00 a.m. Saturday local time. Forecasters are calling for up to 2 inches of snow. Hawaii's mountains are mainly volcanoes, including Mauna Kea on the Big Island, whose summit is nearly 14,000 feet above sea level. Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain on the planet when measured from it's base which extends below the ocean floor. While snow is not uncommon among the tall peaks of Hawaii's Big Island, you might think by April the snow would be done. But over the past 20 years, the Big Island has averaged about one snow advisory in April. Snow advisories have been issued as late as June. That comes as Kilaueua, one of the world's most active volcanoes, erupted for the 18th time since last December earlier this week. While the system will bring snow to the mountain peaks, that moisture will be just plain rain closer to sea level. Temperatures in Hilo will make it up into the 80s this article source: Aloha snow! Arizona weather forecast: Cold front sweeps through the state

The Brief A cold front is sweeping through Arizona, bringing big changes to the state. On April 18, our high will top out in the 70s in Phoenix. Temps will warm back up this weekend in the Valley, with a high in the 80s on Easter Sunday. PHOENIX - Following a week of temperatures in the triple digits and 90s, a cool down has arrived! We're watching two systems, one from the west and another from the north. The two will combine on Friday, allowing for rain chances, cooler temperatures, and windy weather across the state. What To Expect On Friday In northern Arizona, conditions remain dry until the early evening, when scattered showers move into northwestern Arizona and skirt along the northern part of the state through the night and into Friday morning. While spotty, some rain and snow showers will move through. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place beginning Thursday evening and lasting into Friday evening for the Kaibab Plateau. The advisory is for areas above 7,000 feet where accumulating snow totals of 3-6" or more are possible. While snow will likely melt, additional snow showers are forecast to move into the High Country late Friday morning through the evening. The snow showers could at times become steady enough for limited visibility in Flagstaff and surrounding high-elevation towns. A slow commute is likely on Friday afternoon. Scattered rain showers will pass over the mid-level elevation towns such as Prescott and Payson and a few showers may eventually make their way down to the Valley on Friday evening and night. The chance for showers is 20-30% across the Valley with the best chance along the northern and eastern edges. The showers exit the region from Saturday morning to midday along the eastern border. Snow totals of 1-2" may fall in spots like Flagstaff or Pinetop, but melting will occur as it settles. Roads will be warm, and it's unlikely much, if anything, will accumulate on roadways. However, brief periods of slippery conditions may occur if snow showers turn heavy enough. What To Expect This Weekend Temperatures slip into the upper 70s for highs on Friday and Saturday in Phoenix. By Easter Sunday, the high temperature returns to near-average at 85 degrees. Morning services or egg hunts may be chilly with a forecast low temperature of 55 degrees Sunday morning! Looking Ahead to Next Week Temperatures will quickly warm back into the 90s next week. Snow and cold blasts Colorado before Easter weekend begins

Friday and Saturday are First Alert Weather Days for snow and cold moving in. The snow arrives in Colorado before the Easter weekend. A Canadian cold front and a cut-off low moving in from the west will team up overnight Thursday into Friday bringing in a dramatic change. The snow will be packed with moisture and with the warm temperatures of the last few days pavement temperatures are quite warm. As a result, there will initially be a lot of melting on hard surfaces. There will be two bursts of snow over the Front Range. Overnight Thursday into Friday morning with another big surge from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. At this point it looks like the Denver metro area may see a total of around 2 to 5 inches of snow with most accumulation on grassy surfaces. Areas in and near the foothills will see 4 to 10 inches and some mountain areas may wind up with 6 to 15 inches of snowfall from Thursday night through Saturday morning. There are Winter Weather Advisories in place for the northern mountains with Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings for the Southern mountains. Snow will be good for Easter holiday skiers and boarders this weekend. The snow will be heavy, wet and slushy. Roads will be wet to icy Friday morning and worse in the afternoon. Heavy snow could break branches in and near the foothills. Shake the trees to alleviate the weight of the snow and drive slow.
