Both RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg seek to install Jacob Neestrup as next head coach.
icker reports that two Bundesliga clubs with vacant head coaching positions are competing for the same man. FC Copenhagen head-coach Jacob Neestrup lies in the sights of both RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg. Both sides are seeking replacements following the respective sackings of Marco Rose (RB) and Ralph Hasenhüttl (VfL). Neestrup was once considered the favorite for the Wolfsburg job due to his association with fellow Dane and former Copenhagen managing director Peter Christiansen. Kicker nevertheless reports that former Wolfsburg sporting CEO Marcel Schäfer – who moved to Leipzig last spring – held talks with Neestrup while he was still working at Wolfsburg. Advertisement It was still Christiansen who promoted Neestrup to his head coaching role at FC Copenhagen. Ostensibly, Neestrup would be more inclined to join Christiansen in the Autostadt. Kicker notes that current FC St. Pauli head coach Alexander Blessin's links with the Wolfsburg job might be holding off an offer for Neestrup. As pertains to Leipzig, the German Red Bulls are also reported to be interested in recently sacked Werder Bremen head coach Ole Werner. Neestrup could be the 'second-choice' candidate for both clubs. Volkswagen ‘open' for a second generation Tiguan R
If approved, the choice of powertrain could remain a conventional combustion option, or even a plug-in hybrid similar to the new Toyota RAV4 GR Sport. Original R debuted in South Africa in 2022 as the most powerful and fastest Tiguan ever made. Image: Volkswagen Reportedly not yet under consideration for market development, Volkswagen has let slip that it hasn't ruled-out the possibility of introducing a second generation Tiguan R before the end of the decade either. Possibility is there Limited to the now discontinued second generation Tiguan, the R made its unveiling five years ago as part of the facelift model's line-up, with the same 235kW/420Nm outputs from its 2.0 TSI engine as the Golf 8 R. ALSO READ: WATCH: Call the VW Tiguan R a 'mommy wagon' at your own peril The first Tiguan to nearly breach the R1-million mark with a price of R999 900 at the time of its South African market launch in 2022, the most powerful Tiguan ever made could, allegedly, get a further power boost if approved for production. 'I would never say no. The Tiguan [R] was very successful in Europe and Australia… we'll see', R division boss, Martinez Diaz, told Australia's last week. Ideal powertrain fit? Despite the R division's well publicised switch towards complete electrification by 2030, the selected powertrain, if production gets the greenlight, could be a plug-in hybrid similar to the one that powers the Tiguan eHybrid. In this setup, Wolfsburg's long serving 1.4 TSI comes paired to a 19.7-kWh battery pack powering an 85 kW electric for a total of 150kW/300Nm or 200kW/400Nm in its most powerful state of tune. Depicted R-Line currently heads the new third generation Tiguan range. Image: Volkswagen A set-up that will be similar to the Tiguan's long-time rival, the Toyota RAV4, whose new GR Sport derivate combines a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 22.7-kWh battery for a total of 235 kW, the Tiguan R could also remain combustion motivated only with the same 245kW/420Nm outputs as the Golf 8.5 R. As its stands, the flagship non-electrically assisted Tiguan model remains the TSI 265, whose 2.0 TSI, as its name states, produces 265 pferdestarke (PS) or 195kW/400Nm. Locally, the same engine develops 140kW/350Nm in the range-topping 2.0 TSI R-Line 4Motion DSG due in part to South Africa's poor fuel quality compared to Europe. Watch this space For the moment, the Tiguan R remains a pipe dream, however, with an introduction not wiped-off off table, don't be surprised if spy images do emerge over the next 12 to 18 months of it undergoing testing. Rangers placed on Vaclav Cerny red alert over Wolfsburg 'fire sale' as Cyriel Dessers makes transfer stance clear
Cerny enjoyed a superb campaign at Ibrox despite his team's struggles - registering 18 goals and nine assists in 52 matches Rangers' chances of signing Vaclav Cerny on a permanent basis have been boosted after parent club Wolfsburg's financial woes were revealed. The Czech Republic international caught the eye in his season-long loan spell at Ibrox, scoring 18 goals and nine assists in 52 matches for a Gers team that finished the campaign without a trophy. The 27-year-old is set to return to Germany later this summer for pre-season but reports in Turkey claim that Trabzonspor are preparing a £9million bid for the winger. However, Wolfsburg's latest accounts could suggest that the Bundesliga side will be forced to sell players on the cheap this summer. Die Wolfe had a disappointing season in 2025/26, finishing in 11th place - seven points adrift of the top half. Former Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl took up the reins last summer but was sacked with two weeks of the campaign still remaining while the departures of club legend and managing director Marcel Schafer also caused further upheavel. The Volkswagen Arena side banked £40million from the sale of Micky van der Ven to Tottenham in 2023 but have since splashed out huge sums on the likes of Lovro Majer, Joakim Maele and Tiago Tomas. Cerny arrived in Germany from FC Twente in the summer of 2023 for around £8million and has scored five times in 25 matches for Wolfsburg. As reported by Braunschweiger-Zeitung, the German Football League (DFL) have now published the financial figures of each club in the top-flight from the 2023/24 season - and it doesn't make good reading for Wolfsburg. The accounts show that the 2009 Bundesliga winners have made a loss of just over €15 million (£12.63million), a staggering drop from the €118,000 (£99, 362) profit published in the previous calendar year. Wolfsburg's new managing director Michael Meeske added: "Despite higher revenue from marketing, a deficit was incurred. The balance sheet was also impacted by the transfer activities." Elsewhere, Gers frontman Cyriel Dessers insists he is happy at Ibrox and has shut down talk of a summer exit. The Nigeria international - who netted 29 goals in 55 matches last season - has been linked with a move to Greek Super League duo Olympiakos and AEK Athens. However the 30-year-old is adamant he won't be going anywhere and is looking forward to a break before reporting back to Auchenhowie for pre-season on June 30. Speaking to SportsBoom, he said: "I still have two years left on my contract with Rangers. It's a fantastic club, and I'm happy there. "When you score that number of goals, it's normal for other teams to show interest. I've seen the links with Olympiacos, but I don't know anything specific about that. "These kinds of rumours are normal, but for now, I'm staying focused and looking forward to enjoying my holiday in a few weeks."

'Kevin transcends this team'
Manchester City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak believes Kevin De Bruyne will go down as their greatest ever in his annual in-house interview, he said: "What Kevin has given to this club, in my view, he is the greatest player to play for this club. I think his accomplishments speak for themselves. The number of Premier Leagues, the Champions League, FA Cups, Community Shields, Carabao Cups. "It's an unbelievable tally, the highest of any player that's ever played for this club. His personal achievements, twice PFA Player of the Year. He's been a captain. He's been a leader. He's been a teammate. He's been everything you'd hope from your most important player. "His influence on everyone, from the academy to the communities of fans, not just this club but football all over the world, is unquestionable. So, Kevin, he really transcends this team and I'm so proud of what he's accomplished. "It's one of the best decisions we ever took. The day we took the decision to invest in Kevin and bring him from Wolfsburg. I remember some people thought we overpaid. Yes, yes, it's one of the best memes out there, huh?."
