Rumor Roundup: WWE fans, Travis Scott flaking, Asuka, AEW injuries, more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill. Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt. Rumors for the Day: On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that people within WWE have actually suggested asking fans not to swear during TV shows. He would later add, however, that he doesn't expect it will actually happen. Jonathan Coachman is claiming on Behind the Turnbuckle that he is hearing Travis Scott 'flaked' on doing the tag team match with John Cena at Money in the Bank and he hasn't been training with Booker T. Per Fightful Select, there were creative discussions regarding Asuka at the beginning of the year but that was considered too early and it's still uncertain when she'll be cleared to return. The Observer notes that there are a lot of 'banged up' wrestlers in AEW coming out of Double or Nothing, including both the Young Bucks. PW Insider claims the decision on who should win the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final between Will Ospreay and Hangman Page wasn't finalized until hours before the show. They apparently went back-and-forth on it quite a bit before settling on Page. Fightful adds that the two wrestlers themselves pushed for the other to win. For what it's worth, Mick Foley told The Wrestling Classic that he had a secret meeting with MJF about a retirement match last year that never came to fruition. Foley said he loved the ideas MJF had for what would have been a six-week program. 'Don't swear because it's going to ruin the TV show': WWE requests fans to refrain from swearing at live events

(Image via WWE) WWE is currently working to clean up the crowd noise in a literal sense. To uphold its family-friendly image and comply with the broadcast and censorship rules, WWE is reportedly requesting and asking fans to refrain from swearing during live televised events. This initiative aligns with the company's longstanding commitment to TV-PG programming, which emphasizes content suitable for a broad audience, including children. The move comes after increasing concerns over the use of explicit language from both performers and audiences. The use of strong language during live broadcasts has highlighted the challenges WWE faces in maintaining its PG standards. Such instances have led to network interventions, including muting audio and censoring visuals, and this step is required for the company to comply with television broadcasting guidelines, owing to its target audience. WWE requests fans to refrain from swearing at live events WWE has reportedly asked fans to refrain from swearing at live events to maintain broadcasting compliance. This is not the first time that the company has decided to take such an important step to ask people to avoid profanity. Earlier, WWE addressed this issue by holding mandatory meetings with talent, reminding them to be mindful of their language on camera, and now it is expecting the same from its fans, too. In a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio , Dave Meltzer asserted that the company has discussed possibly asking fans in attendance at televised events to refrain from swearing during the show. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elevate Business Writing With This Desktop App Grammarly Learn More Undo Wrestling Observer Radio Live with Dave Meltzer & Bryan Alvarez Meltzer said, 'People have actually suggested this, of just like making an announcement of, 'Hey, we're here. It's a TV show. It's going all over the world. We want you to have fun, don't swear because it's going to ruin the TV show.'' While nothing has been officially implemented, Meltzer revealed that the idea has been brought up behind the scenes. He explained that WWE is concerned about inappropriate language being picked up on live broadcasts that air around the world. 'Hey Rock, Go F*** Yourself!' He further stated that, 'In the past, if they had done that, the audience would have then started swearing because they wouldn't want to be controlled. But I think this audience is mature enough and smart enough and everything like that that if you told them that I think they might be okay with it.' Meltzer also stated that nothing has been officially declared yet by the company. 'That is something that has been suggested, I know that, but they don't do it so you're going to have that stuff,' he noted. Unfortunately, Zoey Stark got hurt during a Money in the Bank qualifying match on WWE Raw on the May 19, 2025, show, which seemed to cause a clear change in the match's original plans. Read more: WWE Superstar Zoey Stark Carried Backstage After Suffering Brutal Injury The Triple Threat qualifying match featured Stark, Rhea Ripley, and the returning Kairi Sane. All three women were fighting hard for a chance to be in the women's Money in the Bank ladder match, which is scheduled for June 7, 2025, where the winner gets a future title shot. During the May 19th WWE Raw contest, Stark landed badly on her leg after trying a springboard dropkick. WWE officials took her out of the match because she was hurt and could not continue. Dave Meltzer later discussed what the original plans for the match might have been before Stark's injury and how Stark's injury likely affected the match's outcome. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said that Sane's return match was not supposed to end with her being pinned. He stated, "So Sane (was pinned in) her first match back, which obviously wasn't the plan." Meltzer added, "They had no choice, they had to do what they had to do." Bryan Alvarez, also from Wrestling Observer Radio, further said that the first plan was for Zoey Stark to be the one who was pinned in the match to protect Sane in her return. Instead, due to the injury, Ripley was the one who won the important match. She pinned Sane to get her spot in the women's Money in the Bank ladder match. After the show, Ripley went on X to talk about Stark's injury. She shared a message with WWE fans about how dangerous professional wrestling can be for the performers. More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation Ripley wrote, "Professional wrestling can be very real and dangerous... Tonight continued to prove that anything can happen." She also sent her best wishes to her fellow wrestler, saying, "Wishing @ZoeyStarkWWE a speedy recovery! 🖤" This isn't the first serious injury for Stark during her time in WWE. She previously had a major knee injury, where she tore her ACL and meniscus, at an NXT Halloween Havoc event back in 2021. At that time, Stark herself confirmed how bad the knee injury was. She had said she had torn her ACL, MCL and PCL. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Professional wrestling fans around the world were shocked when WWE released well over a dozen Superstars from the company. The releases included multiple tenured members of the roster, including Braun Strowman, Shayna Baszler, and Dakota Kai. WWE/Getty Images During an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, pro wrestling insider Dave Meltzer revealed the individual reasons he was allegedly told that these wrestlers are no longer with WWE. Meltzer indicated that the Monster Among Men may have been too pricey for what they wanted him to do. "He is the one that the salary was too high; one person told me that they felt he was being... he was paid more than how they were using him," Meltzer said. "The reality of Braun Strowman is that ever since he had that hamstring injury, he's never been the same." More Pro Wrestling: Released WWE Superstar Retires From Pro Wrestling Meanwhile, Meltzer believed that Baszler was released because of her age. It's worth noting that WWE has multiple wrestlers older than Baszler still on the roster. "Shayna is very good at being Shayna Baszler. In WWE, at times, they let her be Shayna Baszler," Meltzer said, seemingly indicating that she was misused by the company. That being said, Meltzer believes that Baszler and Dakota Kai will easily find homes in other promotions. "So, Shotzi's contract is expired or is expiring, so in her case, she will be able to go as soon as her contract is expired; there will be no non-compete," Meltzer stated. "Shotzi's a hard worker, you know." Shotzi has already made moves for her post-WWE career, releasing a promo on social media. Whatever happens next I'm ready for it. Stay ballsy my friends. 💚 — Shotzi (@ShotziWWE) May 1, 2025 Finally, Meltzer turned his attention to the released NXT talent, saying that some were released due to not being seen as "main roster material" and others were "lazy" and "not working hard in training." "Many of those cut were perceived as not working hard in training," Meltzer explained. "And if you don't work hard in training, there's so many people who do. And at this point, if the feeling is you're not working hard in training - I saw the term 'lazy' - the ones who are lazy are gonna be gone, and the ones who didn't stand out are gonna be gone." This assessment was immediately met with criticism from some of the released wrestlers. "And worked out every single day. With live events every other weekend. So yeah I don't wanna hear this lol. The way my body feels says otherwise." Rumor Roundup: Becky Lynch return, Bayley sympathy, Rey Mysterio injury, AAA, more!

Remember, take it all with a grain of salt. Rumors for the Day: WWE replacing Bayley with Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 'has been in the works for awhile' and 'was not a last minute thing', per Wrestling Observer Radio's Bryan Alvarez. A PW Insider Elite report said there was sympathy in the WWE locker room for Bayley this weekend after word got around about her losing her WrestleMania spot despite being healthy. Per Wrestling Observer Radio, the injury that led to Rey Mysterio having to be pulled from WrestleMania 41 was a torn groin. He initially thought he could power through but the damage was worse than he thought. WWE's acquisition of AAA has apparently been in the works for a while. Dave Meltzer said on Observer Radio that it's 'something that's been brewing for well over a year'. Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp talked to AAA talent who said they'd 'kind of heard stuff for a while' but didn't put much stock into it until 'stuff really started to pick up' after the TKO merger. Some that Sapp talked to were 'even skeptical of the announcement' and 'would be shocked' if the Roldan family sold WWE 'total control' of AAA. Regarding current AAA champ Alberto El Patron, Fightful says that for years WWE was a 'hard no' on bringing back the former Alberto Del Rio. But sources close to El Patron claim there have been talks, and that things are no longer 'contentious' between the two sides. F4WOnline's Dave Meltzer says WWE's original plan was for Charlotte Flair to be a babyface when she returned at Royal Rumble earlier this year. Eric Bischoff and CJ 'Lana' Perry became the latest wrestling figure to sign with Paradigm Talent Agency. They join CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Tiffany Stratton, Damian Priest, Liv Morgan, Alexa Bliss, and Sheamus as Paradigm clients.
