Couple Adopts First Kitten—Can't Cope With How Huge He Becomes: 'Panther'

For TikTok user Joanna and her husband, their first feline addition shattered all their expectations. What they thought was a standard kitten grew into a strikingly large, majestic cat now known as their "house panther"—and captivated a wide audience from a TikTok video. Joanna, 27, spoke to Newsweek about how they've adjusted to their kitty's size, and how deep their bond has grown since adopting. "When you think you adopted a it turns out you adopted a panther," Joanna captioned the video. "Adopted our first cat, was not expecting him to be the biggest cat we've ever seen! Having always been drawn to the majestic appearance of black cats, her path to cat parenthood was somewhat unexpected. Already having a goldendoodle named Teddy, they considered adopting a kitten after realizing Teddy was overwhelmed by other dogs. Seeing a photo of "kitten Witcher with his cute face and prominently big ears," Joanna's heart was set. Witcher, originally named Toast by his foster parents, quickly lived up to his new namesake. Joanna and her husband named him Witcher, after Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher, recognizing his early traits of "stoicism, loyalty, independence, compassion and natural heroism," Joanna said. From the moment he arrived, Witcher's bravery was evident. Despite being dwarfed by Teddy, Witcher immediately began "setting boundaries." And the kitten didn't just bring vibrant energy; he also helped Teddy come out of his shell. Their bond blossomed into a "true brotherly bond," filled with cuddles and playful bouts around the house. The couple initially worried about the size difference during their play, constantly intervening. However, Witcher would hold his ground, and many times, even overtake Teddy. It wasn't long before they noticed the cat's remarkable growth. "Soon, we noticed his tail begun to match the size of his big ears," Joanna said. "Then his body begun stretching longer and longer. Before we knew it, when our friends would come over, they begun commenting 'wow, he is a long boy' or, 'wow he's only a few months old?' Even when I would send update photos to his foster parents, they were blown away by his size too." Joanna noted the significant change as their goldendoodle went from towering over Witcher, to Witcher becoming a "fair opponent" in their play. 'The Same Amount of Love' Beyond his impressive size, Witcher's core personality traits have remained. "My favorite his sense of bravery," Joanna shared, adding that he faces new people, pets, harness training and even long car drives with unwavering courage. Joanna, who once wasn't sure how she'd feel as a cat parent, now emphasizes that "cats and dogs display the same amount of love towards their fur parents—just in different ways." She urges those with strong opinions against cats to consider that they are animals that simply appreciate consistency and trust. For her, Witcher's affectionate moments, like cuddling and endless purrs, are "a very active choice he is making." She hopes that by showcasing Witcher's quirks, she can "bring a spotlight to black cats at large," advocating for their adoption given historical biases and misconceptions. She encourages anyone considering a loyal and loving companion to think about adopting a black cat, just like her magnificent "house panther."

SINGAPORE – The Witcher In Concert is coming to Singapore on Nov 29 and 30 at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. The immersive live concert features music from video game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which marks its 10th anniversary in 2025. The concert has travelled to North America and Europe and makes its way to Asia with Singapore as the first stop. Tickets start at $92 and are available from Marina Bay Sands, Sistic and Klook. The concert is a celebration of the dark fantasy game's music and storytelling. It brings to life the tale of Geralt of Rivia, a monster slayer known as a Witcher, as he sets out on a quest to look for his adopted daughter Ciri. The show runs for two hours, inclusive of a 20-minute intermission. It features an ensemble orchestra, with tracks arranged by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt co-composer Marcin Przybylowicz. Polish folk metal band Percival Schuttenbach, co-composers of the game's soundtrack and contributors to several songs, will perform alongside the orchestra. The Witcher In Concert is presented by live entertainment company Base Entertainment Asia. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, James said, 'We were dealing with trying to figure out if we could take the job at DC Studios, and we're talking to David Zaslav and all the legal people there, and figuring out what our deals would be. 'And the day our deal closed, all of a sudden they were announcing that Henry was back. I'm like, what is going on? Like, we know what the plan is, the plan was to come in and do Superman. That was really unfortunate, I'm like, this poor guy." The new DC bosses were impressed with how Henry handled the news. James continued, 'And so Peterand I [knew] the right thing to do is to sit down with [Cavill] and talk to him. And we sat down, we talked to him, he was an absolute gentleman, a great guy about it. He said, 'The only thing I ask is that I'm able to reveal it myself as opposed to it coming from you guys.' It was really unfair to him and was a total bummer." James explained there were external influences who 'wanted to take on what they wanted to do at DC and were trying to force their way and it just was never a part of the equation." The filmmaker – who cast David Corenswet in the title role of his Superman movie – was asked if it would be 'too confusing" to recast Henry in a different DC Universe role, and he admitted he is keen to work with the Witcher star. He said, 'No, as another character? Absolutely not. I talked to him about it on that day. I would love to put Henry in something." James Gunn admits Henry Cavill's Superman firing was 'terrible'
James Gunn has opened up on the 'really unfair' way Henry Cavill was fired from DC and his role as Superman. The Witcher star first appeared as the caped superhero in 2013's Man of Steel before starring as Superman in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also appeared in Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2021 and made a cameo appearance in 2022's Black Adam. Cavill announced in 2022 he would be returning to the role in Gunn's reimagining of the franchise, only to walk back on his comments months later when he was let go by DC. Superman, released earlier this month, stars Pearl actor David Corenswet in the titular role instead. Recalling the incident, Gunn condemned DC Studios for their handling of Cavill's role in the film. 'It's terrible – believe it or not, the day we were dealing with trying to figure out if we could take the job at DC Studios, the day the deal closed, all of a sudden, they were announcing that Henry was back,' he told the Happy Sad Confused podcast. 'I was like, 'What is going on? We know what the plan is. The plan was to come in and do Superman. It was really unfair to him and a total bummer.' 'There was a vacuum at the time and a lot of people had a take on what they wanted to do at DC and they were trying to force their way and it was just never part of the equation.' He went on to say the situation was 'really unfortunate' and he felt for the 'poor guy', but that Cavill took the news like an 'absolute gentleman.' 'He said, 'The only thing I ask is that I'm able to reveal it myself as opposed to coming from you guys.' And I'm like, 'That's a class act',' he continued. Gunn also said he would love to have Cavill in a future DC film, revealing he 'talked to him about it on that day.' 'After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn't the easiest, but that's life. 'The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.' Gunn's Superman was released on July 11 and currently holds an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with several glowing reviews. It sees Corenswet's Superman drawn into conflict and the public questioning his actions, giving tech billionaire Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) the opportunity to rid the world of Superman for good. On taking on the role and being propelled from a relative unknown actor to one of the world's most recognisable superheroes, Corenswet opened up to Metro about how he handled the news. 'No, I had the opportunity to tell about six or seven people who I was close to and just kind of relished in this one hour where I had a big secret that nobody else knew about,' he continued. 'It's a rare moment in life, so I tried to be present with it and not be too overwhelmed. 'I got to tell my wife and a couple of family members and then just sat in a chair and waited for the news to break.' Thankfully, once David's not-so-secret identity had been exposed, he could rely on other actors who've slipped into Superman's red Speedos for advice. 'I was lucky enough to exchange letters with Tyler Hoechlin and Henry Cavill, two fellas who have played Superman before me,' he explained. Despite initial backlash over Cavill being replaced, Corenswet appears to have won fans over with his appearance in Gunn's Superman.
