'We Became World Champions Because...': Yograj Singh Cites How MS Dhoni's Team India Was Better Compared To Shubman Gill's

Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has strongly criticised the fielding standards of the Shubman Gill-led Indian team after KL Rahul dropped a crucial catch on Day 2 of the third Test against England at Lord's. The missed opportunity allowed England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith, who was on just 5 at the time, to go on and score a valuable 56-run knock. India could have easily Bundled England to less than 350 if Rahul caught the catch at that moment. Yograj didn't hold back in expressing his disappointment over India's faltering fielding performance, particularly when it comes to catching. In a pointed and passionate remark, he underscored that despite India's impressive bowling attack, lapses in the field could negate their hard work. 'I have told you many times to hold the catch,' Yograj said, as quoted by IANS. 'Rest, our bowling side is very good, very good. And we will have to tighten our fielding side. We will have to catch catches, otherwise, you cannot survive there.' He also reflected on how players like Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif elevated India's fielding unit in the early 2000s. Their athleticism and commitment to fitness played a pivotal role in lifting the team's overall performance, especially in high-pressure moments. 'When Yuvraj and Kaif came into the Indian team, these two guys changed the whole scenario,' Yograj said. 'Looking at them, the fielding side was very good. And we became world champions because we were very good at fielding. We caught the catches that were not supposed to be caught.' 'We fielded where there were two runs, we gave one. Where there were three runs, we gave one. So these things will come only when you are very fit, have training, and catch 100–200 catches every day,' he added. As the third Test progressed, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a standout performance, taking five wickets for 74 runs to bowl out England for 387 on Day 2, despite Joe Root scoring his 37th Test century. With this spell, Bumrah surpassed Kapil Dev's record of 12 five-wicket hauls in overseas Tests. India finished the Day 2 on 145 losing three wickets, KL Rahul is still on the crease with a gritty fifty.

Yograj Singh Slams India's Fielding After KL's Costly Drop: 'Yuvraj And Kaif...'

Last Updated: India's fielding issues showed in the third Test at Lord's as KL Rahul dropped Jamie Smith, who scored 56. Yograj Singh criticised the team's declining fielding standards. India's fielding issues were highlighted once again during the third Test at Lord's when senior player KL Rahul dropped Jamie Smith when he was on just 5, an error that proved costly as the England wicketkeeper went on to score a determined 56. The missed opportunity has rekindled criticism of India's fielding sharpness, particularly after a series of errors in the first Test at Leeds, where India dropped as many as eight chances. Expressing his frustration, former India all-rounder Yograj Singh did not hold back in his criticism of the team's declining fielding standards, especially the catching. In a heartfelt message delivered with both concern and clarity, he emphasised how India's current bowling success could be jeopardised by poor fielding. 'I have told you many times to hold the catch," Yograj said. 'Rest, our bowling side is very good, very good. And we will have to tighten our fielding side. We will have to catch catches, otherwise, you cannot survive there." When Yograj Gave An Example Of His Son Yuvraj? Recalling historical examples, Yograj mentioned how the arrival of players like Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif revolutionised India's fielding unit in the early 2000s. Their athleticism and sharp presence on the field transformed the team, making a crucial difference in pressure situations. 'When Yuvraj and Kaif came into the Indian team, these two guys changed the whole scenario," Yograj said. 'Looking at them, the fielding side was very good. And we became world champions because we were very good at fielding. We caught the catches that were not supposed to be caught." He continued: 'We fielded where there were two runs, we gave one. Where there were three runs, we gave one. So these things will come only when you are very fit, have training, and catch 100-200 catches every day." Highlighting the importance of fielding drills, Yograj shared insights from his training methods.'I am here in the academy, until you catch 200–300 catches, till then we don't let them bat or bowl." Gautam Gambhir " Ko Kuch Mat Bolo": Yograj Singh's Straightforward Stance On India Coach

India head coach Gautam Gambhir did not boast a great Test record heading into the five-match series against England. Since being appointed, Gambhir oversaw two high-profile Test series losses - 0-3 at home to New Zealand and 1-3 away to Australia. However, despite the retirements of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India have been able to tie the series at 1-1 heading into the third match. At this point, former India cricketer Yograj Singh, the father of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has called for Gambhir to be backed. "The Indian players are consistently growing and improving their game. We will always support them. Gautam Gambhir ko kuch mat bolo (We should not speak about Gautam Gambhir). He is doing well," said Yograj, speaking to ANI. "Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, and Rahul Dravid are giving back to cricket because they have received so much. Even if our team loses the series, we should not demoralise them," Yograj added. "If you lose, you will not be there to explain; if you win, you don't have to explain. We hope that we win the series under the captaincy of Shubman Gill," Yograj stated. India have dominated large parts of both Test matches, ultimately winning the second by 336 runs. It marked Gambhir's second Test win across the last three series (including the ongoing one). Yograj also lauded Team India for coping well despite the retirements of Kohli and Rohit. "It's astonishing that the team has performed the way it has without Virat Kohli, without Rohit Sharma. Well done, boys," Yograj said. Meanwhile, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta outlined key areas India must focus on to carry forward their momentum after levelling the series at Edgbaston against England. "There are three things India must do to win the Lord's Test. First and foremost, consistency. Yes, they have won the last match and levelled the series, but it is far from over. There are still three Tests to go. The level of consistency we saw in both batting and bowling during the second Test - that needs to be repeated," JioStar expert Deep Dasgupta said on Jio Hotstar. "The second thing is to rest properly, because there isn't much time between the two Test matches. Recovery is very important, especially for the fast bowlers, and for captain Shubman Gill, who has played two very long innings," he added. "The third thing that is very important at Lord's is the slope. This is a slightly inexperienced side, and many players will be playing at Lord's for the first time. For both the batters and the bowlers, understanding and adjusting to the slope is going to be a big challenge. Let's hope they find answers to all the challenges and questions," he said. India and England are all set to clash in the third Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, starting July 10 at the Home of Cricket, Lord's.

Yuvraj Singh reveals secrets of Shubman Gill's ‘magic' batting post India captain's 269; ‘He can score more runs'

The secret to Shubman Gill's rich form in England in the ongoing Test series lies in the work the that the Indian captain had done on his top hand, felt former cricketer and Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj Singh. Leading the Indian Test team for the first time in his career, Gill showed no signs of leadership pressure as the right-hander came out with flying colours with 147 (in the first Test in Leeds) and 269 in the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Having scored 650 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gill continued his form in England, with two consecutive hundreds in the longest format of the game. Having started on 114 not out on Day 2, Gill showed tremendous commitment and intent to forge two big partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja (203 runs) and Washington Sundar (144 runs) to set the tone as India posted 587 in the first innings. At a time when Gill was poised to become the first Indian captain with a triple hundred in Tests, a lapse of concentration brought his downfall, thereby missing on a milestone by just 31 runs. 'Gill has worked on his top hand,' Yograj told ANI. 'He has always had an issue regarding his right hand, but I spoke to Yuvi three days ago and he told me, 'Papa, his right-hand issue has improved drastically. He can score more runs. I keep telling him not to get out'. The cover drives he played on the rise, head on top of the ball, he adjusted his right hand. It was perfect. I am told he is batting like magic. Because of the slight changes he is constantly making,' added Yograj, who had a brief international career in the eighties.

Panchkula: Man involved in 11 criminal cases, including murder, nabbed with illegal pistol and live cartridges

The Panchkula police has claimed to have arrested a notorious criminal, Yograj alias Pinky, along with an illegal country-made pistol and five live cartridges. According to police, on June 29, while the detective staff team was patrolling the area, they received a tip-off that Yograj, a resident of village Majra Mehtab, Panchkula, was present near the cremation ground on Rambagh Road, Kalka, and was possibly planning a serious crime while armed. The team launched an operation and apprehended the accused. Upon searching him, the police recovered one illegal pistol and five live rounds. When asked to produce documents for the weapon, the accused failed to provide a valid licence. The weapon was seized on the spot and a case was registered against him under Section 25(1A) of the Arms Act at Kalka Police Station. According to DCP Crime Amit Dahiya, Yograj alias Pinky is a habitual and dangerous offender with 11 serious criminal cases — including charges of murder and assault — registered against him across Kalka, Pinjore, Baddi, and Narayangarh police stations. Police are now actively investigating his possible involvement in the Amravati murder case. Yograj was produced before the court on Monday and has been remanded in four days of police custody. During the remand period, police will interrogate him to determine where and from whom he acquired the illegal weapon, the intended purpose of the firearm, and identify other associates in his criminal network.
