Help Helen say goodbye to her twin sister
Help Helen say goodbye to her twin sister Imagine receiving news that your twin has been diagnosed with terminal cancer in New Zealand while you are living in Zululand. This is the reality for one Zululander, Helen 'Pug' Prinsloo, who has not seen her twin sister for 11 years. Known as the cat whisperer by her Richards Bay SPCA colleagues – who describe her as selfless, gentle and hardworking – Helen has helped countless animals. Using its platform to raise R200 000 for her trip to say goodbye, the organisation expressed in an emotional Facebook post, 'Her twin sister, who lives in New Zealand, is the only family she has left in this world. They haven't seen each other in 11 years — not because they didn't want to, but because life and circumstances made it impossible. 'Helen became deaf as a young child and was unable to emigrate with her family. She stayed behind in South Africa with nothing but her quiet strength, her deep love for animals, and her sister's voice in her heart.' With oncologists predicting her sister has only about four months left to live due to her aggressive cancer, Helen cannot imagine not saying goodbye to the person she shared her first breath with. Feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders, she relies solely on her modest non-profit salary that barely covers her necessities, she has no family in South Africa, no savings, and besides her colleagues, no support. While R200 000 is a considerable sum, donations will contribute towards applying for emergency travel documents, a visa, and return airfare. Support furry friends for Mandela Day
Leading up to Mandela Day, community members are invited to support the Richards Bay SPCA's dog and cat food collection drive which kicked off earlier this month. Zululander Zianca Moodley is calling for people to support the drive as well as spending a few of their 67 minutes in honour of Madiba Day contributing to this cause. With two of her own adopted furry friends, Roxy and Rocco, she is an avid supporter of the amazing work undertaken by the local animal welfare organisation. Cash donations can be made to the Richards Bay SPCA, and collection points for the animal food are available at SA Bedding and Manufacturers. Pick-ups can also be arranged by contacting Zianca on 072 461 9625. Don't have the ZO app?
