UN says no aid yet distributed in Gaza due to insecure access

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) -No humanitarian aid has yet been distributed in the Gaza Strip, the United Nations said on Wednesday, two days after Israel lifted an 11-week blockade and began allowing limited deliveries into the enclave through the Kerem Shalom crossing. "So far ... none of the supplies have been able to leave the Kerem Shalom loading area," said U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, adding that it was because Israeli authorities had only allowed access within Gaza "that we felt was insecure" and where looting was likely due to the prolonged deprivation.

UN says no aid distributed yet in Gaza

WASHINGTON, May 20 (Reuters) - No humanitarian aid has been distributed yet in the Gaza Strip, U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Tuesday, despite more supplies being dropped off on the Palestinian side of the Kerem Shalom crossing. "Today, one of our teams waited several hours for the Israeli green light to access the Kerem Shalom area and collect the nutrition supplies. Unfortunately, they were not able to to bring those supplies into our warehouse," Dujarric said. Israel allowed limited aid deliveries to Gaza to resume on Monday after an 11 week blockade.

Israel says it will allow ‘basic' amount of food into Gaza amid new ground assault

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel would control the whole of Gaza, despite mounting international pressure that forced it to lift a nearly three-month blockade on aid supplies that left the enclave on the brink of famine. The Israeli military, which announced the start of a new operation on Friday, warned residents of the southern city of Khan Younis on Monday to evacuate to the coast immediately as it prepared "an unprecedented attack."
