Cantopop singer helps Hong Kong students set the stage for success
A struggling student in Hong Kong said she would only study if singer-songwriter Chau Yan-ting sent her a personal message. She did not expect her teacher to share her wish with the rising star – or that he would show up at her school. The Cantopop singer affectionately known as YT surprised the student with a live performance at her secondary school. 'A year later, I saw her again at an event and learned that she successfully got into university. That moment truly moved me,' shared the 34-year-old artist, who was born in Hong Kong and raised in Singapore. 'It made me realise that even the smallest actions can leave a mark.' Last July, this sense of purpose inspired Chau to launch a year of free school performances. He visited dozens of Hong Kong schools to encourage pupils to follow their dreams. 'Looking back at my secondary school days, there were moments when I doubted myself and lacked confidence. I wished someone had been there to lift me up,' Chau said. 'Now, if I have the ability to do that for others, I feel it's my privilege to try.' The singer's career Chau debuted as a singer in 2015. After a while, his career slowed down. It left him questioning his place in the industry. With no resources, he began pitching himself to major record labels in hopes of a breakthrough. A few years ago, his single, 'Regret' (遲了悔改) – written as the theme song for a ViuTV drama – went viral. Last year, Chau's hit, 'Three Lives of Luck', not only topped local music charts but the self-directed music video also amassed more than 6.6 million views. Chau was one of the top five contenders for 'My Favourite Male Singer' in the Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation earlier this year. Connecting with Hong Kong students Through his school tour, Chau hopes to inspire students to tackle stress by building resilience. Rather than sugar-coating life's difficulties, Chau uses his visits to encourage students to face reality head-on. 'I'm not here to paint the world as a beautiful place. I talk about its harshness, but I also emphasise that we still have to keep moving forward. It's about being real with them,' he said. Chau shares his advice with Hong Kong teens. He also learns from them. 'Interacting with them has taught me so much about what's on their minds,' he said. 'While I share my experiences, they also ask me many questions, which help me understand how I can better support them, whether through my music or meaningful discussions.' The singer said he was especially touched when he saw how happy the students were when he visited. 'Some even message me to share how much it meant to them ... I hope they know that someone in this city is truly listening to their voices,' he said. Sample answers Stop and think: Chau says that he hopes his music and school appearances can help students reduce their stress and allow them to push them through difficulties. He said the students help him by asking him questions, which allows him to understand their situations and how they need support.

Distorted voice glitch in 24 Oras draws laughs, praise for professionalism
A live audio glitch on GMA's 24 Oras quickly went viral on social media after field reporter Jasmin Gabriel-Galban's voice suddenly shifted to a high-pitched tone during a report on a serious election-related incident. In a video posted on X (formerly twitter), the report covered the death of a senior citizen during the 2025 midterm elections. Anchor Vicky Morales introduced Galban, who was reporting live from Dagupan, Pangasinan, when the sound distortion occurred. Despite the technical hiccup, Morales maintained her composure. Viewers praised her, with one netizen saying, 'Pero in fairness poker face pa rin si Vicki. Wow ang professionalism!' Another one said: 'Paano kinaya ni Vicky yon? Hahaha! Kung ako yon, tawang tawa na ako.' One also noted, 'Yung interpreter din na nag-sign language, professional din.' Clips of the glitch circulated online. One netizen commented: 'Ba't naman naging chipmunk bigla?' 'Sabi na eh. May magpopost neto eh. Daming nag-comment kanina sa YT na 'Another MEME has been born,'' another one wrote. Other users described the broadcast's handling of the issue. One netizen wrote: 'Binalikan siya para ayusin. Tas ganon pa rin. Hanggang ngayon di pa ulit nababalikan. Hahaha!' 'Twice nangyari yan actually haha. Ang ingay sobra sa live chat,' another one said. Amid the viral reaction, some netizens defended the team behind the scenes, noting the stress of election coverage. One commenter said, 'Obvious naman na technical problem. OA kayo maka-react. Di niyo alam if you work sa GMA, mag-damag ang duty kapag election. Literal na 24 hours nakabantay sa botohan.' As of this writing, the video on X has garnered over 56k likes, 12k reposts, and 400 comments. GMA ANO TO ?????? 😭😭😭 — luna (@kluvspjw) May 12, 2025

The Great Himalayan ‘Golmal'
Producer's Note: For a better experience, listen to the audio version as many elements weren't used on YT because of copyright reasons. Science isn't always the noble pursuit of truth. Ambition and greed can sometimes corrupt even promising scientists. This episode delves into one of the all-time great hoaxes perpetrated by Indian palaeontologist and geologist, Vishwajit Gupta, of Panjab University. Over decades, he passed off fossils from different parts of the world as 'Himalayan fossils' and was widely commended by an unsuspecting scientific community, until Australian geologist John Talent ripped apart his facade. Gupta's fraud was similar to what is considered the greatest hoax in science ever, namely, Piltdown Man. How did Gupta carry out his crimes, and how did Talent expose him? Listen in The Rearview is a podcast where the hosts guide you on a scenic route through the history of science. Filled with fascinating anecdotes, deep archival dives, and a closer look at the quirky minds behind groundbreaking ideas. Pak YouTube Banned | India bans 16 Pak YT Channels Over Fake News After Pahalgam Attack: "False..." As per the government sources, On the recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Government of India has taken a firm stand, banning 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including prominent ones like Dawn News, Samaa TV, Ary News, and Geo News. The move comes in response to these channels disseminating provocative, communally sensitive content, spreading false narratives, and misinforming the public about India, its Army, and its security agencies. This decision is particularly tied to the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. On April 22nd, around 2 pm, terror struck near the Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist spot in Pahalgam. The attack has since shaken the nation. The situation remains tense along the Line of Control, with security forces ramping up anti-terror operations in Kashmir. In response, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed that India would not rest until justice is served, issuing a stern warning to pursue the terrorists 'to the ends of the earth.' Show Full
