Op Sindoor inspired by Ahilyabai's principles of self-defence: Yogi
Lucknow: Chief Minister on Sunday said that India's strong retaliation to through was inspired by the principles of self-defence espoused by Maratha ruler Ahilyabai Holkar while protecting the nation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "When under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the brave Indian jawans destroyed the air defence system of Pakistan through Operation Sindoor and compelled the enemy to bow, it was inspired by the actions and principles of self-defence that the Lokmata Ahilyabai espoused during her reign," Yogi said, addressing a programme held in Agra to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, who ruled the Malwa region in the 18th century. "Our armed forces strike back with strength, as seen in surgical and air strikes against terrorism. When Pakistan supports terrorists, our country responds across the border. Our air force even destroyed their air defence system," he said. "The BJP-led double-engine govt is following the path of good governance shown by her (Ahilyabai) in carrying out development and public welfare works, various women empowerment schemes and restoration of temples in Uttar Pradesh," he said. "During the Mughal period, when foreign invaders destroyed and corrupted the symbols of India's identity and faith, especially the temples, Devi Ahilyabai did the great work of their revival two and a half centuries ago," he said. Yogi added that when a society takes inspiration from its national icons, no force can become an obstacle in its path. "Her work for women, craftsmen, artisans, farmers, youth and the cultural heritage of India is unforgettable. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now She renovated many religious places including Puri's Jagannath Temple, Gaya Temple, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Kedarnath Dham, Mahakal Temple, Omkareshwar Temple, Somnath Temple, Bhimashankar Temple and Rameswaram Temple with her personal funds instead of using state assets," he said. Hitting out at the previous govt, Yogi said that earlier some people used to nurture mafias which created problems for law and order. "Some people used to change the name of the degree college built in her (Holkar's) name, but we are honouring her legacy," he said, adding that she lived for only 70 years, but her personality continued to guide and inspire the people. "As a mark of respect, a medical college in Auraiya has been named after Ahilyabai," he said. He praised Devi Ahilyabai's contributions to women and handloom artisans, noting how she brought global recognition to Mahishmati sarees — on the lines of Banarasi sarees.

Who is 1991 batch IPS Rajeev Krishna, UP's 5th acting DGP in a row
Before his appointment to the DGP post, Krishna had the double charge of the directorate general (DG) of vigilance and the recruitment and promotion board. Lucknow: Rajeev Krishna, a 1991 batch IPS officer, has been appointed the acting director general of police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, the fifth in a row. Reacting to the appointment, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the Yogi government for not appointing a permanent DGP. 'UP gets another acting DGP today. While leaving, he (Prashant Kumar) must be thinking about what he got and who kept proving every wrong to be right. If he had been loyal to the Constitution and the law instead of the person, he would at least have got respect in his own eyes,' former chief minister Yadav said in a post on X. 'Now it remains to be seen whether the new person is able to free himself from the web that he has woven in the entire state and deliver justice impartially, or else he too becomes a victim of politics by getting trapped in the same web.' Also Read: Outgoing DGP Prashant Kumar credits Yogi for 'free hand' to deal with mafias, says 'Op Conviction now on' New rules not executed yet In October 2024, the Yogi government framed new rules for the appointment of the state's DGP, virtually enabling the state to have a final say in the appointment of the police chief. Earlier, the Centre had the final say, and the state had to send a list of eligible candidates to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which would recommend the name. However, despite the rules being framed last year, they had not been executed till now. Explaining the delay, sources said state government functionaries were discussing the repercussions of the change in rules with legal experts. Furthermore, the state leadership was trying not to increase its rift with the Centre anymore. In the past few years, there has been a growing confrontation between the Yogi government and the Centre over the selection of the DGP. Former DGP Prashant Kumar was the fourth acting DGP consecutively in the past two years. The last permanent DGP in the state was Mukul Goel, who was removed three years ago on the grounds of indiscipline. Since then, five acting DGPs have been appointed, which also included D.S. Chauhan, R.K. Vishwakarma and Vijay Kumar. SSP Agra—most impactful posting Hailing from Gautam Buddha Nagar, Krishna joined the Indian Police Service in 1991. He has previously been posted as superintendent (SP) and then as senior superintendent (SSP) and has been in Firozabad, Etawah, Mathura, Fatehgarh, Bulandshahr, Noida, Agra, Lucknow and Bareilly. In 2007, when the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) was formed in Uttar Pradesh, Krishna became its first deputy inspector general (DIG) and led the force. Sources in UP police said that, apart from the recruitment board posting, one of the most impactful chapters of Krishna's career was his tenure as SSP Agra in 2004, when he led crackdowns against notorious kidnapping gangs operating in the ravines. Krishna's wife, Meenakshi Singh, is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officer and is currently posted as an income tax commissioner in Lucknow. Additionally, his brother-in-law, Rajeshwar Singh, was a joint director in ED and is now the BJP MLA from Sarojini Nagar assembly segment. Rajeshwar Singh's wife, Laxmi Singh, is Noida police commissioner. (Edited by Sanya Mathur) Also Read: Ex-IAS officer Abhishek Singh's journey from UP secretariat to Cannes. Under rule of law, litigant asimportant as bar, bench: CM
Lucknow: Chief Minister on Saturday said that under the rule of law, a litigant is as important as the bar and the bench. Speaking at the inauguration of the advocate chambers and a parking building on the Allahabad high court premises, the CM recalled a programme addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017 where he emphasised that the first condition of good governance is the rule of law. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The inauguration of the new projects, constructed at a cost of Rs 680 crore, took place in the presence of Chief Justice of India Justice BR Gavai. "Advocates strive for justice even though their working conditions are highly difficult. Many have to operate from broken chambers and even while sitting under trees," Yogi said. "Today is the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar. This is also the Amrit Mahotsav year of the implementation of the Constitution of India. The arrangements made at the court are excellent. Along with multi-level parking, the facility also includes advocate chambers, a cafeteria, a modern kitchen, and conference amenities. This can serve as a new model for infrastructure development," the CM said, adding that funds required for expansion work would be made available soon. He also advocated for putting the multilevel car park to commercial use, citing the example of a multilevel parking in Gorakhpur, built six years ago, which initially failed as its usage was very low. "I suggested that the top two floors be converted into commercial spaces. As soon as this was implemented, the entire complex started getting fully occupied. People who earlier used to park their vehicles on the streets now park inside the complex and enjoy the facilities," he said. Yogi said that when he took over as CM in 2017, at least 10 districts in UP did not have district courts. There were times when either the chief justice or the state govt did not approve the proposed designs. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Eventually, the govt instructed executing agencies to create a model that could serve as a standard where, along with integrated court complexes, provisions for parking and advocate chambers are included. Of the proposals we submitted, approvals have been received for seven districts from here, and Rs 1,700 crore has already been released. The court cases for remaining three districts have also been resolved, and we will provide them with similar facilities in respective districts," the CM said. Speaking about the integrated court complex, the CM said that once in place, it would provide litigants with access to all judicial services under one roof, including chambers and parking for advocates, as well as housing facilities for judicial officers. He also spoke about the initiatives taken by the govt for advocates, underlining the increase in Advocate Fund from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, and the age limit from 60 to 70 years. "A separate corpus fund of Rs 500 crore has also been established which will be used in cases such as an accident involving an advocate. The trustee committee will utilise this fund to support the affected family," he said. He hailed the role of the Allahabad high court in managing the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, which was attended by over 66 crore people. "If everyone fulfils responsibilities in line with the spirit of the Constitution envisioned by Babasaheb BR Ambedkar, meaningful results can be achieved," he said.

QR code-based audio tours at tourist spots to take visitors on immersive digital journey
Lucknow: In a major step to enhance tourist experience and promote cultural heritage, the Yogi govt is set to launch QR code-based audio tour portals and content at 100 key tourist destinations across Uttar Pradesh. "This initiative aims to offer both domestic and international tourists a unique, informative, and immersive journey through the state's rich history, culture and natural beauty. The core feature of the project is the introduction of QR-based audio tours that provide 5 to 7-minute storytelling experiences about the significance of each location," officials said on Saturday. These audio narratives will be available in 10 regional languages—Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, English, Kannada, Odia, and Malayalam—and 5 international languages—French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Mandarin—making the content widely accessible. "To ensure a high-quality experience, the audio stories will be recorded by professional voiceover artists and feature background music and ambient sounds to bring historical and cultural contexts to life. Additionally, the platform will include accessibility features such as multilingual subtitles and high-contrast text for the hearing impaired," they said. This project will cover 100 selected tourist sites like the Triveni Sangam and Anand Bhawan in Prayagraj, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi and Kanak Bhavan in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Ganga Aarti in Varanasi, the Taj Mahal in Agra, Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Banke Bihari Temple in Mathura-Vrindavan, and the Bada Imambara in Lucknow. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo At these locations, weather-resistant QR codes etched on stainless steel will be installed. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Principal secretary Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma has written to chief medical officers (CMOs) and chief medical superintendents (CMSs) to begin preparations and awareness campaigns without delay. "Instructions have been given to ensure that Yoga Day is organised in all district hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres, and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs of the state. A roadmap for organising these events is being prepared in advance to ensure maximum participation," an official spokesperson said on Saturday. Informing the district authorities that the Yoga Day theme for 2025 is "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," the official letter stated: "The aim is to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga for improving overall health and lifestyle. In Uttar Pradesh, regular yoga sessions are already being held at all Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to support people's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. On June 21, special yoga events will be organised at all these locations as part of this ongoing effort. " Sharma further said to help more people take part in International Yoga Day, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will provide general yoga protocol skills to interested participants at the local level. The Ministry of AYUSH, along with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, will also offer online training for yoga instructors. "Coordination should be established with the block/district administration while ensuring active participation of ASHA/ANM, voluntary organisations, and educational institutions at the community level. The message should be disseminated to the public through physical and digital means," he said.
