St Mirren consider swoop for keeper who played for Premiership rivals last season to be their new No1
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ST MIRREN are considering a swoop for Swansea City keeper Andy Fisher. The Buddies were hoping to persuade Middlesborough shot-stopper Zach Hemming to return to Paisley on a permanent deal after two successful loan stints. Now the Saints have had to turn to a list of other potential new number one targets. And SunSport understands Fisher, who spent the second half of last season on loan with relegated St Johnstone, is high on their wishlist. The 27-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers, joined new Rangers boss Russell Martin at Swansea on a four-year deal from MK Dons back in January 2022. With just six months now left on his contract, St Mirren are hoping they can persuade the English goalie, who made 18 appearances in Perth, to make an immediate switch to the Paisley club. The Buddies are also confident they will be able to announce the signing of Richard King in the near future. The Jamaican international has been busy representing his country in crucial World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala and the British Virgin Islands. While the 23-year-old still has three Concacaf Gold Cup group stage matches to tackle later this month, Saints don't foresee any issues with getting international clearance for the highly-rated Cavalier stopper once those games are completed. King will help to fill the gap left by Richard Taylor, who let his contract run down at the end of the season. The 24-year-old defender remains in the hunt for a new club. SunSport revealed earlier this week that the £2million Nordsjaelland attacker was on Brendan Rodgers' wishlist. The Hoops have now made a move but face some stiff competition in the race for the 23-year-old's signature from clubs in the Bundesliga and MLS. ST MIRREN are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this morning after Zach Hemming agreed to join Chesterfield. Having helped them to another top six finish, the Paisley side revealed that they were keen to sign him permanently this summer as they announced their retained list at the end of the Scottish Premiership season. But that decision was essentially taken out of their hands after the Riverside club accepted an offer from Chesterfield instead. Hemming, you will recall, was spotted having a bit of fun at manager Stephen Robinson's expense on a night out at the Premier League darts at the Hydro in Glasgow. Advertisement Tthe TV cameras caught him holding a fun banner with the words 'Robbo Out' as he savoured a laugh with boss Stephen Robinson's son Harry, currently playing at Clyde. Hemming explained: 'The manager was joking about it as his son was at the darts too. 'It was a nice laugh and joke and then I had to do the coffee runs twice in a row!" Hemming spent a chunk of last season playing with a fracture in his FACE. 'Pace up front' & Hemming signing 'a must' - your transfer window priorities
We asked for your views on what St Mirren must do in the transfer window this what some of you said:Douglas: Certainly cover up front, with injuries and loss of form which are commonplace in that part of the team. At least one new face at the back is essential as Richard Taylor overall had a good season and he will be missed if we can't find an equal replacement. The loss of a left-footed midfielder will also be hard to fill, but we have reasonable cover there, however again injuries and age can catch up with you at any point in the season. Yes, a few new faces and permanent deals for a couple of last year's loanees will be We badly need a striker with pace to replace Toyosi We need a centre-half to replace Taylor. If we can't get Ryan Alebiosu signed then a right wing-back would be needed. Also some pace up front I think is important after Olusanya Signing Zach Hemming is a must. He made a huge difference when arriving in January last season and played a key role in us achieving top Saints should take Jadon Sancho on loan. We can make him great again. We have rebuilt other careers, so why not his? The Premiership gets bigger and stronger year on year, so why not make the call?David: We could do with another Olusanya. Someone that is a nuisance to defenders. We signed Owen Oseni in January but I'm not sure he fits the bill. A playmaker in the middle of the park, a solid defender to replace big Taylor and a goalkeeper. Fingers crossed we can get Hemming back. Alebiosu I would take back as well after a successful loan.A: Most of the squad is pretty settled. We could do with another centre-back to replace Richard Taylor, a midfielder to replace Caolan Boyd-Munce, a right wing-back and a speedy centre forward (one that could guarantee 20+ goals a season would be nice). Apart from that more competition for places would also be a bonus.
