'Ice-age' era spearhead unearthed by accident on Paris, Ont., farm
When Mike and Laura Vellenga were working on their family farm in Paris, Ont., the last thing they expected to find was what may be a 12,500-year-old piece of history. The couple has accidentally unearthed two pieces of an ancient spearhead that are small enough to fit in your palm and made of a piece of chert flint — light grey, with thin gold veining. Thousands of years ago, it would have been used by a hunter-gatherer as a weapon at the end of a stick. CBC K-W's Aastha Shetty went out to the farm to speak with the Vellenga family about their once-in-a-lifetime discovery.

THE LIBRARIANS: THE NEXT CHAPTER Recap: (S01E07) And the Con-Con
While the inaugural season of The Librarians: The Next Chapter spends extensive time exploring Vikram's (Callum McGowan) backstory and personality (and with good reason), there's plenty still to learn about the other team members. In 'And the Con-Con,' we discover Connor's (Bluey Robinson) community of conspiracy believers and what his place in that community was. Even more interesting, we meet his nemesis AND his acolyte. RELATED: Catch up with our recap of the previous episode of The Librarians: The Next Chapter , 'And the House of Cards' Of course, there's an artifact in play. This one's particularly dangerous to both the wielder and the targets. How powerful does a delusion need to be to reprogram everyone, including the deluder? Also, a tip of the hat to the double entendre in the title. Is it short for 'Conspiracy Convention' or 'Connor Convention'? (And how did this title never get used in Leverage ?) Photograph by Aleksandar Letic The Librarians: The Next Chapter, 'And the Con-Con' The team returns suddenly to the Annex, all dressed in bizarre outfits. Lysa (Olivia Morris) and Charlie (Jessica Green) berate him for impetuously opening the artifact that released a moth demon, which ate all their clothes. Vikram tries to calm them by pointing out that they were able to get replacement clothes quite easily. Charlie accuses him of rubbing off on Connor in terms of recklessness. RELATED: TV Review: Leverage: Redemption Season 3 The pendulum indicates a magical occurrence at the convention center. Lysa looks it up and discovers it's hosting Con-Con 2025, an international gathering of conspiracy theorists. Connor tries to deter them. Charlie guesses that this is his old crew. He denies it. Lysa discovers the keynote address is titled, 'Whatever Happened to Connor Green?' She's excited to test her new invention. Con-Con 2025 On their way to the convention, Lysa explains she's created an app that detects 'unknown science.' Connor calls it a 'magic app,' which irritates her. When asked why the keynote is about his disappearance, he reminds them that joining the Library meant he had to stop posting online. He was enough of a celebrity in the Con-Con community that they noticed. Before becoming a conspiracy theorist influencer, he taught at Stuttgart until he published a paper claiming vampires are real and lost his position. Vikram interjects that vampires are real. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Photograph by Aleksandar Letic Connor insists he always tried to spread the truth to his followers, the Spectral Snoops. In contrast, he points out the keynote presenter, Harvey Pope (Chris Patrick-Simpson), on a billboard, whom he calls 'the worst human being I ever met.' RELATED: TV Review: Resident Alien Season 4 Walking into the convention center, Lysa laughs that he was king of the nerds. Connor denies that he was their king. A convention attendee, Digsy (Dannie Pye), catches sight of him and addresses him as 'King Con.' Connor fakes an accent and pretends to be someone else. He buys a hat as a disguise. While walking around the booths, Connor argues that the conspiracy community doesn't spread just lies. He can't stand being called a liar after the Stuttgart incident. As they examine the conspiracies being presented, Connor defends the community, mentioning that there was one member he cared for like a younger brother, Pedro Worth (Ike Bennett). Pedro Worth Vikram describes Pedro to Connor, impressing him until Vikram says a man of that description is standing behind Connor. Connor turns around and delightedly greets a stunned Pedro. After being initially happy to see him, Pedro gets angry and punches Connor. He accuses Connor of abandoning him and letting him think Connor was dead. When Connor explains that things got complicated, Pedro offers him a chance to explain. Connor can't, and Pedro tells him he wishes they'd never met and leaves. When the announcement is made that Harvey Pope is about to deliver the keynote speech, Lysa's detector starts beeping. Sitting down at the back of the room, Connor tells the team that Harvey's only interested in brainwashing everyone and selling them vitamins. Pedro takes the stage to introduce Harvey. He works for Harvey now. RELATED: Olivia Morris Shares How The Librarians: The Next Chapter Hooked Her From Page One When Harvey addresses the crowd, he states that Connor made up his search for the Library to con followers out of their money. He says that he confronted Connor, and Connor ran away. When he accuses Connor of leaving them with nothing but lies, the convention attendee who recognized Connor earlier accuses Harvey of being the liar. Harvey offers to show the crowd proof that magic is real. Pedro brings a box to Harvey. Lysa's detector beeps louder, registering a maximum level of magic. The Crown of Anansi Harvey removes a silver circlet with a spider image on it from the box. Vikram recognizes it immediately as the Crown of Anasi. He calls Mrs. Astolat (Caroline Loncq) to open a magic door. The guards block their way. Pedro accuses Connor of running away again. Harvey puts on the crown, and it disappears after latching onto his head. Vikram describes it as a magical parasite. Harvey calls upon the crowd to trust him, and they all begin to stand and profess their faith in him, including the attendee who called him a liar. Lysa's detector gets so hot, it sparks in her hand. Connor warns the others that the Crown of Anansi is a mind control device. Charlie deals with the guards. Connor grabs Pedro, and they all run into the exhibition hall and through a door to the Annex. Pedro is shocked to see the Annex. The rest of the team is surprised Connor brought him through. Unexpected Guest Pedro realizes he's in the Library. He can't believe Connor kept this from him. Charlie's adamant that Pedro cannot leave now that he knows about the Library. Connor convinces her to open the magic door for Pedro. Before he leaves, Connor tries to warn Pedro about Harvey, but Pedro lashes out at him and leaves. RELATED: On Location: The Belgrade Fortress on The Librarians: The Next Chapter The team researches the Crown of Anansi. Lysa learns that it eats away at the wearer's mind until they can't tell the difference between truth and lies. They have to steal the crown from Harvey and plan to wear noise-cancelling headphones so they can't hear his magic-infused brainwashing voice. Connor wants to try talking to Harvey directly. When Connor finds Harvey, Harvey reminds him they're just playing a game to increase their exposure. Connor tries to warn Harvey about the crown's parasitic nature. He describes the stages — making the wearer feel all-powerful, and then degrees of paranoia set in. The wearer feels like everyone is against them. In the end, the crown decimates the wearer's ability to think clearly, having eaten away at their brain. Harvey doesn't care, believing Connor is afraid now that Harvey holds the power. He yells that Connor always had power even when he didn't seek it. Connor points out that he told people the truth, while Harvey just wants to sell bogus vitamins. Harvey admits he's only in it for the money, that no one cares for the Con-Con community. Connor says he cared for them. He offers Harvey his phone with all his passwords so he can access all of Connor's contacts and notes. Harvey tries to use the crown's power to make Connor hand it over, but Connor puts on his noise-cancelling headphones. Harvey calls in security. Connor takes off. A New Ally Pedro pulls Connor out of the room through a sliding door and tells him to run. Once they lose the guards, Pedro explains he overheard the conversation. When Harvey admitted to not caring for the community, the crown's power disappeared. He hasn't forgiven Connor for lying and abandoning him, but he's on side now to stop Harvey. RELATED: Dean Devlin Dishes on The Librarians: The Next Chapter 's Magical Homecoming At the Annex, Connor tells the others how Pedro broke free of Harvey's control. Vikram suggests a spell of silence. Charlie vetoes the use of magic. Instead, she suggests an aural feedback loop that will disorient Harvey and stop him from talking. For the plan to work, they'll need audio equipment, a magnet, and a Big Foot costume. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Photograph by Aleksandar Letic At a book signing, Lysa seats Harvey in front of a big window to greet his fans. Once he's in position, she and Vikram activate the feedback loop using a sonic cannon. The Big Foot approaches the table. Harvey tries to call for security. Connor stands on the other side of the window with a big magnet and attracts the crown right off Harvey's head. Charlie grabs the crown from the window and takes her Big Foot head off. Powerless The crowd comes out of their brainwashed states and abandons Harvey. In the hall outside, the team agrees to lock the crown away in the Library. However, they've all taken hold of the crown. They can't let go. Vikram warns them to beware the crown and tells them to shield their minds from its coercion. The crown offers each of them their greatest desire. RELATED: 5 Great Books About Libraries and Librarians Vikram begins to reach out to take the crown with both hands. Connor rips it from their grips and runs off. Outside, he prepares to throw it over the ledge. Suddenly, he's shaking hands with the head of Stuttgart, being welcomed back. The crown promises him this will become reality if he puts it on. Connor puts it on. Inside the dream, the walls begin to cave in. In Belgrade, Connor rips the crown off his head and throws it away. Vikram finds him there and checks in with him. He sends Connor off ahead. Back at the Annex, Connor tells Lysa and Charlie about the moment of temptation. Vikram joins them. Connor sees a glimpse of the Crown of Anansi on Vikram's forehead and gasps. Vikram notes the gasp and questions him. Connor denies it. Making up an excuse to be alone with Lysa and Charlie, Connor tells them that Vikram is wearing the crown. Paranoia Lysa and Charlie don't believe it. Connor tells them they never believe him. He accuses them of respecting Vikram more than him, of holding a double standard. Lysa calls this crazy. Connor takes that personally and leaves to look for Pedro. In the passageways, he spots Vikram talking to Lysa and Charlie. RELATED: Read our Leverage: Redemption recaps At the convention, Connor finds Pedro, who tells him Harvey has run off now that his control over everyone is broken. They discuss their relationship and how the Library complicates things. Connor admits that he could've done things differently, but that he didn't want to risk losing the chance to be a part of the Library. Pedro realizes the Con-Con community embarrasses Connor. Connor admits that he really wants Pedro to forgive him. Pedro forgives him. Connor asks him for a favor. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Photograph by Aleksandar Letic In the Annex, Pedro distracts Lysa so that Connor can pull her earphones out. He hears Vikram's voice in the earphones, demanding that the listener obey him. He tells Lysa that Vikram's using the crown's power on her. She blinks and believes him. Working together, they get Charlie's earphones off her, too. She immediately agrees that Connor was right about Vikram. He's in the Main Library, looting it for artifacts to spread the crown's effect to the whole world. Mobilizing the Masses Connor and Pedro go back to the convention. Pedro announces that Connor's giving a speech on the Main Stage. Connor apologizes for ever thinking he was too good for them. He tells them about the Library and how Vikram's been influenced by an artifact. When he asks them to follow him to help stop Vikram, they leap to their feet and chant, 'King Con!' They march en masse to the castle. Lysa and Charlie comment on how smart Connor's been about this whole thing. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Photograph by Aleksandar Letic Outside the castle, Connor hands out headphones to everyone. He plans to offer Vikram the chance to hand over the crown. Pedro states, 'I trust you.' Connor, Lysa, Charlie, and Pedro walk into the Annex, where Vikram meets them. Using a megaphone, he tells them they can take their headphones out since they won't make a difference. RELATED: Read our recaps of The Librarians: The Next Chapter Once he doesn't need the megaphone, he asks Pedro why he was so angry with Connor. Pedro denies ever being angry with Connor. Vikram then asks Lysa and Charlie about being angry at Connor for releasing the moth demon. They deny it. Connor's confused, until he realizes that he's still wearing the Crown of Anansi, that he's been wearing it ever since the moment of temptation. Clarity When he tries to tell the other three that he's been using the crown to control them, they refuse to believe him. He tells Lysa to point her magic-detecting app at him. It sparks and wakes her up to the truth. Charlie and Pedro shake off the control, too. The crown won't come off until he disenchants the crowd outside. On the steps of the castle, Connor addresses the crowd and tells them he's a liar. This breaks the spell, and he's able to remove the crown and put it in the box Vikram's holding. The crowd leaves. Pedro tells Connor he's glad they had this adventure together. Without the crown's influence, Pedro genuinely forgives Connor. Pedro's already started forgetting the details of the Crown of Anansi. They embrace, and Pedro heads off. The team gathers. Connor wonders if he and Lysa will forget everything that's happened once their six months are over.
