Former AEW Star Makes Surprising Return on 'WWE Monday Night Raw'

A former AEW champion resurfaced on WWE TV during "Monday Night Raw." The episodes of "WWE Raw" after "WrestleMania" have been known to deliver some surprises and memorable moments. Brock Lesnar's return to WWE in 2012 is a popular example of how unique "Monday Night Raw" can be in the aftermath of the biggest wrestling show of the year. Advertisement That tradition continued on Monday. Rusev has appeared on WWE programming for the first time since 2020. Rusev interrupted what would've been a World Tag Team Championship match between The New Day and Alpha Academy. Rusev attacked Otis and Tozawa before the match could begin. He delivered a big boot to Otis and applied the Accolade submission. After his first WWE run ended due to being released, Rusev joined AEW, where he was known as Miro. During his time with the company, he had a run with the TNT Championship. While many felt Rusev could be elevated up the card in AEW, his title reign ended up being the peak of his time with the promotion. Advertisement In February, Rusev was granted his release from AEW. Around the same time, Ricky Saints and Malakai Black also parted ways with the company. Saints has since become a champion on the "WWE NXT" brand, while Black is reportedly making his WWE return soon. Related: 'WWE Raw' Spoiler Results: Aftermath of 'WrestleMania 41'

WrestleMania 41 sees new champions crowned and 1 shocking betrayal

LAS VEGAS – WrestleMania 41 Night 1 proved to bring a lot of fire and emotion to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday night and was the perfect preview of how intense Night 2 will be. The first night crowned three new champions and saw only one competitor retain their title. Paul Heyman also blew everyone away with an epic turn against the two people who he claimed to have loved the most. Read below for the quick results for the night that was. Jey Uso got Gunther to tap out in a sleeper hold and picked up the World Heavyweight Championship. Uso needed to survive several chops and a body splash before he hit three frog splashes and a spear on Gunther to stun him. The New Day were back on top of the tag-team division as they won the World Tag Team Championship over the War Raiders. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston's veteran ring presence was a key factor in the match. Jade Cargill controlled the match against Naomi from the beginning and put the final nail in the coffin over their monthslong feud. He needed two moonsaults after getting hit with a BFT, but Jacob Fatu was triumphant in the first WrestleMania match of his career. He defeated LA Knight to become the United States champion. El Grande Americano made an impact at WrestleMania 41 with a win over Rey Fenix. He taunted El Hijo del Vikingo, who was ring side for the match as WWE Chief Content Office Paul Levesque announced the company purchased Mexico's AAA promotion. Fenix was thrust into the match after Rey Mysterio was injured. If anyone's time is now, it's Tiffany Stratton's. She made that clear on Saturday night with a victory over Charlotte Flair. The hard-fought battle closed the first chapter in what is sure to be a long history between two of the top female stars in WWE. Paul Heyman played a pivotal role in how the triple-threat match between Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and CM Punk played out. In the end, it was Heyman raising Rollins' hand as the winner. He left the entire WWE Universe stunned. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

WWE WrestleMania 41 Results: The New Day Cheats, Wins 12th Tag Title

The New Day has been reinvigorated as heels after years as babyfaces. (Credit: Michael Marques/WWE ... More via Getty Images) At WrestleMania 41, The New Day further solidified themselves as the most decorated tag team in WWE history. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods defeated The War Raiders to win the World Tag Team Championship, securing their 12th tag title win across Raw and SmackDown and 13th overall. Their historic win came inside Allegiant Stadium on WrestleMania Saturday as the duo once again staked their claim as the top tag team in professional wrestling. It was a long time coming, too. Kingston and Woods' victory surprisingly marks their first tag team title victory since 2020, and perhaps just as important, it is the first time they've held any tag team gold since turning heel on Big E last December. Their move to the dark side was one of the most memorable heel turns in recent WWE history, but the follow-up hasn't been all that great. The New Day has spent the past several months feuding on and off again with The War Raiders, so much so that it was a shocker this match even made it onto the WrestleMania 41 card. The dream scenario, for many fans at least, was for Kingston and Woods' betrayal of Big E to lead to an in-ring return for Big E, a former WWE Champion. But that, of course, hasn't happened yet. Big E said just this week that he's still not cleared to wrestle following a devastating neck injury, and ultimately, he may never be given the green light by WWE. Until then, it's Kingston and Woods continuing to wave the flag for The New Day, this time as one of WWE's biggest heat magnets. Their masterfully executed heel turn last December was badly needed after the duo hit a wall as babyfaces. While the momentum from that turn isn't going as strong as it once was, their tainted World Tag Team Championship win over the War Raiders could be exactly what they need to right the ship. In particular, it could be what Raw needs to reinvigorate its depleted tag team division. With The Judgment Day on its last legs, the Creed Brothers not pushed as more than an ancillary act and A-Town Down Under largely disappearing from Raw, the red brand's tag team division is remarkably thin. That is a stark contrast to SmackDown's tag team division, which has been an overlooked and underappreciated success on Friday nights in 2025. Part of the problem is that WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H isn't consistent with the way he pushes tag teams across the men's and women's tag team divisions. But The New Day, considered by many to be the best tag team in WWE history, is the right choice to be champions during the post-WrestleMania season. That has been evidenced by the amount of heat they've received in recent months, even though the fans in Allegiant Stadium were surprisingly quiet, especially in comparison to how loud they were for Jey Uso's title win. Although Kingston and Woods are not in their prime anymore, their status as 12-time world champions who are more hated than just about anyone in WWE right now bodes well for the immediate future of Raw's tag team division. A potential Lucha Brothers reunion, the return of the New Catch Republic and a possible push for the LWO could, much like The New Day's win, turn things around on Raw. At the very least, Kingston and Woods' victory is a nice first step in the right direction. Now, of course, the follow-up is key after a major WrestleMania 41 win.
