Tourism Ministry: It is 'business as usual' in Petra after floods Tourism is back to normal in the Red Rose city of Petra on Monday after the southern region was struck by heavy downpours that triggered flash floods causing disruptions at the tourist attraction. اضافة اعلان "Tourism activity is back to normal now and the city is receiving visitors from various countries around the world after tickets were suspended Sunday afternoon," said Yazan Mahadin, Commissioner for Petra Archaeological Park and Tourism at the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA). He said PDTRA had put in place a contingency plan to deal with the weather conditions, and emergency response teams were on the spot to repair damaged sites and ensure public safety. Repair crews were clearing floodwaters, maintaining trails and visitor facilities, and providing field support teams at vital sites within the Petra Archaeological Park, he said, adding that the authority was in coordination with security and civil defense bodies. Mahadin stressed the safety of visitors and citizens is a top priority, as the PDTRA endeavors to provide a safe tourist environment, raise the level of services that are "befitting Petra's status as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and a global destination and UNESCO world heritage site." Expanded Lake Whelchel trail boosts outdoor recreation space
CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – An Upstate trail was expanded on Thursday, providing outdoor enjoyers more available space for walking, hiking and mountain biking. The Lake Whelchel trail announced its expansion by 2.5 miles on Thursday and said that the county is one step closer to their long-term goal of having of having a 35-mile, multiuse trail from the City of Chesnee to Kings Mountain National Military Park. The Lake Whelchel trail is a part of two regional trail networks: the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail and the Carolina Thread Trail. The trail is now 10 miles and has added a new trailhead with 42 parking spaces, located at Pleasant School Road. The project was funded by a $98,000 Recreational Trails Program grant from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism that was received in 2023. Cherokee County matched the funds, along with personnel and equipment to help complete the project. Construction for the project began in September 2024. 'This trail is more than just a path through the woods it`s a connection to our community, to our shared history, and to the natural beauty that makes Cherokee County such a special place,' Cherokee County Administrator, Merv Bishop, said. 'Partnerships like this with the Gaffney Board of Public Works, the Overmountain Victory Trail, the Carolina Thread Trail, and all the volunteers and organizations who pitched in show what`s possible when we work together for a common cause.' '5,000 Years of Civilizational Dialogue' theme for Korea-Egypt 30th anniversary event
South Korea and Egypt will mark the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations with a cultural and arts exchange symposium and performances at the American University in Cairo (AUC) on April 30, 2025. The event, themed '5,000 Years of Civilizational Dialogue,' will take place from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM at AUC's Oriental Hall. It aims to foster deeper mutual understanding and long-term cultural cooperation between the two countries, organisers said. Hosted by South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in collaboration with the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) and the Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations of Korea, the event is jointly organised with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Egypt. The stated goal is to deepen cultural and artistic exchanges and establish a sustainable foundation for cooperation among artists. The event comprises three parts: the 'Dialogue of Five Thousand Years of Civilization' symposium, the 'Cairo Arts Declaration,' and a 'Colorful Korea' celebration performance. The symposium will cover topics including the social role of the arts, art education in the digital age, the future of cities and art, and current cultural cooperation. Organisers noted that presenters emphasised the power of art in enhancing empathy and solidarity and the possibilities for cross-border creative collaboration. The second part will see the official launch of the Asia-Africa Artists' Alliance (A3A). This initiative is described as a sustainable platform intended to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding among artists from Asia and Africa. Celebrations will continue the same evening with the 'Colorful Korea in Cairo' performance at AUC's Ewart Memorial Hall from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This event aims to foster understanding of K-culture while expanding cultural exchanges, featuring a programme showcasing traditional Korean arts and contemporary popular culture. Organisers described the events as a significant milestone in the South Korea–Egypt partnership, underscoring a shared commitment to cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchange. Kim Yonghyon, Ambassador of South Korea to Egypt, said: 'Over 30 years, our nations have transformed cooperation in to tangible progress, and will continue their commitment to a future oriented alliance, levering innovation, and shared values.' He added: 'Egypt's vision for sustainable development aligns with Korea's technological expertise will be a synergy that will shape the next decade.' Oh Sungho, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre in Egypt, stated: '30th anniversary celebrations are a testament to three decades of friendship and a launching platform for future cooperation in all domains.' Korean Welcome Week: What To Expect From South Korea's Biggest Event For International Tourists

On April 21, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced that the country will be hosting a series of welcoming events for international visitors. Dubbed the 2025 Korea Welcome Week, this joyous event will kick off on April 25 and continue until May 16. Notably, the celebration aligns with major holidays like China's Labor Day holiday (May 1 to May 5) and Japan's Golden Week (April 29 to May 6). According to the cultural ministry, these overlapping events are expected to attract large crowds, boosting South Korea 's tourism business, reports The Korea Times. As part of the Korea Welcome Week, welcome booths will be set up at prominent hubs, including Jeju, Gimpo, and Incheon international airports. The Busan Port International Passenger Terminal will also have a similar setup. These booths will be decorated with Korean crafts, offering tourists a glimpse into the country's rich cultural heritage. Tourists can expect multilingual travel guides at these locations, providing valuable insights into South Korea's myriad cultural experiences. That's not all, globetrotters. Visitors will be given a user-friendly digital tourism guide map at the welcome booths. The map will also be available on the official Visit Korea website. These maps serve a special purpose - they are designed to assist tourists with comprehensive information on South Korea's major attractions, iconic sightseeing spots, hidden gems, craft workshops, shopping centres, dining options, and money exchange offices. Travellers can also find facilities like restrooms and transportation hubs through these easy-to-use maps. Foreign tourists welcomed at these booths will receive exclusive discounts, vouchers, and souvenirs from the Visit Korea Committee.
