The Legends of Scott Park returned on Saturday afternoon. The community event was designed as a reunion, history lesson and inspiration for today's kids, and it appears all three things were accomplished during the free Family Funday and Youth Football Camp. >>> STREAM ACTION SPORTS JAX 24/7 LIVE <<< The legends partnered with the Inner City Athletic Association to make the afternoon happen. You can see the video and hear from some of the legends. Sports camp company walks back harsh criticism of George Pickens
George Pickens might not have bailed on his youth football camp at the last minute after all. On Friday, TruEdge Sports released a statement via NFL insider Jordan Schultz, walking back their accusation that the Cowboys' wide receiver had pulled out of hosting his youth camp with the company at the last minute. TruEdge said their email to families "mischaracterized (Pickens') intent and actions" and that they never communicated directly with the former Steelers wideout. Instead, the sports camp company is chalking the whole situation up to a miscommunication with Pickens' representatives, which "led to confusion about the camp's status and future direction." "While our frustrations stemmed from the uncertainty surrounding the event, it was never our intention to publicly question George's professionalism, integrity, or commitment to the community," TruEdge's statement read. "We now understand that the tone and implications of our message were not only inappropriate but inconsistent with our values as an organization. "We recognize that he was navigating a significant career transition during this time and that his team kept open lines of communication with us." In their initial email to families who had registered for the George Pickens Youth Football Camp in Pittsburgh, TruEdge Sports wrote that Pickens "decided to walk back on his word and is no longer interested in attending the camp." They went on to say that his decision to back out "not only reflects a disappointing lack of accountability, but also shows a disregard for the families and children who were excited to meet him." In his social media posts releasing the statement, Schultz called the situation a "very overblown narrative." The camp has since been rescheduled to a new date in late July with Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth stepping in as its new host. TruEdge also promised in their initial email that they were in talks with several other Steelers players to make appearances at the camp.

FRISCO - Though he's no longer a member of the Steelers, George Pickens just ran an "out" route on the city of Pittsburgh. Advertisement Pickens, the talented-but-temperamental receiver who was traded to the Dallas Cowboys May 7, long ago agreed to host a youth football camp this summer in Pittsburgh. Immediately after the trade, organizers of his George Pickens Youth Football Camp say they reached out to him to confirm his attendance despite no longer playing for the Steelers. The company, TruEdge, says "we were promptly assured that George remained committed to the camp and intended to show up for the families that registered." But recently - last week, in fact - that apparently changed. The camp was scheduled for Saturday, but Pickens is backing out. The decision has left TruEdge mad, and scrambling to save the event. "We have been notified that George has walked back on his word," TruEdge said in an email to those registered for the camp. The company continues that it is "deeply frustrated" about the "sudden decision" and about Pickens' "disappointing lack of accountability disregard for families and children." The company also organizes summer camps for NFL players Tyrone Tracy of the New York Giants and Calvin Ridley of the Tennessee Titans. Advertisement In response to Pickens' decision, TruEdge has rescheduled the camp for July 20 and recruited Steelers' tight end Pat Freiermuth to host the event. The Cowboys are confident they traded for an elite receiver who will give quarterback Dak Prescott a No. 2 option behind CeeDee Lamb. But, judging by the comments to TruEdge's email, Steelers fans seem happier than ever than to be rid of Pickens' petulant behavior and controversial decision-making. For a player already dealing with a reputation of being selfish and narcissistic, this is a bad look.
