Deepika Padukone was first choice for this blockbuster of Ranbir Kapoor, made for Rs 60 crore, film earned Rs 108 crore, film is..., lea actress was... In the world of cinema, many pictures come and go, but every once in a while, there comes a picture that strikes all the right chords and leaves an impact like no other. However, behind this blockbuster is often a tale that never comes out in the limelight. One such story is of a film that hit the theatres in 2011, and even after 14 years of its release, the buzz around it hasn't faded. But what's unknown to the audience is that the star cast of this picture wasn't the one that the filmmaker imagined initially. However, eventually it went to the star whose fate was destined for it. The film we are talking about is none other than Rockstar. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, this film was released in 2011 and starred blockbuster star Ranbir Kapoor and actress Nargis Fakhri. The film turned out to be a career-defining one for Ranbir Kapoor and also propelled Nargis Fakhri to great success. Made on Rs. 60 crores, this Imtiaz Ali collected Rs. 108 crores, more than double its budget. The film revolved around the plot of a young man, Jordan, portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor, whose heartbreak turned him into a rebel and made out a rockstar. From the tragic love to A.R. Rahman's impeccable music and the impressive performance of the leads, this film is the most celebrated. However, what's interesting is that the lead of this film, Nargis Fakhri, was not the first choice of filmmakers. It was Deepika Padukone who was originally in Imtiaz Ali's mind initially. He had full conviction that Deepika would be able to transcend the right emotions that film requires. But because of production delays and changing scenarios, it eventually went to Nargis. But despite Nargis's debut, she did an incredible job and won the hearts of million. Her performance is still praised and resonates with the audience today. Ranbir and Nargis's on-screen chemistry turned out to be massively successful, and even today, people hail this duo's union. However, despite that, fans still wonder how the picture would have turned out if Deepika had taken the role,, considering the off-screen relationship of Deepika and Ranbir. Interestingly, Rockstar wasn't the only successful collaboration between Ranbir and Deepika. They have starred together in Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), and Tamasha (2015), all of them making a mark at the box office and being the most beloved paring for fans. Even after 14 years of the film, Rockstar continues to shine in its legacy and resonate with the audience Its story is proof that whatever is written in one's fate, it will find its way.

Not Nargis, Deepika Padukone Was Imtiaz's First Choice For Ranbir's Rockstar; Know Why
Last Updated: On his personal blog in 2019, Imtiaz recalled their first meeting and how convinced he was that Deepika Padukone was perfect for the role of Heer. Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone may have parted ways personally, but their on-screen chemistry continues to be cherished by Bollywood fans. From Bachna Ae Haseeno to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Tamasha, their pair has delivered hits that left lasting impressions. But did you know that Deepika was also supposed to be Ranbir's 'Heer' in Rockstar? Yes, Imtiaz Ali, who directed the 2011 cult film Rockstar, had originally envisioned Deepika as the female lead. On his personal blog in 2019, Imtiaz recalled their first meeting and how convinced he was that she was perfect for the role. 'She got off the car at the hotel porch and looked at me. I immediately knew that this is the girl I have come to meet. She also immediately knew that I am the director she had come to meet because she had those eyes, that looked as if they know," he wrote. He continued, 'None of Deepika's movies had released till then. I had come to meet her for Rockstar. I wanted her for Rockstar, but the movie did not get made till many years later. I worked with her in other movies. Many things happened over many years at many places, all of which I might forget, but I will never forget the girl who stepped out of the car at the hotel and looked at me as if she knew." Eventually, the role of Heer Kaul went to Nargis Fakhri, who made her debut opposite Ranbir's intense and transformative portrayal of Jordan. Despite criticism of Nargis' inexperience, Rockstar became a landmark film in Ranbir's career and is considered one of his finest performances. As for Deepika and Imtiaz, they went on to collaborate on Love Aaj Kal (2009) and Tamasha (2015). They also worked together on Cocktail (2012), where Imtiaz wrote the screenplay while Homi Adajania directed. Despite missing out on Rockstar, Deepika carved her own space in the industry with powerhouse performances in multiple hits. First Published:

DYK: Deepika Padukone was the first choice for THIS Ranbir Kapoor cult classic?
Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor's personal history aside, the two without a doubt, do make one of the most sought-after on-screen couples. And over the years they've done their bit for the audience, leading films Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) and Tamasha (2015), each quite the blockbuster. That being said, this duo was the OG vision for a fourth film — an Imtiaz Ali directorial. The film in question is none other than 2011 release Rockstar. On his website blog back in 2019, he had revealed how Deepika was actually his first choice for the film's female lead. Excerpts read, "She got off the car at the hotel porch and looked at me. I immediately knew that this is the girl I have come to meet. She also immediately knew that I am the director she had come to meet because she had those eyes, that looked as if they know". Imtiaz continued, "None of Deepika's movies had released till then. I had come to meet her for Rockstar. I wanted her for Rockstar, but the movie did not get made till many years later. I worked with her in other movies. Many things happened over many years at many places, all of which I might forget, but I will never forget the girl who stepped out of the car at the hotel and looked at me as if she knew". The gig of course, eventually went to Nargis Fakhri, who made her debut as Heer Kaul opposite Ranbir's Jordan. Despite fans' persisting reservations about Nargis' lack of exposure in acting potentially taking away from the final impact of the film, Rockstar is still, very much a cult classic and is counted among Ranbir's best performances. As far as Deepika and Imtiaz go, the two have collaborated on multiple occasions through the years — namely in Love Aaj Kal (2009) and Tamasha (2015). The duo have also collaborated on Deepika's breakout film, Cocktail (2012), which was directed by Homi Adajania, though the screenplay was penned by Imtiaz. Coming back to Deepika and Ranbir, would you like to see them on screen once again?

5 Bollywood separations that shattered fairy-tale romances: Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone to Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor
Bollywood has countless fairytale romances for its audiences. Not just on-screen but even their off-screen dating made us manifest a relationship like that. However, several celebs who once gave major couple goals ended in heartbreak, leaving all shocked and saddened. From Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone to Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, here's a look at some star-studded couples whose real-life romances couldn't bloom into lasting relationships. 1. Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone Duration: 2007-2010 Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were once the most sizzling couple in the Bollywood industry. They were in a relationship for a few years after first meeting on the sets of Bachna Ae Haseeno. Deepika went to the extent of getting Ranbir's initials, 'RK', tattooed on the nape of her neck to show her love for him. Their chemistry, not just off-screen but even on-screen, was top-notch as seen in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. However, their relationship hit a rough patch, and the duo called it quits. Earlier, on Koffee With Karan, the actress opened up about her breakup with Ranbir and shared, 'It was very, very difficult for me because somewhere that relationship became my world.' She further added, 'That relationship really taught me a lot when it ended. It's made me a better person today. He says it himself.' Deepika Padukone is now happily married to Ranveer Singh, while Ranbir Kapoor tied the knot to Alia Bhatt. 2. Shahid Kapoor - Kareena Kapoor Duration: 2004-2007 Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were the fans' favorite Bollywood jodi. Their on-screen and off-screen romance once grabbed headlines. They worked together in Fida, 36 China Town, Chup Chup Ke, and Jab We Met. Just before the release of Jab We Met, the reports of their breakup started making the rounds. Ironically, their pairing was most praised in that film. During an episode of Koffee With Karan, KJo revealed that when Kareena was dating Shahid, she became a vegetarian and even gained weight to show the effects of a healthy vegetarian lifestyle. She even became quite spiritual during that period. In an interview with Anil Thakraney in 2007, the Singham Again actress brushed off the idea that Shahid was 'lonely and depressed' after their breakup. She shared that he appeared surrounded by female co-stars enjoying their attention. Shahid Kapoor is now happily married to Mira Rajput, while Kareena Kapoor is married to Saif Ali Khan. 3. John Abraham - Bipasha Basu Duration: 2002-2011 John Abraham and Bipasha Basu began dating during the filming of the movie Jism. They dated for almost 10 years and made red-carpet appearances together. They even spoke about marriage in several interviews and appeared to be an inseparable couple. However, their breakup came as quite a shock for their fans. Though the exact reason for their break-up is unknown, Bipasha once told Times Of India, 'Though no break-up is a good break-up, time heals everything, including broken friendships. But cheating, infidelity, and deceit are generally tough to forgive, and in those cases, real friendship is not possible.' John Abraham soon married investment banker Priya Runchal shortly after their breakup. Bipasha Basu later tied the knot with Karan Singh Grover. 4. Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan Duration: 2000-2014 Bollywood's Greek God Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan were one of the most adored couples of the industry. They have always been seen supporting each other through thick and thin. They were married for 13 years and share two sons, Hrehaan and Hridaan. However, their marriage hit a rough patch, and they went for a divorce. Though the exact reason behind their divorce is not known, Hrithik's father, Rakesh Roshan, once hinted that a misunderstanding caused their separation. In a chat with Yuvaa, he shared, 'They were the ones who fell in love, they were the ones who had a misunderstanding, and they have to solve it. For us, she came to our house, and she is still a member of the house.' The duo moved on in their lives. Hrithik Roshan is currently dating Saba Azad, while Sussanne Khan is in a relationship with Arslan Goni. 5. Nargis Fakhri and Uday Chopra Duration: 2013 - 2017 Nargis Fakhri and Uday Chopra were in a relationship for approximately five years. They often denied dating rumors and never made their relationship public during those years. However, their separation came as a shock to everyone, given that they had been in a relationship for 5 years. In an interview with ETimes in 2021, Nargis Fakhri opened up on regretting not making her relationship public. She shared, 'Uday and I dated for 5 years, and he was the most beautiful human I met in India. I never have said this to the press as people told me to keep my relationship quiet, but I regret that because I should have shouted from the mountain tops that I was with such a beautiful soul.' A report in the Times of India also suggested that Uday Chopra ended the relationship via a text message, leading to Nargis's sudden departure to New York. Though these star-studded couples got separated, their stories continue to spark conversations and tug at heartstrings. Fans may never forget the magic they created together, both on-screen and in real life, proving that even in glitzy B-Town, love doesn't always guarantee a happily-ever-after.
