Mysore MP promises swift resolution of logistics park issues

Mysuru: Mysore MP Yaduveer Wadiyar on Tuesday said he will take swift action to address the operational challenges faced by the Multi Modal Logistics Park, an inland container depot in Kadakola, which was developed by Container Corporation of India (CONCOR). The depot, inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024, was built at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore but remained underutilised due to the absence of a customs clearance facility. Suresh Jain, general secretary of the micro, small and medium enterprises council, Mysuru, highlighted the issue, stating, "Without a customs clearance facility, industries are forced to rely on ports in Chennai, Mangaluru, or Kochi, rendering the depot idle." Responding to the concerns, Yaduveer told reporters that he was unaware of this issue. "I will work to resolve it at the earliest," he said. Meanwhile, Yaduveer announced plans to commemorate Mysuru Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar's birth anniversary on Wednesday, uniquely by making the Mysuru Palace plastic-free. "We will install a water vending machine on the palace premises. This will end the problem of water bottle menace," he said. "It is our duty to support the civic workers who serve the society. Our aim is to provide ration for a month," he said. Addressing the issue of Kamal Haasan's controversial statement, which was perceived as anti-Kannada, Yaduveer stated that only the public can teach a lesson by boycotting the actor's films until he apologises. "Languages naturally influence one another, but claiming one language gave birth to another is unacceptable," he remarked. The MP also called on the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and police to devise a strategy to prevent miscreants from defacing statues in the city, emphasising the need to protect public monuments.

Yaduveer urges Centre to grant autonomy to classical Kannada study centre

MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has urged the Ministry of Education to grant autonomous status to the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK), Mysuru. Mr. Yaduveer highlighted that although Kannada was declared a classical language 17 years ago, the study centre is yet to receive autonomy—an essential step for its growth and development. In a letter addressed to the Ministry, Mr. Yaduveer stressed the importance of autonomy to expand the centre's academic and research activities. He pointed out that the CESCK currently functions under the Central Institute of Indian Languages and is managed by a team comprising a project director, 11 academic staff, and 8 administrative personnel. He noted that the Centre has played a significant role in promoting Kannada through various programmes, publications, and scholarly works. However, without autonomy and infrastructure, its potential remains constrained, he argued. A key requirement for autonomy is the establishment of a dedicated building. In this regard, the University of Mysore Syndicate has identified four acre and two gunta of land near the Pump House, opposite Basavapeetha, for a permanent campus. The State government had issued an order in 2020 approving the allotment of this land. Mr. Yaduveer requested the Ministry of Education and the Department of Higher Education to expedite the release of necessary funds and provide full support for the construction of the new facility and the upgradation of the centre's infrastructure.

HAL is Karnataka's pride, built by Kannadigas, says Yaduveer

MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has asserted that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a matter of immense pride for Karnataka and was established through the vision and efforts of Kannadigas, with no role played by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in its founding. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Yaduveer said that HAL's origins trace back to 1940 when American entrepreneur William D. Pawley and Indian industrialist Walchand Hirachand proposed setting up an aircraft manufacturing facility. The then Maharaja of Mysore supported the initiative by providing approximately 700 acres of land free of cost, facilitating the establishment of the company. Mr. Yaduveer also pointed out that several States, including Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu, have expressed interest in relocating HAL to their regions. However, Mr. Yaduveer opposed any such move, stating that HAL must remain in Karnataka. The company was renamed Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in 1964 and brought under the Ministry of Defence, he said in a statement here. Responding to the remarks of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who recently credited Nehru with HAL's establishment, Mr. Yaduveer refuted the claim, stressing that it was Walchand Hirachand who envisioned the company, and the Mysore Maharaja who facilitated its founding. Highlighting HAL's contributions during World War II, Mr. Yaduveer called on the State government to take measures to ensure HAL's continued growth. 'We will appeal to the Union government as well to support HAL's expansion,' he added. He also took a swipe at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for skipping the recent NITI Aayog meeting, calling it a missed opportunity to advocate for Karnataka's development. 'It is unfair to blame the Centre when the State fails to represent itself,' Mr. Yaduveer said. He noted that the Chief Minister has already faced criticism for his absence at the key policy forum.

Yaduveer declines to be brand ambassador for Mysore Sandal

MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has declined to be the brand ambassador for Mysore Sandal even as an online campaign was launched demanding that he be made the face of the century-old product. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Mr. Yaduveer said as an MP he would do everything to promote Karnataka but it will not be appropriate for him to take up commercial promotion of products. His remarks have come in the backdrop of growing opposition to the appointment of actor Tamannaah Bhatia as the new face of the iconic brand. Mr. Yaduveer said he had opposed the choice of Ms. Bhatia as the brand ambassador on the grounds that Mysore Sandal is a Karnataka product and pride of Kannadigas. Hence, the brand ambassador should also be from Karnataka, he added. Referring to the government's justification that it wanted to promote the product across India, Mr. Yadueer said there were any number of stars from the film industry, sports, etc, who were known and recognised all over India and they could be selected. 'Besides, it need not only be a woman,' he added. The recent appointment of Tamannaah Bhatia, who hails from outside Karnataka, sparked online campaigns demanding that Mr. Yaduveer himself be made the brand ambassador. However, he clarified that while he supports promoting Karnataka's culture and identity, he is not interested in doing so for commercial purposes. Countering the argument that a non-Kannadiga was chosen to promote the product in North India, Mr. Yaduveer said there are people of Karnataka from the film industry, sports, and other fields who are known across India. In response to a question, Mr. Yaduveer said even actor Ramaya who belongs to the Congress has opposed the move and hence the State government should reconsider its decision.

Yaduveer flays choice of Tamannaah Bhatia as brand ambassador for Mysore Sandal

The controversy surrounding the appointment of actress Tamannaah Bhatia as the brand ambassador of Mysore Sandal soap has further escalated with MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, who is also the scion of the erstwhile royal family, expressing his indignation over it. The decision of the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) to appoint Ms. Bhatia as the brand ambassador triggered protests, with activists questioning the need for a non-Kannadiga actress to promote the product, which is a household name in Karnataka. Mr. Yaduveer said the decision of the government defied logic and was not only irresponsible but also insensitive. Mr. Yaduveer, who described KSDL as a legacy institution, said it was established in 1916 by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and is a source pride for Karnataka and its people. 'Mysore Sandal Soap is not just a product; it is a part of our cultural identity and household heritage, especially for Kannadigas, who have supported and used these products for decades,' said Mr. Yaduveer in a post on X. To now appoint a non-Kannada actress as the face of this historic brand and to reportedly pay her over ₹6 crore is nothing short of unacceptable, he said, pointing out that if appointing a brand ambassador was indeed a necessity, talented Kannada artists who reflect the spirit and pride of Karnataka could have been chosen, Mr. Yaduveer added. 'After failing to deliver on its guarantee schemes and withholding thousands of crores from the people, the Congress government must now refrain from appointing a non-Kannada actress as the brand ambassador. I strongly urge the State government to immediately cancel this appointment and save ₹6.2 crore of public money,' Mr. Yaduveer said.
