Late Bob Uecker Would Cherish This Relentless Milwaukee Brewers' Team
Legendary Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker would be bursting with excitement. The Brewers are dedicating their 2025 Major League Baseball season to the late Bob Uecker, who passed away in January. Uecker would enjoy every single moment of this momentous Brewers season. The Brewers are relentless. They are fearless. They never give up. They are called 'the Woodpeckers' because they keep pecking away at the opposition. Manager Pat Murphy says the Brewers have 'found their edge.' At the start of play August 12, the Brewers have a Major League Baseball best 74 wins. The Brewers have won ten consecutive games. The Brewers are well ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division. The Brewers are earning their success with a 'lunch pail' Brew Crew of very good baseball players. They come to the park hunting a win. The Brewers run their opponents off the field. They steal bases, and collect extra bases with savvy base running. The Brewers are reflecting the passion and almost unquenchable desire to win from Murphy. Murphy was the National League Manager of the Year in 2024, when the Brewers won 93 games, but lost to the New York Mets in the 2024 National League Wild Card. The Brewers determined to go well beyond the Wild Card, with their goal set on a World Series Championship. Where Are The Stars? There is no Shohei Ohtani on the Brewers. No Aaron Judge. No superstars. As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel stated in July, 'The Milwaukee Brewers are among the better-and hotter teams in baseball by record, yet they have no clear-cut star.' Well, that doesn't phase the Brewers. Or their fans. Perhaps the Brewers next star will be flame throwing pitcher, All Star Jacob Misiorowski, who is currently injured. For now, the Brewers are a collection of fine major league baseball players who are the definition of a team being the 'sum of its parts.' It seems the Brewers find a new way to win, and/or a new guy to lead the way every game. Brewers Lineup: lists this Brewers lineup, including recent hitting statistics: Sal Frelick-RF (.291, eight homers, 43 RBIs, 17 stolen bases) Isaac Collins-LF (.297, eight homers, 40 RBIs, 13 stolen bases) William Contreras-C (.257, 12 homers, 53 RBIs) Christian Yelich-DH (..259, 22 homers, 75 RBIs, 15 stolen bases) Andrew Vaughn-1B (.243, seven homers, 48 RBIs) Blake Perkins-CF (.262, three homers, nine RBIs) Brice Turang-2B (.278, 11 homers, 55 RBIs,21 stolen bases) Caleb Durbin-3B (.256, five homers, 38 RBIs, 10 stolen bases) Joey Ortiz-SS (.223, seven homers, 40 RBIs, 11 stolen bases) The most recognized player is Christian Yelich, who at 33, is the closest player in the lineup to being a household name. Brewers fans are well aware of Isaac Collins, Andrew Vaughn, Blake Perkins, and Joey Ortiz. But only true baseball fans can expound on the careers of any of those four. Rhys Hoskins, Jake Bauers, Jackson Chourio, and Garrett Mitchell are more familiar names. But each is currently on the MLB Injured List, and the Brewers are winning, even in their absence. Chourio may be a star in the making, and the four players noted above would enhance the depth of the club. The solid bench includes: C Danny Jansen INF-Andruw Monasterio INF-Anthony Seigler OF- Brandon Lockridge Brewers Starting Rotation: The Brewers rotation is a collection of pitchers probably performing above expectations. Each has been very effective in helping the team to their stellar record. The rotation includes: All Star Freddy Peralta-RHP, 12-8, 3.03 ERA, 1.14 WHIP Brandon Woodruff-RHP, 4-0, 2.29 ERA, 0.65 WHIP Tobias Myers-RHP- 1-1, 1.67 ERA, 4.78 WHIP Quinn Priester-RHP- 11-2, 3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP Jose Quintana-LHP- 9-4, 3.57 ERA, 1.34 WHIP Priester and Quintana arrived this year. The bullpen has been outstanding. They have picked up their starters, and closed out games. The bullpen: All Star Trevor Megill-RHP (closer) 28 saves, 2.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP Abner Uribe-RHP- 31 holds,1.92 ERA, 1.08 WHIP Shelby Miller RHP Jared Koenig-LHP- 22 holds, 3.45 ERA, 1.30 WHIP Nick Mears-RHP-13 holds, 2.68 ERA, 0.92 WHIP Aaron Ashby-LHP Grant Anderson-RHP DL Hall-LHP Miller arrived at the trade deadline from Arizona. Conclusions: The Brewers are going 'all in' to honor beloved broadcaster, Bob Uecker. The team never gives up. Bernie Brewer is flying down his slide. With a balanced attack of good hitting, good pitching, solid defense, and aggressive team speed, the Brewers are playing the type of baseball reflected by the commitment and drive of manager Pat Murphy. The Cubs are trying to catch them. It will tough to stop, or slow down the collection of good baseball players wearing the uniform of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Care home residents enjoy picnics and outdoor activities
Care home residents enjoyed a day of picnics and outdoor activities. The events, inspired by International Picnic Day, were hosted by seven Colten Care homes in Hampshire and Dorset. The homes, including Belmore Lodge in Lymington, Woodpeckers in Brockenhurst, Fernhill in Longham, Whitecliffe House in Blandford, Canford Chase and The Aldbury in Poole, and Abbey View in Sherborne transformed their gardens, courtyards, and summer houses into picnic spots. Residents and care home staff prepared a range of classic picnic food, including quiches, sausage rolls, dips, cheese and cucumber sandwiches, and salads. Anne Hammond, a resident at Canford Chase, said: "It reminded me of being a Girl Guide and making picnics at camp." Residents were given the chance to walk down memory lane as they shared stories of past picnics. Tony Husband from The Aldbury care home said: "The food was nice and we, our families, and the companions all did very well by the support of the team. Similarly, at Fernhill, a dementia care home, the garden was transformed with gingham-checked fabrics, evoking a '1950s retro feel.' Here, the residents took an additional trip to Hamworthy Park on the Poole seafront for another picnic lunch. Fernhill companionship team leader, Cara Duroe, said: "The experience of sharing food outdoors brought back many memories for our residents of when picnics were a cherished family tradition." Among the other activities, residents enjoyed live music performances. Pianist Kevin Pritchard, a member of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, entertained the residents at Woodpeckers care home. The initiative was praised by several residents, who expressed their delight and eagerness for future events. Terry Pattison, another resident at The Aldbury, said: "Good starter for the season. Let's have another picnic soon."
