Ocean Alley return with their fifth album, Love Balloon
Ocean Alley are finally locking in their return with their fifth studio album, Love Balloon . It sure feels like it's been an age since we've heard from the Northern Beaches six piece beyond the odd track, so it's exciting to know that their next big project sits just on the other side of winter. Love Balloon will be with us on September 19. We've had our first taste of the new Ocean Alley record with 'Tangerine' and 'Left Of The Dealer' (their first releases since 2022's Low Altitude Living ), and now we have another morsel through the album's title track, 'Love Balloon'. This new one sees the band expanding on their infectious grooves with bright, soulful and deliriously loved-up lyricism. Watch this one get immediately added to wedding playlists right across the board. With their fifth album, Ocean Alley set out to explore all facets of love beyond what we project to the public – they're going warts and all. "Not just the cinematic kind where you're falling head over heels," keyboardist and vocalist Lach Galbraith said. "The full spectrum; joy, hurt, discomfort and disappointment. Let's call it the river of love – whether it's with a partner, a friend, or family, you'll never know when it'll get deep, go shallow, or suddenly change course. "It's such a force that you have to just surrender to its current." Ocean Alley are heading off to chase the sun on a North American tour in July and returning again in October, with a couple of cheeky shows in Europe and the UK around the time the album drops. But we bet the call of the Australian summer will lure them back home soon enough.

When Simple Minds first played US and why, for singer Jim Kerr, the band is ‘a crusade'
When the Scottish band Simple Minds made their live debut at the Satellite City club in Glasgow on January 17, 1978, it is fair to wonder just how big the four teenagers in the band dared to dream. 'That's a good question,' says singer Jim Kerr, who along with guitarist Charlie Burchill, are the only founding members of Simple Minds to have stayed in the band for the 47 years since that first gig. 'And it's one that we've been reflecting on a lot recently, because Charlie and I have just finished off a book on the history of the band.' At the time, Kerr and Burchill were both 18 and had been friends for a decade, Kerr says. 'By the time we became teenagers, with Brian (McGee, the original drummer), we were in the same class at school. That's when you start to identify your tribe, especially walking around with vinyl albums under your sleeve you find out, oh, these are the guys I've got something in common with,' he says on a recent call from Los Angeles, where Simple Minds were rehearsing for a US tour. Play Burchill had a guitar, McGee had a drum kit, and Kerr would have done anything to be involved with music or a band.

Albuquerque community helps band recover stolen trailer
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The show will go on for a band traveling through Albuquerque who had their trailer, full of equipment and merchandise, stolen. But the power of social media and the Albuquerque community helped them get it back. Story continues below News: UNM researchers make new discovery about Yellowstone National Park supervolcano New Mexico Strange: A dive into the Painted Lady's violent past, haunted present Community: Major renovation' planned for ABQ BioPark Children's Fantasy Garden New Mexico Crime Files: A deputy tazing a high school student goes too far British-American trio Raynes made their 18th stop on tour in Albuquerque this past weekend. After a successful show at Revel on Saturday night, things hit a sour note. 'The next morning, I went out to the vehicle and noticed the trailer was just missing, vanished,' said Joe Berger, a member of Raynes. He let his bandmates know the trailer was stolen from their hotel parking lot in the University area. 'Our whole livelihood is in the back of this trailer. All of our instruments, all of our merch that we sell at our shows, literally everything that we have is contained in that trailer,' said Mark Race, the lead singer of Raynes. The band searched around town and also put out a call on social media. They posted a video letting the public know what happened and asking for the community's help. The video spread fast and led to a Facebook message from a local saying the trailer had been spotted. 'I said send me photo, and sure as heck that was it,' said Berger. The band met police at the location of the trailer and got even better news. All that was taken was a mandolin, banjo, and what must've been a good pair of snakeskin boots. 'We opened it and by golly, everything, almost everything, was still in the trailer. We did not expect the trailer, much less anything in it,' said Berger. While some locals were in the comments bashing Albuquerque for the theft, some calling it 'typical Albuquerque' and an 'embarrassment,' for the band Raynes, the Land of Enchantment still lives up to its name. 'Every band this happens to at least once. It's not just in Albuquerque, it's all over the place,' said Mat Charley, band member of Raynes. 'We had a really phenomenal show, like the night before, one of our favorite of the tour and met a bunch of great people.' And it was those people in the Duke City that helped Raynes get back on the road with their trailer and ready for their next show. 'A massive thank you to everyone that did help. Because without their help we would've never have found this and we would've found ourselves in a much, much worse situation,' said Race. KRQE News 13 reached out to the Albuquerque Police Department to see if any arrest was made, but did not hear back. The band said they are going to stay somewhere safer next time they come to Albuquerque and are looking into getting AirTags for their trailer. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Nick Hodgson reunites with his former Kaiser Chiefs bandmates as they perform for the first time together in over a decade
Nick Hodgson has reunited with his former Kaiser Chiefs bandmates as they perform for the first time together in over a decade at Leeds Newsham Park on Saturday. The former drummer and songwriter, 47, quit the band in December 2012 in order to 'pursue new challenges'. When he announced his departure from the Leeds collective via Twitter he insisted he had no hard feeling towards his former band mates. The rocker posted: 'I can confirm I have left Kaiser Chiefs after 15 spectacular years. I'm moving on. I wish the rest of the band the very best!' During his time with the famed band, the musician wrote the songs Ruby, I Predict A Riot and Oh My God. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. When Nick first announced his departure he later said in a statement that he wanted to turn his attention to avenues of music. He said: 'After 15 years with the band and having achieved such amazing things thanks to the support and loyalty of our fans, I have decided to leave and turn my attention to other areas within the world of music and to pursue new challenges. 'It has not been an easy decision and one that the boys and I have discussed throughout this year. The band have been incredibly supportive of my decision. I wish them all continued success.' The group's three remaining members were quick to respond, with frontman Ricky Wilson replying: 'The door is on the latch and the key under the mat. X' Guitarist Andrew 'Whitey' White wrote: 'Gonna miss you @ I have your bunk? X' Bassist Simon Rix also joked: 'Good luck to @nickkaiserchief with his plans. I can exclusively confirm we will still be collaborating on pints in pubs.' The I Predict a Riot hitmakers then issued an official statement insisting Nick's departure wouldn't affect their plans as a group and their scheduled UK tour in February and March 2013 will still go ahead. The band's performance comes after Ricky reflected on his huge career change and how getting into radio has helped him following the success of the rock band. The Kaiser Chiefs frontman, 46, opened up about the highs and lows of fame admitting radio is now 'not only a joy' but also a 'three-hour mental workout, five days a week' for him. The singer discussed how he forged a new career in TV and radio after living it all up with the multi-platinum selling band - firstly joining The Voice for three seasons. Meanwhile last year, he came second on The Masked Singer where he was disguised as Phoenix, and also presented an art show on CBBC. But the rock star admitted that despite remembering the band's heyday fondly, he does not miss the fame and feels very at home while doing radio. Speaking to Sunday Times, Ricky explained he has been juggling between work duties and fathering two-year-old twins. He previously appeared on Radio X and Radio 2, but has now been a regular for 18 months hosting Virgin Radio's weekday drivetime show. Recalling how his first approach to radio was, he said: 'At first I found it terrifying. There's no one to bounce off — just me telling stories and musing on my life. The magic is in connecting with an audience. 'TV doesn't do that as much any more, but radio still has a strong community spirit. It's much my preferred place to be.' The Kaiser Chief frontman, 46, opened up about the highs and lows of fame admitting radio is now 'not only a joy' but also a 'three-hour mental workout, five days a week' for him (pictured in 2019) Ricky didn't hide the fame during Kaiser Chief's peak was 'terrific', although he doesn't miss it. Unveiling an ace up his sleeve, the TV personality revealed wearing 'cheap jeans' has always been his secret to not be recognised in public. Ricky's confidence with the spotlight must have been smooth also thanks to his father who was director of It's A Knockout, a family-friendly TV game show watched by millions in the 1970s. 'Only recently I realised that it must have massively affected what I do today. I am a nepo baby! Not because my parents' past got me a job but because I saw what was possible. I've always been comfortable on sets. Nothing in the entertainment industry has felt out of reach to me. Hey, we used to have Su Pollard hang out at our house.'

Rockstar's ‘pretty gnarly' injury forces band to cancel UK and European shows
Kings of Leon have cancelled their upcoming UK and European shows due to frontman Caleb Followill shattering his heel in a "freak accident." Followill said he broke his foot while playing with his kids and required emergency surgery. Doctors have advised Followill to stay off his feet and avoid travel for approximately eight weeks. The band was scheduled to begin their European tour on June 10 in Paris, with stops in Spain, Germany, Italy and Portugal, and were also set to perform at festivals in Cardiff and Lancashire. Followill mentioned the band had planned to debut new songs during the tour and will now find alternative ways to continue their work while he recovers.
