Bleeding HGTV makes sweeping changes in last-ditch attempt to save network amid crisis
HGTV has cancelled seven shows in a bid to cut costs and bring the network into a new era. In recent weeks, the channel has axed Farmhouse Fixer, Izzy Does It, The Flipping El Moussas, Christina on the Coast, Married to Real Estate, Battle on the Beach, and Bargain Block, which has left fans furious. According to Deadline, the bold decision to cull the seven programs was to help free up some money. The publication reports that HGTV home renovation shows can cost up to $500,000 per episode compared to real estate shows, which costs somewhere between $200,000 and $300,000, and can be produced in a shorter period. 'Home reno shows are expensive because all of the materials are jacked up and on delay, the price of wood and marble and everything else is going up so these shows don't make as much sense anymore,' one source told Deadline. On top of budget issues, a producer claimed some talent were being paid up to $100,000 an episode and were 'afraid to say no.' 'They allowed their talent to run amok,' an insider alleged. 'They gave them some form of creative control and that's harming their own shows. They were so afraid of talent they never said no and the shows aren't delivering anymore. 'They kowtowed to talent and now they're suffering the consequences.' Additionally, the publication claimed that HGTV has been struggling with ratings, as well as competition from TikTok stars and other channels. 'I don't know if it's a show thing as much of an audience thing where a lot of people are dropping cable,' another source said. 'There was a time when people would just put on HGTV when they were cleaning.' Daily Mail has contacted HGTV for comment. Despite the bloodbath, HGTV does have new programming on the way. Property Brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott are returning with a brand new show, Chasing the West, which is set to premiere on July 30. The eight-part series will see them help buyers find their dream ranch. Earlier this month, HGTV announced Queer Eye's Bobby Berk will front a new series, Junk or Jackpot, which 'follows collectors as they discover the true monetary value of their massive and unusual collections.' The show is executive produced by John Cena. My Lottery Dream and Zillow Gone Wild both returned to the network this month. My Lottery Dream, hosted by David Bromstad, sees him 'help clients purchase their fantasy homes with their newly attained fortunes.' 'No matter where these lucky buyers want to settle, David won't stop until he finds luxurious properties that deliver every feature on a lottery winner's wish list,' the synopsis teases. Meanwhile, Zillow Gone Wild follows comedian and actor Jack McBrayer as he searches the internet for the weirdest, wackiest and wildest properties on the market inspired by the exceedingly popular Instagram account that touts more than two million followers.

This CT estate was home to a famous songwriter. Its new owner will need to keep it intact
This Connecticut home has appeared on HGTV's Zillow Gone Wild and it sure is unique. The home at 22 Ketcham Road in Ridgefield was owned by Jim Steinman and includes the very piano where he wrote 'I'd Do Anything for Love,' 'Total Eclipse of the Heart,' and Celine Dion's 'It's All Coming Back to Me Now.' Steinman died in April 2021 and left behind the home he lived in for nearly 30 years. Stretching over 1.5 acres and over 6,100 square feet, the 'quaint country cottage' became his 'personal sanctuary where he envisioned and built his masterful home and studio that served to inspire artistic creation and joyful entertaining.' Steinman had commissioned New England architect Rob Bramhall to do the work on the home. Listed for $5 million, the 2 bedroom, 4 bathroom home is filled with Steinman's possessions. According to its listing, Steinman 'spent over $6 million in the construction alone and his divine collections are truly priceless.' Interested buyers will have access to an art catalogue listing all of the pieces included in the sale. One of the most unique parts of the sale, though, is that according to its listing, 'the sum total of the individual components in this offering is believed to far exceed the list price, but the intention is to honor Jim by keeping his sanctuary intact.' This new CT restaurant has a robot waitress. (really) But it's the food bringing in customers. To honor Steinman's legacy, the estate's intention is to 'find the next custodian who will be enthralled by the transformative power of Jim's home and art.' It is listed by Laura Ancona of William Pitt – Julia B. Fee Sotheby's International. Solve the daily Crossword

Jack McBrayer Spills on Famous Friends Alexander Skarsgard and Gavin Rossdale (Exclusive)
The Zillow Gone Wild host reveals what Skarsgard is really like after "he's always cast as an abusive husband or Tarzan," before sharing why he sent Rossdale an invoice after spending the holidays together. While best known for his work at Kenneth Parcell on 30 Rock and voicing Fix-It Felix in the Wreck-It Ralph film, Jack McBrayer is also known for having some pretty random, famous friends. The actor, comedian and current host of HGTV's Zillow Gone Wild has made headlines for his apparently unlikely friendships with both Alexander Skarsgard and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. While it's unclear how he met the rocker, McBrayer said he and Skarsgard were neighbors in Los Angeles and hit it off at award shows while representing their respective series, 30 Rock and True Blood. After being buds for more than a decade, attending award shows and starring in a Funny of Die sketch together, the two finally acted in something a bit more substantial this year for AppleTV+'s Murderbot. On the show, Skarsgard plays a robot who gains free will -- and becomes obsessed with the soapy show-within-a-show The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon, on which McBrayer has a role as a navigation officer. "If you ever get an opportunity to do a TV show with your best friend, just do it. Just say yes," McBrayer told TooFab of his Murderbot cameos. "But of course this is all his doing, where he was in the process where they were developing the show, writing the episodes and he was like, 'Oh, and you should have Jack McBrayer be in it too,' and so they were like, 'Okay!'" Eventually, the two were even able to share the screen together on the series, thanks to a hallucination. "It was so fun!" he continued. "Our wigs, our costumes. He's a big goofball and I hope that more people are starting to realize that, because he's always cast as an abusive husband or Tarzan, but there's more to Alex than an abusive Tarzan." When it comes to Rossdale, fans didn't know the two were friends until Gavin himself revealed in an interview that McBrayer has spent the holidays with him and his kids ever since splitting from Gwen Stefani. The rocker also claimed the comedian once sent him an "invoice" for his "presence" after one particular outing, without giving much more context. So, of course, we asked. "Okay. So, to be fair, I am known for sending thank you notes. So for example, every home we go to on Zillow Gone Wild, I will send a handwritten thank you note to our homeowners," McBrayer told TooFab. "And that was 30 houses this season on top of 24 last season. It's a lot of postage, y'all. I'll need to invoice HGTV!" "But I have been friends with Gavin and his boys for such a long time and I'm so honored to be able to join them for special events, birthdays, holidays, super fun," he continued. "And so, after a while, if you're just writing a thank you note for every single occasion, I'm like, 'Well, I gotta shake it up a little bit. How do you top the last one?'" "And so, yes, there was one time I did create an invoice for him. A joke invoice," he insisted. "But, it was really fun to do and he did get a kick out of it. I was just like, 'I charge an exorbitant fee for his other friend for making small talk.'" See more of McBrayer on HGTV's Zillow Gone Wild, airing Fridays! Solve the daily Crossword

Jack McBrayer on which ex-'30 Rock' star would be on his new show
He's in the house. Jack McBrayer, best known for playing the cheerful page Kenneth Parcell on '30 Rock,' returns to host Season 2 of the reality show 'Zillow Gone Wild.' 'In Season 2, I think HGTV was allowing us to see more expensive properties. So, we're seeing houses where people could take bigger risks and bigger swings,' McBrayer, 52, exclusively told The Post, noting that one former co-star, in particular, would be great on the series. Premiering Friday, July 18 at 9:30 p.m. (on HGTV and streaming on Max), 'Zillow Gone Wild' was inspired by the popular Instagram account @ZillowGoneWild. 7 Jack McBrayer on 'Zillow Gone Wild.' Warner Bros Each episode shows McBrayer as he tours outlandish homes that are on the market, such as a Pennsylvania house built to resemble a giant shoe, or an off-the-grid facility in New Mexico partly made from old tires and bottles. McBrayer explained that all his reactions onscreen are authentic, since he doesn't get briefed on each house before touring it. 'It is a surprise. Our director, bless his heart, insisted that I not even look at the outside as we were driving up…. I looked insane, I'm sure,' he joked. 'But it's kind of cool when you have a job where the only preparation you have to do is zero preparation. I'm like, 'I am not going to argue too much!'' 7 Jack McBrayer on 'Zillow Gone Wild.' Warner Bros On camera, his big smile and earnest demeanor are similar to his character's personality on '30 Rock,' which he co-starred in with Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, and Tracy Morgan from 2006 to 2013. 'Oh yeah, that's all my garden grows,' he said, referring to his famous positive attitude and big smile. 'In fact, I'm so glad I got any job in the first place, because I can't do anything else,' he quipped. 7 Jack McBrayer on 'Zillow Gone Wild.' Warner Bros 7 Jack McBrayer on 'Zillow Gone Wild.' Warner Bros 'So I'm glad that I'm known for that, and that that's what people want when they hire me. You won't see me doing like a gritty melodrama anytime soon!' Even though he said dramas aren't his forte, McBrayer did guest star on an Oct. 2024 episode of 'Grey's Anatomy.' 'To be fair, I was a bit of the comic relief there,' he said. 7 Tina Fey as Liz Lemon, Jack McBrayer as Kenneth Parcell, Jane Krakowski as Jenna Maroney, Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy, Tracy Morgan as Tracy Jordan on '30 Rock.' Art Streiber/NBC 'It was really fun. I reached a point in my life and in my career where I'm gonna say 'yes' to the unexpected opportunities,' the star recalled. 'Never in a million years did I think I'd be asked to be on an episode of 'Grey's Anatomy,' which has been on for 21 years. And lo and behold, there I am on the operating table, whimpering about my kidneys.' McBrayer said that fans still approach him quoting lines from '30 Rock' regularly. 'That was really the first television that I'd done,' he said. 7 Jerry Seinfeld and Jack McBrayer on '30 Rock.' © NBC Universal, Inc 'I have an extensive background in improvisation…But because '30 Rock' was so densely packed with jokes, you had to spit out those lines very quickly.' McBrayer shared that although the show premiered nearly twenty years ago, 'I still call everybody on their birthday. We are all still in touch. And, it is just a delight to see the people when I do. It was just such an important part of my life.' As for which of his former castmates would make the best guest on his current show, the actor answered without hesitation. 7 '30 Rock' stars Tracy Morgan, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer. © NBC Universal, Inc. 'Now, Tracy Morgan would be a person who would be featured on 'Zillow Gone Wild,'' McBrayer told The post. He recalled that Morgan once had to leave set early 'because his shark tank was leaking.' McBrayer, meanwhile, said that his 'golly gee' demeanor gave his 'Zillow Gone Wild' crew a challenge. 'It is funny, because at one point, the editors did reach out to me and were like, 'Okay, now Jack, we have to explore different ways to be astonished.'' He added, 'One of the homeowners this season said, 'Oh yeah, from Season 1, we would play a drinking game on how many times you would say 'wow.' We got drunk real quick.''

Historic house for sale dramatically shifts styles inside. ‘House blasphemy'
Historic and modern blend together inside this Monroeville, Pennsylvania, house that's listed for $1 million … and people are split about it. 'Renovated in 2020, it blends historic charm with modern luxury. The original façade was preserved & high-end finishes added,' the listing on says. 'Features include a great room with soaring ceilings, custom trusses, polished concrete floors, black marble hex tile, & natural light through Hope's windows.' Outside? Outside is a very different story. 'Hand-carved stone exterior, slate roof, copper gutters,' the listing says. The three-bedroom, five-bathroom residence was built in 1939. The home appeared on Zillow Gone Wild, a Facebook page that highlights unique houses on the real estate market, and people were a little confused about the interior style. 'Looks like a good house for sock sliding,' one person observed. 'When Grandma left her house to someone that didn't need it, this happened,' another said. 'Blah- I'd have to gut it… that's almost house blasphemy…' someone commented. 'I love it. No notes. Now if I just had a million dollars laying around,' someone said. '(It's) like the tardis. It's bigger inside,' one person noted. Monroeville is about a 15-mile drive east from Pittsburgh.
