Armed robbers hit Menglembu jewellery store, escape with almost RM400,000 loot

IPOH: Armed robbers struck a jewellery store at a shopping centre in Menglembu here and carted away about RM390,000 worth of valuables. Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said a report was lodged at about 1.25pm on Friday (May 9). "The masked robbers, believed to be locals, entered the premises and carted away necklaces and earrings worth about RM390,000. "The suspects were armed with a pistol and a parang. "They sped away in a white-coloured sedan. "No injuries were reported during the incident," he said. ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code. He urged those with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Asst Supt Fadli Ahmad at 019-250 0019. A video of the incident also went viral on social media. In the video, two masked men can be seen grabbing jewellery and putting it into a bag while a female store employee watches on helplessly.

IPOH: A 48-year-old man has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing women's undergarments in Menglembu. Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the unemployed suspect was arrested on Wednesday (May 7) at 11am. ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said this was following a report that was lodged by a 45-year-old woman on Tuesday at about 8.20pm. "We are aware of a closed-circuit television camera footage of the incident that has gone viral on Facebook. "A remand order will be obtained from the Magistrate's Court on Thursday to facilitate investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft," he said when contacted. In the 25-second video, the suspect is shown getting off a motorcycle and snatching five pairs of underwear from a laundry drying rack placed outside the woman's house. "A background check on the suspect found no past criminal record," he said. "The police welcome information from the public on any criminal activities, which can be channelled via the district control centre at 05-254 2222 or any nearest police station," he added.

Abang Zainal Abidin said the complainant had searched the Ipoh area but could not locate his daughter. He also described the girl as fair-skinned and wearing glasses. Anyone with information about the girl is urged to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the Ipoh District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 05-2451500.
