Absent WWE Star May Be Sent to Another Promotion: Report
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. WWE Superstar Omos could soon be making his presence felt outside of the company once again. After a successful special run in Japan earlier this year, a new report suggests "The Nigerian Giant" may be heading to Mexico next. According to a report from WrestleVotes, WWE has had internal discussions about sending Omos to Lucha Libre AAA. The potential move would be part of a unique strategy to build him into a global, special attraction. The Plan To Build An Attraction The report from WrestleVotes indicates that WWE wants to mirror the success of Omos's brief but impactful run with Pro Wrestling NOAH this past winter. The goal is to continue to build his aura and mystique outside of the weekly WWE television grind. "WWE creative has discussed sending Omos to AAA for a run, similar to his brief NOAH stint this past winter," the report stated. "Per source, the idea is to further establish him as a true special attraction outside the WWE bubble." More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation A Modern Day Giant The "special attraction" is a time-honored tradition in professional wrestling, with the most famous example being the legendary Andre the Giant. These larger-than-life superstars are often booked sparingly to protect their mystique and are presented as unbeatable, must-see forces of nature. WWE's reported strategy with Omos seems to follow this classic booking philosophy. Roman and Seth celebrate in the ring during the WWE show at Zenith Arena on may 09, 2017 in Lille, France. PHILIPPE HUGUEN/AFP/Getty Images Omos's WWE career has seen him in high-profile spots, including a reign as Raw Tag Team Champion with AJ Styles and major WrestleMania matches against Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar. However, booking a superstar of his immense size on a weekly basis can be a creative challenge. Sending him on special "tours" to other promotions allows him to have dominant performances and build his reputation as a global monster. The potential move to AAA is made possible by the current, thriving partnership between WWE and the Mexican promotion. In recent months, this "forbidden door" relationship has seen an unprecedented talent exchange. WWE's Los Garza are the reigning AAA World Tag Team Champions, and NXT's Lola Vice recently competed on a major AAA show. This collaboration makes the idea of a main roster WWE star like Omos appearing in AAA a very real possibility. Despite his long absence from WWE television—his last match was in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in April 2024—the company has shown its commitment to the giant. In a recent interview, Omos confirmed that he had signed a new multi-year contract with WWE and has been training hard for his return. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports

Who Came Up With Roman Reigns' New ‘OTC1' Nickname?
Roman Reigns made his WWE return last night with a twist on his old nickname. In the closing moments of last night's episode of RAW, Roman Reigns returned WWE programming for the first time since the RAW after WrestleMania to confront Seth Rollins' new faction. Many fans noticed that The Tribal Chief was sporting a new shirt with the letters 'OTC1' on it. Advertisement The new nickname has been a talking point amongst fans, and it seems you either love it or you hate it. There doesn't appear to be much of an in-between at the moment. When a frustrated fan online noted on social media that the new name makes no sense because original and #1 mean the same thing, TC from WrestleVotes Radio responded, revealing the new name was Roman's idea, tweeting out: 'Joe Anoa'i's idea,' TC of WrestleVotes Radio said in a post. Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information on Reigns' plans for WWE SummerSlam as it becomes available. Scrapped WWE Storyline For Roman Reigns' Tribal Chief Title Revealed
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. WWE has released a new, high-end "Tribal Chief Championship Replica Title Belt" on its official shop. According to a new report, the title was originally intended to be part of a major on-screen storyline for Roman Reigns before the company changed its creative direction. The new replica belt is available on for $599.99. While it is now a collector's item, it was once slated to be an official part of The Bloodline saga. The Scrapped WWE Storyline According to the wrestling news account WrestleVotes, WWE had internal discussions back in December 2024 about introducing a physical "Tribal Chief Championship." The report states the new title would have been presented to Roman Reigns and used in the storyline involving the power struggle with Solo Sikoa. This would have been the title presented to Reigns on Netflix had that decision gone through back in December. Now it's a commemorative item, priced at a cool $600. — WrestleVotes (@WrestleVotes) July 15, 2025 "This would have been the title presented to Reigns on Netflix had that decision gone through back in December," WrestleVotes reported. "Now it's a commemorative item." The plan was ultimately altered, and the physical belt was never introduced on television. A History of Custom WWE Titles While a "Tribal Chief" title may seem unusual, WWE has a long history of creating custom championships to enhance the characters of its top superstars. The most famous example is Stone Cold Steve Austin's "Smoking Skull" version of the WWE Championship during the Attitude Era. Other notable custom belts include John Cena's "Spinner" belt, Edge's "Rated-R" version, and Daniel Bryan's "Eco-Friendly" title made of wood and hemp. It would have turned the symbolic leadership of the Anoa'i family, represented by the Ula Fala necklace, into a literal, physical prize for members of The Bloodline to covet and fight over. More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation The Head of the Table Returns While the storyline for a physical Tribal Chief title was scrapped, the actual Roman Reigns made his shocking return to WWE at the Night of Champions premium live event in June. After a multi-month hiatus following his loss at WrestleMania 41, Reigns returned to attack both John Cena and CM Punk. His return immediately reignited his legendary rivalry with Cena, setting the stage for a blockbuster main event match at SummerSlam. The Tribal Chief may not have a new physical belt, but he has returned to reclaim his spot at the Head of the Table. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports

Real reason for WWE star Roman Reigns' hiatus revealed
The post Real reason for WWE star Roman Reigns' hiatus revealed appeared first on ClutchPoints. It is possible that WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has welcomed another kid with his wife, and that could explain his extended hiatus since WrestleMania 41. Advertisement During a recent WrestleVotes Q&A, Joe Lowry mentioned the latest addition to Reigns' family in passing (at the 19:42 mark). 'By the way, congratulations to Roman Reigns,' Lowry said. '[He] just had another baby. Good stuff there.' So, it makes sense why Reigns has been absent from WWE. He is known for taking long breaks between matches, but this may be a justifiable reason. Reigns already has five kids, so this would presumably be his sixth. Congratulations to him and his family. Hopefully, he is enjoying his time as a dad. When will Roman Reigns return to WWE from hiatus? It has been a while since Reigns has been seen in WWE. Shortly after WrestleMania 41, there were reports that he could return at Money in the Bank, which took place on June 7. However, that did not happen. Advertisement WWE just had their Night of Champions PLE as well. Reigns was not present for the show, and fans are left wondering if he will even make it back in time for SummerSlam. Last year, Reigns returned from his post-WrestleMania 40 hiatus at SummerSlam. He interfered during Solo Sikoa's match against Cody Rhodes, helping the 'American Nightmare' pick up the win. Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images. He was present throughout the fall, feuding with Sikoa's new Bloodline. Heading into WrestleMania 41, Reigns was feuding with CM Punk and Seth Rollins. They faced in a triple threat bout in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 41, which Rollins won. Advertisement Sooner or later, Reigns will return to WWE. He is one of their biggest stars, and he still has unfinished business with Rollins, Punk, Sikoa, and Rhodes. More than likely, he will return in time to have a match at SummerSlam. It seems unlikely WWE would do a Reigns return at SummerSlam for the third time since 2020. His career outside of the ring has started to expand, too. He recently landed a role in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. Reigns will play Akuma in the upcoming video game adaptation.
