Glenn Greenwald says he feels ‘no regret' after private video leaked, blames political targeting

Intimate videos of journalist Glenn Greenwald were leaked online Friday, quickly sparking widespread reaction across social media. In a statement posted on X, Greenwald confirmed he appears in the footage and said it was released 'without my knowledge or consent,' calling the leak 'maliciously political. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now ' 'As for the content of the videos: I have no embarrassment or regret about them,' the 58-year-old journalist wrote. 'The videos depict consenting adults engaged in intimate actions in their private lives. They all display fully consensual behavior, harming nobody.' He added: 'Obviously it can be uncomfortable and unpleasant when your private behavior is made public against your will — that's why the behavior is private in the first place — but the only wrongdoing here is the criminal and malicious publication of the videos in an attempt to malign perceived political enemies and advance a political agenda.' Greenwald began his career as a litigation attorney before gaining recognition for his writing on national security issues following the 2001 World Trade Center attacks. He rose to international prominence in 2013 with reports for The Guardian based on classified documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The coverage earned a Pulitzer Prize in 2014. That same year, he co-founded The Intercept with journalist Jeremy Scahill and filmmaker Laura Poitras. Greenwald resigned from the publication in 2020, citing efforts to suppress his reporting critical of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden. He now writes on Substack, where he has more than 324,000 subscribers. Greenwald's husband, Brazilian congressman David Miranda, died in 2023 at age 37 due to complications from a gastrointestinal infection. The couple adopted two sons from Maceió, Brazil, in 2018.

Norfolk-based Navy ships in New York City for Fleet Week

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Fleet Week is a time for sailors and Marines to show off what they do through ship tours and many other events, as they get invited to things like baseball games, national talk shows and other happenings in New York City. While there is fun to be had, it's also described as a humbling experience. Many spectators watched the parade of ships enter Manhattan, even on a misty, drizzly day. The USS New York came into the Hudson River just before noon Wednesday — the ship with 7.5 tons of World Trade Center steel in its bow, passing by Ground Zero. Norfolk-based sailors and Marines are cruising into the city that never sleeps, ready to show off what they do. 'Aviation operations going on, [and] at the same time, we've got well deck operations going on to project power ashore,' said Lt. Gen. Roberta Shae with Marine Forces Command. As part of Fleet Week, Fleet Forces Command Admiral Daryl Caudle got to visit the NYPD Joint Operations Center. U.S. Secretary of the Navy John Phelan is also joining them for Fleet Week, now 55 days into his new position. Since starting, Phelan said he is taking time to meet the sailors, visit ships and focus on deterring threats. 'So I have been really impressed by the dedication and the work ethic, and… the fighting spirit of our troops, with the Marines… and the sailors,' Phelan said. 'And that's a great thing. Do we have work to do? Yes. Are there things that we could do to get better? Absolutely.' Ship tours in New York City start Thursday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. The US Open's Arthur Ashe stadium is getting an $800 million transformation

Arthur Ashe Stadium, the grandest stage in tennis, is set for an $800 million reinvention that promises to serve both fans and players a serious upgrade—without so much as a single delay in play. Announced Monday by the USTA, the transformation is the largest investment in the history of the U.S. Open and will completely modernize the stadium, build a state-of-the-art Player Performance Center, and usher in a new era for one of New York's most iconic sporting events. The renovation will unfold over three phases through 2027, carefully scheduled to avoid disrupting the 2025 or 2026 tournaments. The new look will include a Daniel Libeskind-designed Grand Entrance, expanded concourses (up 40-percent), more elevators and escalators, vastly improved food, drink, and retail spaces and 2,000 additional courtside seats. Two new luxury suite levels and sleek hospitality lounges will bring a level of comfort and glam typically reserved for the Met Gala. 'This project enables us to maintain the greatest stage in tennis, which was constructed more than 25 years ago, and modernize it in a way that will set it up for the next 25 years,' said USTA CEO Lew Sherr. 'It also provides us the opportunity to give the players that compete in that stadium an unparalleled space that will enable them to perform at their best.' That includes athletes getting their own $250 million playground in the form of a new Player Performance Center. Perched atop a four-story structure on the west side of the stadium, the facility will feature indoor and outdoor training turf, spa-style locker rooms, lounges and a private cafe. The center will also boast a new players-only courtyard and an exclusive entryway, giving the world's top competitors the backstage treatment they deserve. The architectural heavy-hitters behind the redesign include ROSSETTI (the original Ashe Stadium architect), Libeskind (of World Trade Center fame), and hospitality design expert Garrett Singer, known for building out buzzy clubs and restaurants across the country. And in a refreshing twist, the entire project is fully self-funded by the USTA—no taxpayer dollars required. With the Open already delivering $1.2 billion in annual economic impact to the city, the upgrades promise to pay off for the city as much as for the sport.
