Fences built around Oasis's Manchester gig as ticketless fans given warning

'Necessary measures' have been implemented to prevent ticketless fans from accessing Oasis's Manchester show from afar at Heaton Park. The reunited Britpop rockers had a euphoric homecoming over the weekend, with hundreds of fans who didn't manage to get their hands on a ticket flocking to the renamed 'Gallagher Hill' to watch the stage from a high vanatge point. The Wonderwall hitmakers – Liam and Noel – are set to return to Manchester tomorrow, July 16, but the council has confirmed no stragglers will be able to catch the show – and urged them not to try. On Tuesday, steel fencing was erected 'around a large area of the hill within the cattle field in the main park' where 300 young whips have recently been planted in order to develop a new woodland area for the park. These measures also include protection for the livestock in the field which includes nursing cows and a bull. The dual purpose of the fence protects the wildlife and wards off any of those attempting to still come along. Meanwhile, the arena itself is double-walled with solid high security fencing and surrounded by 2000 security personnel, with no long-distance visibility of the arena. Councillor John Hacking, Executive Member for Employment, Skills and Leisure, Manchester City Council, said their 'hand had been forced' to prioritise public safety and 'minimise' enivronmental impact. He continued: 'Our advice to music fans who don't have tickets for the concerts is to head into the city centre instead. 'The whole city is going all out to celebrate and help everyone have a good time. We've got some fantastic things going on with a real party atmosphere for everyone to enjoy whether they've got tickets for the Oasis gigs or not.' The Heaton Park Instagram account reiterated this plea, telling its followers to 'not travel for the concert if you do not have a ticket for the event.' This means the final three shows – on Wednesday, Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20 – will not have a repeat of last week's shenanigans. Fans have shared their devastation at the development with one Instagram commenter, gemmamono, writing it was 'utterly miserable'. 'That's absolutely ridiculous,' user steph_hampson echoed. Loop1501 called it a 'terrible move' and coynemorgan said to 'let people enjoy it'. Others praised the decision, however, with goodfood_mcr telling them 'well done' and another agreeing it made sense as a 'safety thing'. This comes after arrests were made following some fans trying to scale the fences surrounding the gig, with 15 arrested in total over the first two nights. In a statement, Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle said: 'We have been planning for these events for several months, working with partners and the organisers to make sure everyone can enjoy the concerts safely. More Trending 'To that end, I'm pleased to say that the first two Oasis homecoming events have been a success. 'What has been especially pleasing is how more than 100,000 people have enjoyed these iconic events safely and without trouble. We will have a highly visible presence in and around Heaton Park, and across the city, to ensure the next three events continue to pass safely.' Got a story? Manchester gives hometown heroes Oasis rapturous reception

Bathed in sunshine and feel-good vibes, 80,000 fans gave Oasis a hero's welcome on Friday as Manchester's favorite sons returned for their first hometown gig in 16 years. Fans young and old flocked to see the Gallagher brothers rattle through their back catalogue, singing along to every word of epic hits such as 'Wonderwall', 'Don't Look Back in Anger' and 'Supersonic'. Around 500 fans were already lined up three hours before doors opened for the first of five sold-out gigs at Heaton Park, four miles (six kilometers) north of the northern English city. Some were fortunate enough to be shaded by trees, while others fanned themselves to keep cool in the 30-degree Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) heat. Fifteen places from the front was Lisa, a 23-year-old who had travelled from Saint-Etienne in France with a group of friends. 'It was like the biggest opportunity of our lives, we never thought we could ever see them live,' she said, having lined up for six hours. The city has been bracing for 'Oasis Day' ever since the Gallagher brothers, singer Liam and guitarist Noel, announced last year they had buried the hatchet and were reforming the band. On hearing the reunion news, 17-year-old student Jack Johnson said 'we were phoning each other going, 'oh, my God, oh my God, what's happening'?' 'We're still in awe that we're here,' he added. Most kept cool with water and ice creams, although others were keen to get the party started. 'I'm rehydrating with a bit of gin, a bit of (beverage) and a little bit of lemonade,' said Sarah Fisher, 45, from Loughborough in central England. 'As a ginger, the heat is a little bit too much, but I've got my lotion on, got my bucket hat,' she joked. Fisher compared the atmosphere to the band's legendary 1996 gig at Maine Road in Manchester, which she attended as a teenager. People taking part a walking music tour pose in front of a mural of British rock band Oasis, in Manchester. 'Freaking out' Around 400,000 people are expected to attend the Manchester gigs in total. Among them were electrician Alan Clarke, 50, and Paul Smith, 41, who bonded in the queue. 'We're new best friends,' said Clarke, who was wearing an Oasis T-shirt from a gig he attended in 1996. 'It still fits me, even though I'm older and fatter,' he said. It was not just at the venue where excitement was spilling over, as fans took over Manchester city center 24 hours before the show. 'All the people are freaking out,' said Andre Meyer, who had flown in from Hamburg for the gig. 'The city is full of fans, so many great vibes,' he added, his long beard obscuring an expletive on his Liam Gallagher T-shirt. People pose for photographs with an art installation entitled 'Cathedral of Sound' by Lazerian, in Manchester, northern England. 'I'm gonna cry' There was nowhere to hide from the Gallagher brothers, whose faces glowered down from banners on lamp-posts and a giant mural in the city's Northern Quarter. Nico, 28, who travelled from Los Angeles for the gig, was one of those posing in front of the artwork. He did not know what to expect from the gig, other than predicting: 'I'm going to cry.' He admitted to being in tears after hearing footage from the opening Cardiff gig last week, adding: 'I was like, oh my God... It sounds amazing.' But for hometown teenager Jonah Shaw, singer with a band called Unit 17, the local connection was 'totally it'. 'I've come out the womb listening to Oasis, I'm just so excited,' he said. Shaw, from near Burnage, where the Gallaghers grew up, was brought up with tales of legendary Oasis gigs from his father Gary, who was also in line, and hopes he can one day pass on the torch. 'I'm hoping it'll be the 60-year reunion in about 30 years' time and I'll take my kids, Noel and Liam,' he laughed.—AFP A person walks past an Oasis themed bus in Manchester.

More info Oasis ' iconic hit Don't Look Back in Anger has been named the band's most played song on UK radio and TV in the 21st century, according to music licensing company, Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL). It comes as Edinburgh gears up to welcome the band to the city next month as a part of their highly anticipated reunion tour, which kicked off in Cardiff last week- marking their first performance together in almost 16 years, reports the Daily Record. The licensing company compiled a list of the top 10 most played songs from the band in the past 25 years. PPL, which licenses the use of recorded music across UK radio, TV and public venues, compiled the list using two decades' worth of airplay data. The result is a definitive chart of Oasis' most broadcasted songs since 2000. Coming in second is the stellar hit Wonderwall, followed by She's Electric in third place. Roll With It and Little By Little round out the top five. Also making the top 10 are The Importance of Being Idle, Whatever, Some Might Say, Live Forever and Champagne Supernova, which closes out the list. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox Remarkably, six of the top 10 songs come from the band's legendary 1995 album (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, which remains the UK's fifth best selling album of all time, according to the Official Charts Company. The PPL data also found that Oasis have built up more than seven years of cumulative airplay on UK radio and TV stations since 2000, with their songs being played, on average, 120 times per day across the country. Peter Leathem, chief executive of PPL, praised the band's cultural significance, saying: "Oasis are one of the most iconic, era-defining bands we have ever seen." "They dominated the 1990s and 2000s, and for many, they personified those decades, but their timeless songs continue to resonate with audiences even long after their release," he continued. He added: "With their reunion tour underway, this chart provides the perfect opportunity to look back in admiration at the enduring impact of their music throughout this century, and to celebrate one of the greatest British bands of all time." The band performed together at Cardiff's Principality Stadium last weekend for the first time since their dramatic split in 2009, which was prompted by a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in France. Noel and Liam Gallagher will continue their tour heading to their own city - Manchester - for five sold-out nights at Heaton Park. However their UK and Ireland tour has received some backlash from fans who were outraged after standard ticket prices jumped from £148 to £355. In response, the UK Government and the Competition and Markets Authority pledged to review the issue. The band's world tour, Oasis Live '25, will see the band perform at Manchester's Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin's Croke Park throughout July, August and September before heading to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America.

Orlando Bloom parties night away at Oasis gig with Liam Gallagher's kids after Katy Perry split

Orlando Bloom attended the Oasis gig on Saturday evening at Heaton Park and appeared to be having the time of his life just weeks after his split from Katy Perry Orlando Bloom was spotted beaming at the Oasis gig in Manchester on Saturday, just weeks after confirming his split from long term fiancée Katy Perry. The 48-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star shared several videos to his Instagram profile which showed him singing and dancing along to the Gallagher brothers biggest hits. ‌ Bloom attended the show in the VIP section alongside celebrity friends and family members of the performers, including Liam Gallagher's sons, Lennon, 25, and Gene, 24. The actor appeared to be all smiles throughout the night, showing no signs of stress despite his recent break up with Katy, who he been with since 2016. ‌ Before the show kicked off, Bloom posted a video captioned: 'Road to Oasis. Could not be more f'in excited.' In another clip, he added: 'It's gonna be karaoke all night,' as he smiled at the camera. He later cautioned his Instagram followers about the content of his stories, stating: 'If you don't like @oasis swipe on – if you wanna see me run through some of my favourite karaoke numbers for laughs here you are lol.' Bloom videoed himself singing along to several iconic Oasis tracks, including Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova, as well as Live Forever, Take Me Away, and Half the World Away. After the concert, he reflected on the experience: 'My 16-year-old self who was at Knebworth just let it all hang out in Manchester, what a night.' ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The actor's public outing in Manchester comes shortly after he and the California Gurls singer announced the end of their nine-year relationship. Katy and Orlando got engaged six years ago and share daughter Daisy Dove together, who they welcomed in 2020. ‌ They released a joint statement confirming the split, which read: 'Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting. "They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is, and always will be, raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.' ‌ A source close to the couple previously claimed that the breakup was amicable. The insider said: 'Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable. Katy is, of course, upset but is relieved not to have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life." ‌ Hints of emotional strain had surfaced on Bloom's Instagram earlier this month. On July 2, he shared a quote from Carl Jung: 'Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.' He also posted a telling Buddha quote days before: 'Each day is a new beginning. What we do today is what matters most.' Their shock split comes after Katy recently announced her departure from American Idol after seven seasons, reportedly to focus on new music.
