"Superman" Crosses $400 Million at Global Box Office
Yara Sameh 'Superman,' the newly rebooted comic book adventure starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, continues to rule the worldwide box office, reaching $406 million after two weekends of release. Those ticket sales include $171.8 million overseas and $235 million from the North American market. Turnout remains slower than expected at the international box office, where 'Superman' added $45.2 million in its second weekend. Outsized global appeal is vital because the comic book reboot has the lofty goal of launching a new phase of superhero movies for the Warner Bros.-backed DC Studios. Two interconnected spinoffs, 'Supergirl' and 'Clayface,' will land in 2026, while a new 'Wonder Woman' movie is in the works. Furthermore, 'Superman' will face steep competition next weekend as another comic book adventure, Disney and Marvel's 'The Fantastic Four,' opens in theaters. Meanwhile, Universal's 'Jurassic World Rebirth' had another huge showing with $40.2 million from 82 overseas territories in its third weekend of release. So far, the prehistoric tentpole has earned a towering $371 million internationally and $647 million globally. The dinosaur reboot, starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, is one of only three Hollywood films to surpass the $600 million mark this year, the others being 'Lilo & Stitch' ($1.008 billion) and 'A Minecraft Movie' ($955 million). However, the latest 'Jurassic' has T-rex-sized footprints to fill at the box office since the prior sequel trilogy, led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, each grossed $1 billion globally. In terms of newcomers, Paramount's animated 'Smurfs' musical collected $22.6 million from 58 markets. Along with a domestic debut of $11 million, the family film has earned $36 million worldwide to date. It's an underwhelming start for the $58 million-budgeted film, which will likely drive consumer product sales even if the film fails to launch a new cinematic universe. Top-earning territories include France ($3.7 million), the United Kingdom ($1.7 million), and Brazil ($1.6 million). Rihanna leads the voice cast of 'Smurfs' as Smurfette alongside the sprawling ensemble of James Corden, Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Octavia Spencer, and John Goodman. Another new release, Sony's R-rated 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' launched to $11.6 million from 58 markets. The slasher sequel, which brought together the stars of the original 1998 film, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, with newcomers Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui-Wonders, debuted in North America with $13 million for a global start of $24.6 million. Although nostalgia isn't as strong as Sony might have expected when rebooting the decades-old franchise, the studio spent a modest $18 million to produce the film, meaning there isn't a high bar to clear in terms of profitability. In another box office milestone, Apple's 'F1: The Movie' has revved past the $450 million mark globally. So far, the $250 million-budgeted film has collected a huge $307.2 million internationally and $460.8 million worldwide. At this point, 'F1' has earned more in just overseas markets than any of Apple's prior movies — including Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon' ($158 million worldwide) and Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon' ($221 million) — have generated in their entire global box office runs. Extremely Hot, Humid Weather Hits Egypt on Monday, Cairo 37°C
Yara Sameh The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) predicts extremely hot and humid weather will prevail in most of the country during Monday's daylight hours. Hot and humid weather is also expected to hit the North Coast. The weather will seem hotter due to the high humidity levels, which will push up the heat index 2-4 degrees. The country will also witness mist on agricultural and highway roads from the north of the country to Cairo. Meteorologist also predicts that Egypt will experience a gradual rise in temperature. Wind will occur occasionally in the North Coast and South Sinai at the interment periods. Furthermore, the Mediterranean Sea will experience moderate waves ranging between 1.25 and 1.75 meters in height, with northwest surface winds. The Red Sea will experience low to moderate waves, ranging between 1.25 and 2 meters in height, with northeast surface winds. Moderately hot and humid weather is also expected to prevail in Egypt at night and in the early hours. Korea Culture Week 2025 Draws Great Turnout
Yara Sameh - Ali Abo Deshish The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Egypt brought the curtain down on Korea Culture Week 2025 with a spectacular closing ceremony held at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC). It amis to enhance cultural and civilizational exchange between Egypt and South Korea. The annual event provided a unique platform that combined elements of Korean heritage and contemporary arts. The highlight of the evening was the Egyptian Preliminary Round of the renowned K-Pop World Festival, where rising talents competed for a chance to represent Egypt at the global finals in Changwon, South Korea. Egyptian performers captivated the audience with their dynamic, high-energy dance routines, expressing their deep admiration and passion for K-Pop idols. Out of 5 performance groups, the winners of the competition 1st Place The Groove, 2nd Place Hams Mohamed and 3rd Place Angster earned top honors and will be qualified for participation in the global finals, co-hosted in October by Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). The ceremony opened with captivating performances by graduates of the K-Pop and Gugak (traditional Korean music) academies, which were held earlier last month at the Academy of Arts. Their performances reflected the growing cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Egypt and Korea. Throughout the week, the KCC organized a rich program of events, including traditional and contemporary Korean music performances, a vibrant hanbok (traditional Korean attire) exhibition, hands-on workshops, and an engaging display of traditional Korean musical instruments. Visitors of all ages enjoyed hanbok try-on experiences and captured memorable moments in photos while wearing the colorful garments. The exhibition was curated by renowned Korean designer Kim Ji-Eun, who also led a popular workshop on hanbok accessory design that welcomed around 300 participants. Audiences also explored the 'Korean Culture Boxes' – a traveling showcase featuring miniature exhibits of Korean life, including traditional housing, hangeul (the Korean alphabet), and various cultural artifacts, offering an interactive cultural experience. Meanwhile, the KCC launched the K-Comics World Exhibition, marking Egypt as the first international stop. The exhibition features the globally acclaimed webtoon Hellbound, ahead of its next destinations in Canada, China, Hungary, and Japan. The exhibition will remain open to the public at the Korean Cultural Center in Cairo until the end of July. "Tron: Ares" Drops Trailer
Yara Sameh Ahead of the movie's big splash at San Diego Comic-Con next week in Hall H, Disney has dropped a new trailer for "Tron: Ares," the third film in the 'Tron' franchise after the 1982 original and the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy.' Jared Leto leads the film, which includes original star Jeff Bridges back as Kevin Flynn. Leto plays Ares, one of the programs from the digital universe who is tasked to enter the real world. The cast also includes Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson. Notably, Peters plays Julian Dillinger, who shares a last name with David Warner's Ed Dillinger, the villain from the first film. Nine Inch Nails, the industrial rock and electronica band founded by Trent Reznor and joined in 2016 by frequent collaborator Atticus Ross, are scoring the film. Reznor and Ross have won Oscars for their scores for 2010's 'The Social Network' and 2020's 'Soul.' They also won Grammys for their soundtracks to 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' and 'Soul.' Most recently, they scored Luca Guadagnino's hit tennis film 'Challengers.' Latifa Releases Second Part of New Album "Albi Ertah"
Yara Sameh Tunisian superstar, Latifa has released the second part of her new album 'Albi Ertah'. The second patch of the album consists of "Tslamli," "Hawina Hawina," "Akhbarak Eh," "Qabl Ma Teb'ed," and "Kada Aliya El Haneen." It consists of 14 songs that will be released gradually on digital music platforms. "Albi Ertah" marks a new milestone in the making of music in the Arab world for it is the first work to be created entirely with Dolby Atmos, an advanced surround sound technology that gives listeners a three-dimensional audio experience. In a previous statement, Latifa described the album to be 'Completely different' from her previous work. "The album is completely different from all my previous work, whether in terms of arrangement, lyrics, or composition," Latifa said. "It contains new and innovative musical styles that keep pace with global musical developments,". "The songs range from joy and pain, nostalgia and sadness, to wounds—real emotions I experienced and touched throughout my artistic and humanitarian career," she added. Latifa released her latest album, 'Mafesh Mamnoo' in June 2024, which won the Album of the Year at the 2024 DIAFA Awards. The album consists of 10 songs and features Latifa cooperating with a large number of poets and composers, including Mahmoud Anwar, Omar El-Masry, Samer Abo Taleb, and Walid Saad.
