Michigan football RB Justice Haynes lands on 2025 Maxwell Award watch list
When people think of the best college football player in the country, often, that's associated with the Heisman Trophy. But that's just one group's choice, as there is another who gives a trophy to the player deemed to be the best of the best. And in the 2025 preseason, one Wolverine is someone its committee is keeping an eye on. A former five-star, running back Justice Haynes languished during his two years at Alabama, sitting behind Jase McLellan and Jam Miller -- both of whom were often second options behind quarterback Jalen Milroe. He moved to greener pastures in Ann Arbor, where he's more likely to get significant carries, especially in the Wolverines' run-heavy scheme. Michigan revealed on Monday that Haynes is on the Maxwell Award watch list in the 2025 preseason, as one of 80 players that the committee is keeping tabs on. Though there is sometimes agreement between Heisman voters and the Maxwell committee, not always. Last year, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty won the award, and Washington quarterback Michael Penix the year before that. Neither were Heisman winners, but before Penix, both Bryce Young and Caleb Williams (in their Heisman seasons) did win the Maxwell Award. Even before them, there were some who won both, but it wasn't a foregone conclusion. Haynes might have some trouble in fully capturing the Maxwell committee's attention as he will be sharing the backfield with Jordan Marshall, who showed out against the Crimson Tide in the ReliaQuest Bowl. But still, the run game is likely to be a focal point for the Wolverine offense, especially as there are strong indications that freshman Bryce Underwood will be getting his feet wet sooner than later. Dafne Keen loves playing 'stubborn' and 'independent' Laura Kinney
Dafne Keen relished reprising the role of Laura Kinney for Deadpool and Wolverine. The 20-year-old actress first played the character in 2017's Logan, and Dafne has revealed that she enjoyed the experience of reprising the role for the 2024 blockbuster, which also starred Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Dafne explained: "What was so special to me about putting her in a group was that I think the Wolverine character is an archetype, and therefore Laura, as an extension of that, is a lone wolf, and I think putting her in a group shows that they do work in a team. "There was something so lovely about also getting Logan and Laura back. It was really fun to play with other people, and I think she works really well in a team, weirdly, even though she is such a stubborn, independent creature." Dafne also revealed that she'd love for Sophie Nelisse, her co-star in Whistle, the upcoming horror film, to join her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Asked which role Sophie would be best suited to, Dafne replied: "There are so many. I feel like you'd be a good Mystique. I feel like she'd be a good Mystique. You'd be shape-shifting and back-flipping." Dafne also thinks her co-star would be a perfect candidate to play the part of Jean Grey. The actress said: "She's so powerful and cool. And she's hot, and she has fabulous red hair." Meanwhile, Dafne has revealed that she would jump at any opportunity to reprise the role of Laura. The actress was amazed by the fan reaction to her appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine, and she relished the film's shoot, describing it as "some of the most fun [she's] ever had on camera". Asked what she wants to do next in her career, Dafne told ScreenRant: "Honestly, anything that brings me back to playing her, I would take. I think she's some of the most fun I've ever had on camera. And, honestly, it's so special to me that the people love her as much as I did." Dafne has actually developed a new appreciation for her on-screen character and her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years. The actress explained: "I think I did it when I was so young [that] I didn't realise how much of an impact it had. Then, after last year I've really kind of experienced how much impact she had in a way. I think that's really special and it's always really exciting to me. "Even when people are speculating completely incorrect things about my future in the MCU, I'm always very excited that people are even thinking of me in that capacity."

Former Michigan S Josh Metellus signs $36M extension with Vikings, cementing NFL success
At the time of his commitment, safety Josh Metellus was considered by many to be a take due to Michigan football coveting his high school teammate, linebacker Devin Bush. Yet, the former Miami (Fla.) Charles Flanagan three-star didn't just come along in his own right, he continues to ascend -- well beyond his years in Ann Arbor. It was surprising when Metellus earned a starting role at the end of his freshman year, playing in the Orange Bowl in place of Jabrill Peppers at VIPER. But he followed that up by earning a starting role at safety, and by the time he left college following the 2019 season, he was a sixth-round NFL draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings. Since then, he's ascended from practice squad to special teams to reserve to team captain to veritable NFL star. And he's getting paid as a result. Multiple reports came to light on Saturday indicating that Metellus and the Vikings have agreed to a three-year, $36 million extension that could be worth up to $42 million. This will be Metellus' sixth year in the league, and he's proven to have staying power that most of his 2016 class teammates haven't had at the next level. This is a significant raise for the former Wolverine, as his last extension was worth just $8 million.
