Myanmar, China police jointly crack down on online fraud in Shan State: 256 suspects arrested

YANGON: The Myanmar and Chinese police forces held a meeting to discuss combating online fraud in the Muse region for the third time. On July 26, a Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Police Chief Police Major General Aung Naing Thu and a Chinese delegation led by Jiang Guoli, Political Commissar of the Criminal Investigation Bureau under the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, met at the YESTE Hotel conference hall in Mangshi City, Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. They held discussions and coordinated efforts for the third round of combatting online fraud in the Muse region. During the meeting, it was noted that Myanmar and China had jointly conducted their first and second rounds of anti-online fraud operations in the Muse region in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Additionally, in collaboration with China, anti-online fraud operations were carried out in the Myawaddy area of Kayin State, leading to the identification and investigation of 9,299 foreign nationals so far. The two sides also discussed information sharing, the extradition of arrested suspects, and future procedures for identifying and apprehending illegal online fraud perpetrators. Subsequently, from July 28 to 30, the Myanmar and Chinese police forces, along with the military responsible for territorial security, jointly conducted the third round of online fraud crackdown operations in the Muse region of northern Shan State. During the operation, they arrested 256 Chinese nationals who had illegally entered and engaged in online fraud. Additionally, they seized 15 buildings used for fraudulent activities, 30 computers, seven laptops, 311 mobile phones of various types, and 14 Wi-Fi devices. In accordance with the friendly relations between Myanmar and China and the agreements reached during the discussions, the arrested individuals were handed over to Chinese authorities by Police Major General Aung Naing Thu and officials from the Regional Operations Command at the Man Wein Gate border checkpoint on the morning of July 31. - Eleven Media/ANN
