'Domination through impact is new norm': CDS says metrics of victory changes in modern warfare; gives example of 'Operation Sindoor'

CDS General Anil Chauhan NEW DELHI: Chief of defence staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday threw light upon the changing notion of measuring victory in the war, saying in modern warfare, victory is often measured by speed and tempo of the operation. "Domination through brute force is the old norm, domination through impact and effect is a new norm," CDS said while speaking during Annual Trident Lecture Series (ATLS) at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi. Speaking in the context of Operation Sindoor , the CDS said, "If you look at how did we measure victory (in the) past when you talk about domination victory, we naturally associated victory with either capture of territory, number of people or equipment you killed or number of PWs you captured, loss of equipment, economic destruction, etc. Now juxtapose this with the metrics of victory which we defined for ourselves as far as Operation Sindoor is concerned." — PTI_News (@PTI_News) CDS Chauhan further said, "So in today's warfare, it was something to do with speed and tempo of operations. No territory, no people. Very precision strikes. The impact was important. You could hit very, very deep inside with precision. It created a huge impact psychologically, display of sophistication and superiority. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? Pakistan also launched offensives against India, and all subsequent counter-offensives by India were also carried out under Operation Sindoor. The military conflict halted on the evening of May 10.

Onstage drama: Kamal Haasan loses cool after man gifts him a sword

Kamal Haasan loses cool after man gifts him a sword (Video credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan got angry at a party meeting in Chennai after a group of men gifted him a sword on stage, prompting a brief moment of chaos and police intervention. A video of the incident shows Haasan initially accepting the sword with a smile amid a crowd of men trying to pose with him. As the situation became increasingly chaotic, Haasan's expression turned stern, and he was seen gesturing angrily at one man, ordering him to put the sword down. A police officer stepped in, attempting to take control of the weapon. Eventually, the officer managed to place it down. Despite Haasan's clear displeasure, the man shook hands with him and struck a pose before being escorted off the stage by security personnel. — PTI_News (@PTI_News) Controversy over Kannada remark intensifies Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan is facing a political storm in neighbouring Karnataka. On Friday, the Karnataka high court observed that he has not issued an apology for his controversial remarks on the Kannada language and directed the producer of his latest film Thug Life to respond to a plea filed by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. The Parishat, which sought to intervene in the film producer's case against a statewide release ban, argued that Haasan's statements hurt Kannada linguistic and cultural sentiments. The controversy dates back to the audio release of Thug Life, where Haasan claimed that the Kannada language originated from Tamil, a remark that triggered backlash across Karnataka. Multiple political leaders and the Karnataka Film Chamber had demanded an apology from the actor, but Haasan refused and ultimately withheld the film's release in the state on June 5, when it premiered globally.
