‘Betrayal Day' posters launched

Kodumur: Former KUDA Chairman and Kodumur Constituency Coordinator Kotla Harshavardhan Reddy, along with Kodumur Constituency In-charge Dr Adimulapu Suresh, released a poster announcing the upcoming 'Betrayal Day' protest to be held on June 4 in Gudur town on Sunday. The event is being organised as per the directions of former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party State President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The poster release ceremony was attended by party leaders, local representatives, and activists, with a collective call to make the protest a grand success. Addressing the media on the occasion, Harshavardhan Reddy and Dr Adimulapu Suresh strongly criticized the ruling alliance government, accusing it of betraying the people of Andhra Pradesh. They alleged that even after completing one year in power, the coalition government has failed to fulfill the promises made to the public. The leaders highlighted how the alliance government, formed after the 2024 elections, has consistently misled the people by not implementing the commitments it made before the elections. They claimed that the present government has deceived every section of society — students, women, farmers, and the underprivileged. 'The people were lured with attractive promises during the elections, but the reality has been a stark contrast. Not a single assurance has been implemented, revealing the true nature of the TDP-led coalition,' said Dr Suresh. Kotla Harshavardhan Reddy said that June 4 would serve as a crucial moment to expose the betrayal of the alliance government. He appealed to YSRCP cadres, local leaders, farmers, youth, and the general public to gather in large numbers at Gudur to voice their discontent through peaceful democratic protest. Several prominent local leaders also took part in the poster launch event, including ZPTC member Raghunath Reddy, former Deputy Sarpanch Praveen, former Society President Krishna Reddy, and YSRCP Mandal Convenor Ramesh Naidu. The YSRCP leadership reaffirmed that their fight will continue until justice is served to the people of Andhra Pradesh and urged everyone to join hands in making 'Betrayal Day' a historic demonstration of public voice and democratic resistance.

Gazette notification gives room for early panchayat polls

Rajamahendravaram: There are growing indications that Panchayat elections may be conducted earlier than scheduled, possibly as soon as September. Although the current term of the Gram Panchayats officially ends in March 2026, the Panchayat Raj Act permits elections to be held up to five months in advance. Observers believe the State government may use this provision to go to the polls early. The previous round of panchayat elections was held in February 2021, with the governing bodies taking charge from April 1 of that year. The YSR Congress Party secured over 90 percent of the panchayats during that round. However, allegations arose that the ruling party misused its power to block opposition candidates from filing nominations, raising questions about the fairness of the process. In a move that strengthens the possibility of early elections, officials have begun the process of notifying the gram panchayats across the region. On Thursday, Kakinada District Collector and United District nodal officer Sagili Shan Mohan issued a gazette notification confirming the total number of gram panchayats in the erstwhile East Godavari district as 1,102. This figure was finalised after including newly formed panchayats, merged mandals, and those integrated into urban local bodies. The notification was issued based on the directions of the State Panchayat Raj Commissioner. In 2010, the district had 1012 gram panchayats divided into five grades based on population and revenue. After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, four mandals from Khammam district were merged into East Godavari. Later, in 2020, new panchayats were formed. Special notifications were issued creating 35 new gram panchayats, while eight were converted into municipalities or merged with urban bodies. As part of this reorganisation, 63 panchayats from Kunavaram, Chintur, VR Puram, and Yetapaka mandals were added to East Godavari. In 2010, the panchayats were categorised into five grades based on population and revenue, but now, a move towards a three-grade system is being discussed. Currently, smaller panchayats are being administered in clusters of two or three.

Temple lands not lentil, jaggery to be given away: Jagan Reddy's party leader

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) senior leader and former MLA Malladi Vishnu on Friday criticised the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government's recent move to allocate temple lands without public auctions. He called it a 'sinister attempt' to hand over sacred assets to favoured organisations under the guise of was referring to a Government Order (GO) issued on May 2, which amends the 2003 lease and license rules under the Andhra Pradesh Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions Act. The order allows temple lands to be leased for up to 33 years at nominal rates without auctions, which Vishnu says violates court-mandated procedures and undermines temple lands are not political spoils to be distributed like lentils and jaggery,' said Vishnu. He accused the TDP government of bypassing both cabinet approval and legal safeguards, enabling select groups to access temple lands worth thousands of crores. Citing past controversies, Vishnu recalled how during the TDP's 2014-19 tenure, an attempt was made to offload 83 acres of Sadavarti Satram land near Chennai for Rs 22 crore, until a legal battle and re-auction, led by YSRCP, brought in Rs 60 warned that with 87,000 acres of temple lands already under encroachment and only 1.6 lakh acres generating revenue, the new GO could pave the way for massive asset for the immediate withdrawal of the order, Vishnu said YSRCP would explore all legal avenues to protect temple lands and urged devotees and religious groups to join the resistance. Chandrababu Naidu elected TDP national president unanimously

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) completed the formality of electing N. Chandrababu Naidu as the party's national president unanimously at the Mahanadu here on Wednesday. Party election committee chairman Varla Ramaiah announced Mr. Naidu's election to the top party post and administered the oath to him amid thunderous applause. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Naidu said he was thankful to everyone for giving him the responsibility yet again, and that collective efforts should be made to translate the six resolutions (that were passed earlier) into reality. The resolutions laid the roadmap for the next 40 years, he said, and pointed out that the TDP weathered many a storm in the last 43 years, and asserted that it had the capacity to be a vibrant entity for many more years to come. Some of the challenges successfully faced by the TDP were Naxalism and factionalism, and more recently, land scams, ganja and drugs and many other things during the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) rule. He observed that law and order had gone for a toss in 2019-24 and the situation was getting to normal under the NDA regime. Mr. Naidu said he gave due priority to the development of Rayalaseema with focus on completing the long-pending irrigation projects, and that the interlinking of rivers would make the parched region fertile. The State was able to garner substantial funding from the Central government for the construction of Amaravati and several other projects with the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said. Mr. Naidu stated that the Polavaram project would be completed and dedicated to the nation by the end of 2027. The TDP supremo said the government had drawn up plans to transform Visakhapatnam into a financial hub, and that he opposed the privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and was in the process of getting ArcelorMittal-Nippon Steel to set up a huge plant in Anakapalli district. He announced that foundation would be laid for the Kadapa steel plant in 10 days and expressed confidence that he would be the one inaugurating it. The three-Million-tonne per annum steel plant was being established by the Jindal Group in two phases at a cost of ₹9,000 crore. The government was developing industrial parks in all the 175 constituencies, setting up Ratan Tata Innovation Hubs in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, and Anantapur. Due focus had been laid on improving the lot of farmers, Mr. Naidu said, while affirming that the government was moving forward with a fine balance between development and welfare.

Naidu declares war on corruption

Kadapa: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president and Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday issued a stern warning against corruption, vowing strong action against those involved. Delivering the inaugural address at the Mahanadu conclave at Kadapa - a traditional stronghold of the YSR Congress Party, Naidu declared that while corruption existed in past regimes, the scale seen duringthe previous YSRCP government was 'on an entirely different level'. He stated that with the new coalition government now in power, investigations were underway to unearth the scams of the destructive rulers. He made it clear that the NDA government would hold every corrupt individual accountable. "By electing us, the people have rejected the corrupt and entrusted us with the responsibility to bring them to justice," he asserted. 'Those who looted public wealth and deviated from their duties - be they leaders or officials—will not be spared. Though there may be some delay, punishment is a must," he remarked. Naidu emphasised that the party's true strength lies in its workers, calling them its 'lifeblood and weapons'. He assured that the sacrifices made by workers who fought against destructive regimes would not go in vain, pledging his unwavering support for their welfare. He reiterated TDP's consistent role as a trendsetter in governance, welfare, development, and reforms. "Our commitment is 'State First,' and our path is that of positive politics,' he said. He noted that the TDP is the only regional party to have achieved the record of enrolling one crore members in just 45 days. The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of holding Mahanadu in Kadapa, a deviation from the traditional venue of Tirupati for Rayalaseema. This marked the first Mahanadu in Kadapa after the formation of the coalition government. Despite a year having passed since the elections, Naidu observed that the fervor and passion of the party workers remained undiminished. Recalling the previous election win of 7 out of 10 seats in undivided Kadapa, he urged the workers to strive harder to secure all 10 seats in the next election. Naidu declared that this 34th Mahanadu would be "marked in golden letters." He condemned the previous regime, alleging that it had turned governance into a 'nightmare of political murders, vendettas, and false cases." He accused them of devastating the state with destructive policies and persecuting TDP leaders and workers who dared to question them, leading to many losing their lives. He lauded the resilience of the party workers, stating that despite torture and fabricated cases, "not one worker lowered the party flag." Naidu maintained that TDP's greatest revolution was social justice, achieved by providing political representation to marginalised communities, particularly bringing BCs into political participation 40 years ago, which made TDP an unstoppable force. He also stressed TDP's instrumental role in shaping national policy, citing the adage, "What Andhra thinks today, India thinks tomorrow," as having been proven many times. Looking ahead, he emphasised the need for innovation in the party's agenda in this age of technology. He stated that this Mahanadu in Kadapa would host key deliberations and design the future for coming generations. In terms of new initiatives, Chandrababu Naidu announced that free RTC bus travel for women would commence from August 15. He also confirmed the issuance of DSC notifications and the launch of 'Thalliki Vandanam' scheme before the re-opening of schools. Under this scheme, TDP promised to pay Rs 15,000 to each mother whose child is enrolled in school. Under the leadership of IT Minister Nara Lokesh, WhatsApp Governance and Mana Mitra have been introduced as game changers for accountability and transparency, Naidu added. Finally, Naidu underscored the critical need for banning high-denomination currency, revealing that he had submitted a report to the Prime Minister advocating for the introduction of digital currency to trace illegal transactions. He asserted that true public service required clean governance, and that banning high-denomination notes was the only way to eliminate corruption. Earlier, the TDP supremo paid tributes to the martyrs of Pahalgam and brave soldiers.
