Gujarat: Yoga camp held in Vadodara ahead of International Yoga Day

Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], June 10 (ANI): A yoga camp was held at Navlakhi Ground in Vadodara ahead of International Yoga Day, drawing participation from over one lakh people on Tuesday, according to officials. The event was jointly organised by the Gujarat State Yoga Board and Vadodara Municipal Corporation to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga. The event, which took place as a precursor to the celebrations on June 21, saw enthusiastic participation from people of all age groups who practised various yoga asanas together in the open. Chairman of the Gujarat State Yoga Board, Shishpal Rajput, addressed the gathering and emphasised the growing importance of yoga in modern life. 'The trend of people towards yoga is increasing across the country. Everyone is becoming healthy. Even after having a reputation for money, a person has stress, depression, sleep issues, diabetes and obesity. They feel that apart from financial health, physical health is very important. Mental health is very important and it will be achieved through yoga. There is no other way but yoga,' he said. He further added, 'So today you have seen that there was a Mahakumbh of Yoga in the city of Vadodara, and similar programs are taking place in all our districts of Gujarat.' The River Fund program will be held in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, where the Gujarat Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, will participate. Similar yoga camps have been planned in various districts of Gujarat in the coming days. The event served as a major build-up to the International Yoga Day celebrations, which will be marked across Gujarat and India on June 21. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to mark celebrations for the International Yoga Day, scheduled to be celebrated on June 21 in Andhra Pradesh. In a post on X, the Prime Minister expressed happiness at witnessing people's enthusiasm ahead of the Yoga Day celebrations and said that 'Yogandhra 2025' was a commendable effort to popularise the ancient practice. 'Gladdening to see enthusiasm building up towards Yoga Day 2025. #Yogandhra2025 is a commendable effort by the people of AP to make Yoga popular. I look forward to marking Yoga Day in AP on the 21st,' PM Modi said.'I call upon all of you to mark Yoga Day and also make Yoga a regular part of your lives,' he added. The Prime Minister was responding to a post by Union Minister of State (MoS) Health Prataprao Jadhav, who posted on X, 'Over 2,000 yoga enthusiasts gathered at the majestic Puligundu Twin Hills near Chittoor for Yogandhra 2025, a powerful and peaceful kickoff to Andhra Pradesh's month-long lead-up to IDY2025. Surrounded by 1,000-ft rock formations, the energy was as grounded as it was uplifting.' This year's International Yoga Day is set to be a grand celebration, with Visakhapatnam hosting a record-breaking yoga event. On June 21, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the celebrations, which will feature over 2.5 lakh people performing yoga together at a single location -- an attempt to set a new world record. The grand event will take place along the 27-kilometre-long coastal road of Visakhapatnam, which will serve as the venue for this massive yoga session. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is also expected to join PM Modi for the yoga performance.(ANI)

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): As part of the International Day of Yoga 2025 celebrations, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) is set to organise a special three-day Iyengar Yoga Workshop under the inclusive theme of Yoga Samavesh. The workshop will be held from June 9 to 11, between 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM daily, according to the Ministry of AYUSH. The sessions will be led by renowned Iyengar Yoga teacher Amit Sharma from Lifeyoga Centre, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The workshop will focus on precision in body alignment techniques and enhancing mental wellness, hallmarks of the Iyengar Yoga tradition. Participation is open to scholars and yoga enthusiasts affiliated with AIIA. While highlighting the significance of Yoga Samavesh and the workshop, Prof Manjusha Rajagopala Director, AIIA mentioned that 'Through Yoga Samavesh, AIIA is committed to making yoga accessible to all. This Iyengar Yoga workshop will offer participants the opportunity to experience the therapeutic depth of yoga through structured alignment and mindful discipline.' The initiative underscores AIIA's continuous efforts to promote holistic wellness through authentic and inclusive yoga practices in the run-up to the International Day of Yoga on June 21. Lakhs of people will participate. I request every household in Kurukshetra to participate in this programme...' Numerous initiatives and events are planned around this theme: Coordinated yoga demonstrations at 10,000 locations, aiming for a world record. There will be global partnerships with 10 countries to hold yoga sessions at iconic landmarks, along with the creation of 1,000 yoga parks to promote community participation. Special yoga programmes for differently-abled individuals, senior citizens, children, and marginalised groups will also be there. Yoga meets heritage at Chandragiri Fort

TIRUPATI: The historic and scenic Chandragiri Fort hosted a vibrant Yoga session on Wednesday as part of the Yogandhra 2025 initiative, in the run-up to International Yoga Day on June 21. The event witnessed participation from various officials and citizens, led by District Collector Dr S Venkateswar and Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Nani. Addressing the gathering, Dr Venkateswar stressed the importance of incorporating yoga into everyone's daily routine. Yoga sessions are already being organised at various levels including secretariat and ward levels, with efforts focused on training and creating awareness among the public. 'So far, around eight lakh people have registered for yoga sessions across the district,' he said, highlighting the massive scale of the campaign. The Collector also said that yoga is being promoted at key tourist destinations to both encourage public health and showcase the importance of such heritage sites. The programme at Chandragiri Fort was part of this initiative, successfully combining wellness with tourism promotion. He urged people to maintain discipline in their daily exercise and lifestyle habits through yoga. Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Nani stressed that health is a vital aspect of every citizen's life. 'People are increasingly relying on various medications, which may affect health in the long run. Practicing yoga can help preserve good health naturally,' he said. Nani also shared that steps are underway to develop Chandragiri Fort further with the help of a renowned light and sound show agency, which is expected to boost the site's tourism appeal. The event saw participation from several dignitaries including State Yadava Corporation Chairman G Narasimha Yadav, TUDA Chairman C Divakar Reddy, Joint Collector Shubham Bansal, DRO G Narasimhulu, Tirupati RDO Ram Mohan, Regional Director of Tourism Ramana Prasad, District Tourism Officer Janardhan Reddy and officials from various departments. A large number of women, students and mandal-level officials also took part in the programme, marking it a grand success.

Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 4 (ANI): Ahead of the International Yoga Day, a yoga workshop by the name 'Yoga Vatika: Prakriti aur Shanti Ka Aashiyaana' (Yoga Garden: Shelter of Nature and Peace) was organised in the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University to spread awareness about yoga. The teachers and public representatives of the university performed yoga and inspired the common people to practice yoga. People who attended the event were introduced to different types of yoga asanas and were told the importance of yoga in life. The visuals show the teaching and the non-teaching staff of the university performing yoga in an open ground at the University campus. Bareilly MLC Kunwar Maharaj Singh also participated in the event. Talking to ANI, the MLC said, 'Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced June 21 as the International Yoga Day, people's interest in yoga has increased. A grand programme has been organised by the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University. I was invited to the programme and I am interested in such events.' United Nations announced June 21 as the International Yoga Day on 11 December 2014 after PM Narendra Modi first proposed it in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly. 2025 marks the 11th International Yoga Day, with the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'.
