Mukuhlani appointed ACA chairman, eyes Africa T20 League and wider reach for cricket
Harare [Zimbabwe], July 19 (ANI): Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) boss Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been appointed as the new chairman of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA). Mukuhlani had held the post in an acting capacity since November and was formally voted unanimously by all 23 member boards at the ACA's annual general meeting in Singapore on Friday. 'We stand today at the threshold of a new era for African cricket - an era defined by stronger governance, broader opportunity and renewed ambition,' Mukuhlani said in a statement issued by ZC, according to ESPNcricinfo. 'Let us continue building on the progress we have made, united by a common purpose and driven by a shared love for the game,' he added. The ACA, whose membership includes two ICC Full Members, South Africa and Zimbabwe, has just completed a sweeping administrative clean up, adopting a fresh memorandum of incorporation aimed at better governance. Next on its to do list is launching a long planned Africa T20 league, reviving the Afro Asia Cup, and ensuring cricket's presence at the 2027 Africa Games in Egypt. 'These engagements are crucial not only for visibility but also for opening new doors of investment, policy support and continental collaboration,' he said. Mukuhlani has led ZC since 2015, winning three re elections, and currently serves on the ICC's finance and commercial affairs committee. Under his watch ZC clawed its way out of debt, survived a temporary ICC suspension for government interference, and secured a place for the women's team on the Future Tours Programme. The men's side, however, remains outside the World Test Championship (WTC) and missed the last two ODI World Cups as well as the previous T20 World Cup. They do have brighter times ahead as Zimbabwe will co host the 2027 50 over World Cup alongside South Africa and Namibia, and partner Namibia again for the 2026 Under 19 World Cup. (ANI)

Zimbabwe Cricket Icon Mohammed Meman Passes Away At The Age Of 73
Former Zimbabwe off-spinner and team manager Mohammed Ahmed Meman, affectionately known as Babu, passed away at the age of 73 on Wednesday morning in Leicester, after a period of ill health. "Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has learnt with great shock and sadness of the death of former Zimbabwe international cricketer and national team manager Mohammed Ahmed Meman," Zimbabwe Cricket said in a press release. Meman wore Zimbabwe colours during his solitary One-Day International appearance for the country against India during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 1987. During his sole fixture, he scored 19 runs. In his playing days, he also represented Shropshire in England's Minor Counties Championship between 1977 and 1980. During his stint in the county, Babu struck 888 runs, including two centuries and scythed 55 wickets in 32 matches, underlining his quality as a genuine all-rounder. Meman served as Zimbabwe's national team manager between 1992 and 2006, guiding the side through its early years as a Test-playing nation. Beyond his playing days, he also contributed to the game as a selector, helping to shape the national team. "ZC is deeply grateful for Babu's enduring contributions to cricket in our country, both on and off the field. His passion, humility, and dedication will always be remembered by those who had the privilege of working with him," Zimbabwe Cricket said in a press release. "We extend our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, Aisha, and children - Iqbal, Fazila, and Sadiya - as well as to his extended family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace," ZC concluded.

Former Zimbabwe spinner Mohammed Meman passes away at 73 (ANI Photo) Mohammed Ahmed Meman, known fondly as Babu, former Zimbabwe off-spinner and team manager, died at 73 in Leicester following a period of illness. Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) said Prince Masvaure has been named as Bennett's replacement and will mark his 10th appearance in Test cricket. The incident happened when Bennett was struck on the helmet while attempting a hook shot off the final delivery of the sixth over bowled by South Africa fast bowler Kwena Maphaka, and retired hurt. At the time of the incident, Bennett had scored 19 runs off 28 balls, including four boundaries. "Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett will play no further part in the ongoing Test match against South Africa at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo after being diagnosed with a mild concussion. As per concussion protocols, he will take no further part in the match,' said ZC in a statement on Sunday. Coming to the match on day two's play, Zimbabwe are currently at 94/2 in 27 overs, with Sean Williams and skipper Craig Ervine unbeaten on 45 and 24 respectively. In the morning, South Africa declared their innings at 418/9, with teenaged left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius hitting a dazzling 153 on debut while number eight batter Corbin Bosch scored his maiden Test hundred and was unbeaten. At 19 years and 93 days, Pretorius became the youngest South African men's batter to hit a Test century and the seventh from his country to make a hundred on debut in the longer format. After the declaration, South Africa, who won the World Test Championship against Australia at Lord's just two weeks ago, got a dream start with the ball, as debutant pacer Codi Yusuf removed Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Nick Welch, before Williams and Ervine steadied Zimbabwe's ship.
