Wycombe's previous encounters against the seven new teams who will play in League One
Following AFC Wimbledon's 1-0 victory against Walsall in the League Two play-off final, all of the teams for the 2025/26 League One season have been confirmed. Coming from the division below, Wycombe Wanderers will face Doncaster Rovers, Bradford City and Port Vale as well as the original Dons, whilst Cardiff City, Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town have arrived following their relegations from the Championship. So, let us look back at when the Chairboys each faced these seven times in the league. Wycombe Wanderers 1-3 Luton Town, April 10, 2021 This fixture came at the back end of Wanderers' maiden season in the Championship, which saw them suffer relegation back down to the third tier in May of that year. Against the Hatters, Anis Mehmeti scored a first-half penalty to put Wanderers 1-0 up, but on 57 minutes, the game completely changed. Centre back and that year's Player of the Season, Josh Knight, was sent off for deliberately denying a goal-scoring opportunity. Luton gathered momentum and scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to secure all three points in South Buckinghamshire. Plymouth Argyle 1-0 Wycombe Wanderers, December 29, 2022 In what was the club's final league game of 2022, Wycombe travelled to Home Park to face Plymouth, who had beaten them 1-0 earlier in the season. Dan Scarr, once of Wanderers, scored the only goal of the game as Argyle continued to strive in the top two whilst Wycombe were battling in and around the play-offs. However, the game is best remembered for a concerning incident surrounding then-Chairboys striker Tjay De Barr. The Gibraltarian collapsed at the full-time whistle and was taken to hospital but was later discharged. He had taken a knock to the chest and began to cough up blood after the match had ended. Cardiff City 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers, April 24, 2021 The penultimate away league outing of Wycombe's Championship season, Wanderers knew that a win against the Bluebirds gave them a realistic chance of staying up. Kieffer Moore put the hosts ahead before Joe Jacobson, a Cardiff fan growing up, scored a penalty to bring the Chairboys level. But Moore's second late on, despite Will Vaulks' red card, gave the Welsh side the win. AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Wycombe Wanderers, April 18, 2022 Wycombe and Wimbledon have played each other a couple of times in the EFL Trophy since 2022, with the point on Easter Monday playing a huge part in their promotion push that year. Jack Rudoni put the Dons ahead before Adebayo Akinfenwa's late header, which was his last for the club against his former side, rescued a point. Wimbledon were relegated that year whilst Wycombe reached the play-off final, losing to Sunderland. Wycombe Wanderers 0-0 Bradford City, February 2, 2019 Despite Wycombe playing Bradford twice in cup matches during 2023/24 season, you have to go back to the 2018/19 campaign when the Chairboys faced the Bantams in the league. The encounter at Adams Park that day finished goalless, with the Yorkshire outfit suffering relegation to League Two that year. Wycombe avoided the drop with an end-of-season rally, with three wins from their last six games. Port Vale 1-2 Wycombe Wanderers, April 16, 2024 This mid-week fixture from just over a year ago saw David Wheeler put Wycombe a goal up inside four minutes before Ethan Chislett equalised moments after the break. Then, on a ramping run forward, on-loan Wolverhampton Wanderers man Nigel Lonwjik scored the winner with minutes remaining. Vale were relegated that year but only spent one season in League Two before a return to League One. Strikes from Garath McCleary and Anis Mehmeti easily wrapped up the win for Wycombe against Doncaster in the most recent clash between the two teams. Wanderers reached the play-off final that year whilst Donny were relegated to League Two. They would remain in the division for three years.

Charlton vs Leyton Orient: League One play-off final prediction, kick-off time, TV, live stream, team news, h2h, odds
Charlton take on Leyton Orient in the League One play-off final on Sunday with a place in the Championship next season up for grabs. The two east London outfits will face off at Wembley Stadium with Charlton looking to make a long-overdue return to the second tier. The Addicks, under the stewardship of Nathan Jones, were relegated from the Championship in 2020 after just one season back at that level. Meanwhile Orient, led by Richie Wellens, have never played in the Championship in their history, and promotion would add another chapter to their remarkable rise from recent adversity. The club tumbled out of the Football League in 2017, ending a 117-year stay in the top four divisions of the pyramid as they wrestled with financial insecurity under the ownership of Francesco Becchetti. The O's won promotion back to League Two in 2019 under Justin Edinburgh, before Richie Wellens won them the fourth tier title in 2023. The pair finished fifth and sixth respectively in the League One table, with Charlton defeating Wycombe in a tense 1-0 aggregate win, while Orient beat Stockport County on penalties to book their place in the Wembley showpiece. Charlton v Leyton Orient is scheduled for a 1.01pm BST kick-off on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The match will take place at Wembley Stadium. TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on Sky Sports Football, with coverage starting at 12pm BST. Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers will be aim to stream the game live on Now TV. Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport's live blog, with expert analysis from Dom Smith at the ground. Free highlights: The Sky Sports app and YouTube channel will show highlights of the game. Addicks fans can expect a full complement to traverse the city come Sunday, with no injury worries for Nathan Jones. There may be a slight question mark over Luke Berry, who missed the second leg win over Wycombe with a minor injury, while Chuks Aneke returned to Jones' matchday squad following a three-game suspension after his red card during the 4-0 win at Wycombe back in April. As for Orient, Wellens will be without long-term absentees Dan Happe and Tom James, with the defenders ruled out for the season after being forced off in last month's 0-0 draw with Wigan. Otherwise, Wellens will a full squad to pick from as he looks to guide the O's into the second tier for the first time. Orient were the form team going into the play-offs, winning their last six games to seal the final top-six spot. Those wins included crucial victories against fellow play-off contenders Wycombe (1-0) and Huddersfield (4-1), which showed their mettle when the presure intensified. They battled back from 2-1 down in the first leg of their semi-final against Stockport at Brisbane Road, before they held on at Edgeley Park to take County all the way to spot-kicks in a nervy second leg. Charlie Kelman, who netted a brace in the first leg to supplement his 21 goals in the regular league season, will be pivotal to their chances of victory at Wembley, and momentum is with them going into Sunday. As for Charlton, Jones' side had to bounce back quickly after a 3-0 drubbing at Wrexham on the penultimate day of the campaign, beating Burton 3-1 in the final fixture to return to winning ways ahead of the play-offs. Matt Godden's experience came in handy as he notched the winner over two legs against Wycombe, and that could prove vital again here. Charlton to win, 1-0 The two teams first met in the old Third Division in 1993, with Charlton winning 3-1. Since then, it's been fairly even... Charlton wins: 26 Leyton Orient wins: 21 Draws: 10 Charlton to win: 8/15 Leyton Orient to win: 11/8 Odds via Betfair (subject to change).

Former Carlisle United defender offered new deal in League One
Former Carlisle United defender Fin Back has been offered a new contract in League One. Wycombe Wanderers have confirmed that they have tabled fresh terms to the full-back, who joined them in the winter. Back, 22, signed for the Chairboys on February's transfer deadline day as he ended his long stint with Nottingham Forest. He made just two first-team appearances in the second half of the season. But, after Wycombe missed out on promotion in the play-offs, they have confirmed their intention to keep Back for longer. He is one of five players offered new terms by the Adams Park club after the third-tier campaign, with Wycombe having published their retained and released list. Back had two loan spells with Carlisle, in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons respectively, making a total of 41 appearances under Paul Simpson. Some ten players have been released by Wycombe, meanwhile, including wide man Adam Reach, who was the subject of reported interest from Carlisle last season. The Chairboys lost to Charlton Athletic in the play-off semi-finals after finishing fifth in the table. Those still under contract at Adams Park include the ex-Carlisle loan goalkeeper Shamal George.

Photograph: Jonathan Brady/PA Dai Yongge has sold Reading to Rob Couhig, ending the Chinese businessman's turbulent reign. Couhig, the 76-year-old former Wycombe owner, has acquired the League One club, their stadium and training ground. The English Football League said it wished Reading and their supporters 'a successful future following a difficult period for all associated with the club'. A deal had been agreed for several weeks and has now been ratified by the EFL. Advertisement The US-based Couhig has been named chair and his business partner Todd Trosclair has also joined the board. Couhig tried to buy Reading last year but the deal collapsed in September 2024. Reading have been bought by Redwood Holdings Ltd, a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, which is owned by Couhig and Trosclair. 'Redwood is ambitious and dedicated towards the club returning to its rightful place within the English football pyramid, while adhering to clear principles of honesty, transparency and financial sustainability,' a club statement said. Reading have been docked 18 points across the past three seasons, a period in which the club have also been under a series of embargoes for defaulted payments. Dai cut funding for Reading Women, resulting in them withdrawing from the second tier last summer, and in March he was disqualified as an owner by the EFL and given a deadline to sell the club, owing to business activity in China. A statement from the supporters' campaign group Sell Before We Dai said: 'We are incredibly relieved and happy that Reading Football Club are finally under new ownership. It's a day which we thought, at times, may never happen.'
