IPL 2025 Final: Anushka Sharma dejected as Virat Kohli dismissed after slow 43
Anushka Sharma was left dejected as Virat Kohli was dismissed for 43 runs off 35 balls in the IPL 2025 final against Punjab Kings. Kohli struggled during his knock in Ahmedabad in the summit clash on Tuesday as the RCB star struggled to get his innings going. Kohli was left to watch on as Phil Salt fell early after a quick blitz and he was joined by Mayank Agarwal in the middle. It felt like Kohli was given the anchor role during the innings, much like how he did in the T20 World Cup 2024 final last year. However, the RCB star only got 13 runs off 10 deliveries in the powerplay overs, with just one boundary coming in at that time. The pressure kept building on RCB batters at the other end, which saw both Mayank and Rajat Patidar get dismissed quickly. advertisementIPL 2025 Final Updates Kohli was unable to put his foot on the pedal and get going as the run-rate started to fall. After the second timeout, Liam Livingstone and Kohli showed some signs of intent with a few boundaries but Punjab's plan to bowl short at the RCB star kept him under check. He was ultimately dismissed by a short ball from Azmatullah Omarzai as the star batter hit the ball up in the air and the PBKS bowler completed the catch with ease. After the dismissal, a disappointed Anushka's image went viral on social media. But Punjab bounced back with quick wickets as RCB's innings came to a screeching halt. RCB posted 190 in the end for the loss of nine wickets. Tune InTrending Reel IN THIS STORY#IPL 2025

Virat Kohli should've captained India in England Test series: Ravi Shastri
Former India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri feels star India batter Virat Kohli should've continued to play Test cricket and even captained India in the upcoming England tour. Kohli recently retired from Tests after playing 123 matches ahead of the all-important England tour. The former India captain was just 770 runs from entering the elite list of batters with 10000 runs in Test he decided to call time on his career on the brink of achieving the landmark. Recently, Shastri shared his views on Kohli's retirement and said that he would've loved to see him play in the upcoming England tour. Shastri also said that Kohli should've been handed the captaincy of the team for the upcoming series and stated that mental fatigue may have forced him to retire from the longest format of the game."I am sure Virat still had two years of Test cricket left in him. I would have loved to see him in England this summer. It would have been a good idea to hand him the captaincy for the tour, but he would know best why he decided to leave. Maybe mental fatigue drove him to decide because he was as fit as any other player in the team. He knew his body best, but the mind would have played the decisive role. I will not rule out burnout as the decisive factor in curtailing his career at a critical phase of Indian cricket," Shastri told Shastri said that Kohli will just walk away from the game once he retires from all three formats and will not even take up coaching and commentary stints."He is still around to serve Indian cricket in ODIs, but I also know that Virat will walk away from the game once he is done playing cricket. He is not the kind who would like to coach or take on the role of a broadcaster. I will miss him when India plays its first Test in England. He was a champion, and that is what I would like to remember – never conceding an inch," he Test retirement means that he will now be seen only playing the ODI format for the country as he earlier retired from T20Is in 2024, following India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. The 36-year-old will be eager to continue playing the 50-over format till the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa at least.

Indian team head coach Gambhir offers prayers at Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple
Tirumala (Andhra Pradesh) [India], May 18 (ANI): The Indian cricket team's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, visited Tirumala with his family on Sunday to offer prayers at Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple. On the cricketing front, Gambhir savoured success in March, after months of criticism, largely due to India's shambolic Test performance. India defied the odds stacked against them, rode high on stellar performances and stayed unbeaten to lift the Champions Trophy in Dubai. India outclassed New Zealand in all facets of the game to stand triumphant with a four-wicket victory. This was India's second ICC title in a span of a year. Under former head coach Rahul Dravid, India scripted a memorable 7-run victory against South Africa in Barbados in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. India's Champions Trophy story of success came after a turbulent period, which saw India crash out of the race for a spot in the World Test Championship final. It all began after New Zealand orchestrated a historic series whitewash in the subcontinent, which left India's road to the WTC final an intricate affair. After ending up on the wrong side of a 3-0 series defeat, India had to defy the odds in Australia with a series win. Despite the historic win in the opening game in Perth, India's hopes of a series win faded with each passing game, and the five-match series ended with Australia reclaiming the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) after 10 years with a 3-1 series win. India will begin its World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 campaign with a five-match series against England in June. Ahead of the critical England Test series, India received a double blow with the retirement of its batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Virat stunned the cricketing world by announcing his retirement from the format, drawing curtains to a 14-year-long, 123-match big career. In his Test career, the 36-year-old made 123 appearances in white clothing, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties in 210 innings and the best score of 254*. He is India's fourth-highest run-getter in the format, behind Sachin Tendulkar (15,921 runs), Rahul Dravid (13,265 runs), and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122 runs). On May 7, Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket after a career spanning 67 Tests and 11 years. He amassed 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, with 12 centuries and 18 fifties. His highest score of 212 came during a memorable home series against South Africa in 2019. He finishes as India's 16th-highest run-getter in the longest format. (ANI)
