"Lilo & Stitch" Becomes First 2025 Title to Hit $1 Billion Globally

Yara Sameh Disney's live-action 'Lilo & Stitch' remake is the year's first Hollywood pic to hit $1 billion at the worldwide box office. After eight weekends in theaters, the family comedy has grossed $416.1 million in North America and $584.8 million internationally for a global tally of $1.001 billion. China's blockbuster 'Ne Zha 2,' however, remains by far the biggest film of 2025 with $1.899 billion in the bank. Originally planned as a straight-to-streaming release, 'Lilo & Stitch' is the latest example of the outsized returns that Disney can mine from theatrical with the right property at the right time. 'Moana 2' was also developed for Disney+, as a television show, and became a billion-dollar box office smash last Thanksgiving after the studio first released the animated sequel to the big screen. With those achievements, Walt Disney Studios has released four billion-dollar films in the past 13 months alone, including Marvel's 'Deadpool & Wolverine' and Pixar's 'Inside Out 2.' 'We knew there was a lot of love for 'Lilo & Stitch' with audiences around the world, yet we never take that for granted, and we're proud of how this new film has connected with people,' Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said. 'I'm thankful to our filmmakers, our cast and all on our studio team who have made this film such a success, and we look forward to more adventures with these characters ahead.' 'Lilo & Stitch' debuted in late May to $183 million domestically and $341 million globally in four days, setting the biggest Memorial Day weekend debut in history. It remained No. 1 for three consecutive weekends and became one of only two films this year (the Warner Bros. video game adaptation 'A Minecraft Movie' is the other) to surpass $400 million at this domestic box office. At one point, 'Minecraft' was poised to be the year's first billion-dollar blockbuster but the tentpole ended up falling just short of that milestone with $955 million worldwide. In the case of 'Lilo & Stitch,' top international territories include Mexico ($67 million), the United Kingdom ($49 million), and France ($42.5 million). Though 23 years have passed since the 2002's animated 'Lilo & Stitch' arrived in theaters, the character has never waned in popularity on the shelves of toy stores. In 2024, Disney sold $2.6 billion in consumer products featuring the 'Lilo & Stitch' duo. Now that a whole new generation has been introduced to the mischievous agent of chaos, merchandise sales are likely to keep soaring through the holiday season. Then there's Disney+ viewership, which has grown significantly every year on the streaming service, according to studio insiders. The franchise, which includes several direct-to-video movies and television shows, has driven more than 680 million hours of streams, with the original film accounting for more than 280 hours. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and produced by Rideback, 'Lilo & Stitch' follows an adorable blue extraterrestrial creature who crash-lands in Hawaii and gets adopted by a young girl and her older sister. Disney already announced a live-action sequel is in the works, so get ready for more Stitch mayhem. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language

Marvel Adds Possible Fourth Movie to 2028 Slate

Yara Sameh Disney announced on Wednesday that Marvel Studios is scheduled to release an untitled movie on December 15, 2028. It would be the fourth movie from the division set for that calendar year, with previously announced films scheduled for release in February, May, and November of 2028. Should all four films hold onto those dates — which is not nearly certain — it would be an unexpected move for the studio, given Disney CEO Bob Iger's recent public admission that Marvel 'lost a little focus by making too much.' 'We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more,' Iger said during an investor call in May. 'We've also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we've all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality.' It is quite unclear, however, whether Marvel will release four films in 2028. Disney has a history of holding onto release dates for feature projects well past when those films could realistically make those dates to ensure they remain available for other films from the company: Marvel's 'Blade' was removed from its November 2025 release date only after Disney was ready to slot the 20th Century Studios film 'Predator: Badlands' in its place. For 2026 and 2027, Marvel has significantly winnowed its feature slate. After 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' opens in July, the studio is producing two films in 2026 — 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' (a co-production with Sony Pictures) in July and 'Avengers: Doomsday' in December; and two films in 2027 — an untitled project in July and 'Avengers: Secret Wars' in December. 'Secret Wars' is meant to be the finale of the Multiverse Saga, after which Marvel is expected to pivot to a saga centered around characters inherited in Disney's 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox: the X-Men. 'Thunderbolts*' director Jake Schreier has been tapped to helm the MCU's first mutant movie (although many actors from Fox's 'X-Men' movies in the 2000s, including Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, will appear in 'Doomsday'). Other Marvel projects in development that could wind up opening in 2028 include the aforementioned 'Blade,' 'Black Panther 3,' and a 'Fantastic Four' sequel. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Marvel's"Avengers: Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars" Delayed

Yara Sameh Disney has delayed the release of Marvel Studios' upcoming team-up features 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars.' 'Doomsday' is now set to debut on December 18, 2026, moving about seven months off of its originally slated date of May 1, 2026. To match, the follow-up 'Avengers: Secret Wars' is moving its release to December 17, 2027, after previously being set for May 7, 2027. Disney announced both 'Avengers' delays Thursday afternoon, alongside a sweeping reorganization of its coming theatrical slate. Notably, the new calendar saw the studio remove several unannounced Marvel titles off of its calendar. The date of February 13, 2026, previously slotted for an 'Untitled Marvel' project, has been removed from the schedule. Meanwhile, the dates of Novemberv 6, 2026 and November 5, 2027 — also both previously set for 'Untitled Marvel' features — have been amended to simply 'Untitled Disney' films. With those changes, 'Avengers: Doomsday' and Sony's 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' are now the only Marvel Cinematic Universe entries slated to hit theaters in 2026. Moreover, the new pre-holiday December frame for both 'Avengers' installments is the same one that 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' launched on in 2021, which became one of the franchise's highest-grossing installments at $1.9 billion worldwide. Additionally, there is now no theatrical Marvel feature slated to release between 'The Fantastic 4: First Steps' on July 25 and the fourth Tom Holland 'Spider-Man' installment on July 31, 2026 — more than a year later. It'll be the MCU's biggest gap between feature films since the COVID era gap between 2019's 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' and 2021's 'Black Widow.' Disney has kept a few flags planted on 2028 dates for 'Untitled Marvel' features: February 18, May 5 and November 10. Marvel Studios has also previously announced titles like 'Armor Wars' and 'Blade,' though neither film project currently has an official release date. The notable decrease in theatrical Marvel features on the immediate horizon aligns with Disney CEO Bob Iger's strategy for the company's superhero features. During an investor call, Iger shared that Marvel Studios had 'lost a little focus by making too much' between its tentpoles and various Disney+ series. He continued, 'By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality.' 'Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars' are both massive productions for Marvel Studios, featuring a sprawling cast that includes the MCU return of Robert Downey Jr. — this time playing the villainous Doctor Doom — as well as superhero teams from the 'Thunderbolts*' and 'Fantastic 4: First Steps' movies, and even reprisals from the 'X-Men' franchise, like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. 'Doomsday' production has ramped up in recent weeks, with Downey sharing a photograph of himself and other cast members rolling out to see 'Thunderbolts*' to support their Marvel peers. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

Disney Hits Pause on "Tangled" Live-Action Movie

Yara Sameh Disney has paused development the live-action version of the 2010 animated hit 'Tangled', according to sources. The story based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of Rapunzel was in active development with Michael Gracey, director of 'The Greatest Showman,' slated to direct. 'Thor: Love and Thunder' scribe Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was on board to write the script. The decision comes amid Disney's release of 'Snow White,' which has grossed a tepid $69 million to date domestically and $145 million worldwide. It's not clear whether there is a possiblity of reviving the live-action version of 'Tangled' at some point in the future. Disney will continue to mine its animated library with two upcoming titles, 'Lilo and Stitch,' due May 23, and 'Moana,' opening July 10, 2026. 'Moana' comes with the advantage of being fresh in the audience's mind, since the animated sequel 'Moana 2' proved to be a blockbuster last November. Meanwhile the appetite for 'Lilo and Stich' appears to be strong. The 'Lilo and Stich' spot with Stitch crashing the Super Bowl field, racked up huge numbers, becoming Disney's most viewed spot digitally, while the March trailer release became the second-most viewed Disney live-action trailer of all time in the first 24 hours of release. 'Tangled' made nearly $600 million worldwide during its 2010-2011 release, and was nominated for an Oscar for original song. With an 89% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, it was a hit with both families and critics. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 ..
