UAF holds ‘Startup Graduation Ceremony'
FAISALABAD: The National Incubation Center (NIC) established at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Monday organised Startup Graduation Ceremony in which 11 startups graduated for cohort 4. The ceremony was meant to highlight a significant milestone in the NICF continued efforts and contribution to foster entrepreneurship and support young innovators. Coordinator to Prime Minister on Commerce Rana Ihsan Afzal Khan as chief guest said the government was committed to flourish innovative projects aimed at uplifting the country and maximize national progress. He said that the government is supporting private sector to foster entrepreneurship and economic growth. He added that these efforts are focused on creating maximum job opportunities for people across the country. UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Zulfiqar Ali, in his message, called for honing the innovative and entrepreneurial skills among the young generation that will ultimately pave a way for knowledge based economy. He stressed upon the need to think out-of-the-box to address the challenges and contribute for the development of the country. Ignite National Technology Fund Assistant Manager Moaz Nasir said that it was beginning of a journey where entrepreneurs will shape the future through ideas, resilience and passion. Awais Zaidi form Faisalabad IT Companies Organization (Fitco) said that it is amazing to see that our young startups are not only solving real-world problems but also contributing to the economic development of Pakistan which will play a pivotal role in long run. Head of TMUC Nighat Nasreen lauded the efforts of UAF and said that the university is providing a platform to its students where they are enjoying best possible facilities and opportunities to excel in their relevant fields and make themselves worthy for the nation. NICF Project Director Zeeshan Shahid said startups have successfully tackled critical challenges such as food security, water scarcity, and climate change. He said that since its inception in September 2022, NICF has incubated around 80 startups, generating over 1,100 jobs and contributing significantly to Pakistan's economic growth. Director BIC Dr Iftikhar Ahmad Business Incubation Center said that all-out efforts were being carried out to polish the innovative and startup skills of the students. Three startups of Dr Zaheer Ahmad, Waqar Bin Shahid and Nouman Sandhu were given awards. Graduating startups presented their innovative business models and shared their journeys, challenges and successes during the period. Several startups showcased cutting-edge solutions in agri-tech, education, healthcare and digital services, reflecting the diverse and vibrant entrepreneurial skills. UAF, Malaysian varsity sign MoU
FAISALABAD: University Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA) Malaysia and University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the academic and research ties. Eight-member delegation from the Malaysian university visited UAF to explore R&D collaborations with UAF. The delegation led by Dr Nornasuha BintYusoff, called on the UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali. The VC said that the collaboration will help learn from each other's experiences and to address common challenges. He said that Malaysia was proving its mettle in terms of industrial development and education across the globe. He added ties with the Malaysian university would bring tangible results to excel in the field of education and research. He said UAF, in collaboration with Malaysian High Commission, Islamabad is used to frequently hold seminars invariably every year to explore new Research and Development (R&D) and business opportunities between the two brotherly countries. Russian envoy meets UAF vice chancellor
FAISALABAD: Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev has said that the educational and research ties especially between Russian universities and University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) will be further strengthened to learn from each other's experiences. He along with Education and Cultural Attaché Alina Kolesnikov visited UAF and called on UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali. He lauded the steps being taken on the part of UAF to address the agricultural challenges and ensure the food security. He said that his visit was aimed at further improving the bilateral ties. The areas of collaboration in academia and research including students exchange programs came under discussion. The meeting also discussed the possibilities of joint degree program, establishment of cultural center and short courses of Russian language. Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that collaboration with international partners, including Russia, could open new avenues for joint research, faculty exchange and student mobility which ultimately will benefit both nations in the fields of research, advancement and education. 'Revival of cooperatives to tackle food insecurity'
Experts at an international conference held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) have urged the revival of cooperative systems as a pathway to sustainable agricultural and rural development in Pakistan. The event was organised by the Institute of Agricultural Extension, Education and Rural Development in collaboration with the Punjab Cooperative Department. Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission, Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, highlighted that cooperatives globally play a vital role in addressing the economic, social, and cultural needs of communities. He warned that rapid urbanization and conversion of agricultural land into housing schemes threaten food security and rural livelihoods. Cooperatives, he noted, can empower farmers by improving access to technology and increasing productivity and income. UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Zulfiqar Ali noted that 2025 has been declared the International Year of Cooperatives by the United Nations.

UAF, AFL ink LoI
FAISALABAD: University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and Alliance Française de Lahore (AFL) have inked a Letter of Intent (LoI) to foster academia, cultural and research collaborations. The LoI was duly signed by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali and Director AFL Fabrice Disdier at Meeting Room, UAF Director External Linkages Muhammad Tehseen Azhar from UAF, focal person from UAF Dr Muhammad Atif, Deputy Director AFL Imran Asif, Director Research UAF Dr Imran Arshad also attended the meeting. As per agreement, Alliance Française de Lahore (AFL) will assist in making French Center Faisalabad Alliance Française, the standard reference for French Language, culture and civilization in Faisalabad.
