I saved hundreds of pounds by DIY-ing my daughter's birthday cake – it only cost me £18 and people think it's ‘genius'
IF your child's birthday is coming up and the thought of splashing the cash on a lavish cake sends shivers down your spine, fear not, you've come to the right place. Many parents will know that ordering a personalised birthday cake can often end up costing hundreds of pounds. 3 3 3 But in a bid to save cash, one savvy mum took matters into her own hands and was able to cut costs by DIY-ing her little darling's birthday dessert. Posting on social media, a mother named Amy shared a step-by-step tutorial of how she DIY-ed her daughter Myla's pink birthday cake - and it cost her less than £20. So if you're on a budget and your purse is feeling tighter than ever before, then you'll need to listen up. The UGC content creator explained that to celebrate her daughter turning one, she decorated the Pretty in Pink Lambeth Cake, which she bought from Waitrose. The pink coloured golden sponge cake, which is filled with raspberry jam and topped and decorated with pale pink and dark pink buttercream, cost Amy just £18. Then, using some pink icing and ribbons she already had, she was able to personalise the cake - and we think it looks incredibly professional. Alongside a short clip shared online, the influencer penned: 'Making my daughter's first birthday cake, saving £100s!' Showing off the box-fresh vintage-style cake, which is decorated with whirls and swirls of piping, Amy beamed: 'Come with me to DIY my daughter's first birthday cake for only £18!' Amy confirmed that she used letter cutters to cut out 'Myla is one' in pink icing, which she placed on top of the cake. Following this, she attached pretty pink bows, which she already had from Shein, and was able to stick these to the cake with cocktail sticks. The simple chocolate cake recipe using only TWO ingredients - it's sweet and you won't even need to put it in the oven We think Amy's DIY cake looks brilliant and is a great way for those strapped for cash to save money, without having to scrimp on the celebrations. The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @ mummyandmylaa, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 178,600 views. Not only this, but it's also amassed 2,782 likes, 31 comments and 780 saves. Social media users were impressed with the jaw-dropping cake and many eagerly raced to the comments to express this. I DIY-ed a Kardashian-worthy cake for my daughter's birthday for £20 using Asda bargains – people say it's ‘brilliant'
SHE had the best idea for a birthday cake when she saw the sprinkle-covered one Kourtney Kardashian's daughter Penelope had for hers. But instead of forking out for a pricey professional one for her little girl, one mum has shared how she managed to make her own for less than £20. 3 3 3 She took to TikTok to post a video documenting the process, which she began by opening up the £4.82 chocolate cake she'd picked up from Asda. She then scraped off the chocolate icing on the top, before using Betty Crocker's cream cheese style icing to cover the cake. Next, she got some unicorn confetti sprinkles and spread them generously over the top of the cake. She followed that by using pink frosting to pipe around the top and bottom edges of the cake. Before rolling out some pink fondant icing, and cutting two eyes and a smiley mouth out of it. Placing those on the top, the cake was finished - and it looked incredible, and incredibly similar to Penelope's one, which likely cost a fortune. "Copy Penelope Kardashian's birthday cake for less than £20," she captioned her video. "This Kardashian cake hack is easy and super affordable. If I can make it, so can you!" She also shared some "pro tips" to make the cake decorating process smoother, including putting the cake in the fridge before applying the frosting for a "firmer base". And if you don't want to shell out for pink icing, you can just use pink food colouring to colour the frosting and fondant icing. The simple chocolate cake recipe using only TWO ingredients - it's sweet and you won't even need to put it in the oven The mum was quickly praised in the comments section of the TikTok, with one person writing: "Looks really good and the fact this can be made less than £20, basically impossible these days!" "How to be creative with less ... its fab!" another said. "This is great. Especially cost of living going up," a third added. "It shows you can be creative without spending a lot of money." "This is brilliant!" someone else said. "Omg, I'm loving your page, I'm legit saving everything on here. "What brilliant tips!" "So clever, my granddaughter would love this - amazing!" another wrote. Penelope's birthday cake was custom made by Hansens - who dub themselves the "best bakery in Los Angeles".

I was quoted £240 for my daughter's birthday cake so DIY-ed it for a fraction of the cost with M&S and Temu buys
A MUM who was quoted a staggering £240 to make a 4th birthday cake for her daughter has been praised after showing how she did it herself for just £55. Pamela explained that she wanted a Trolls-themed cake to mark her little girl Mila turning four, so got a quote from a professional baker near her. 3 3 3 But when it came back at £240, she decided to try and DIY it. And the results were better than she could have ever imagined, as she took to TikTok to share the finished cake. She used three cakes from Marks & Spencer to create the tiered design - the Under the Rainbow cake, the Rainbow layer cake and a Vanilla sprinkle gift cake. She then stacked them on top of each other - with the rainbow-striped cake at the bottom, followed by the rainbow layer cake and topped off with the gift cake. Pamela placed the finished cake on a pink board from Amazon, and added loads of Trolls decorations to complete it. She added Trolls figurines from Temu, and used a gorgeous cake topper she'd had made from Etsy, which featured some of the film's famous characters and 'Mila, 4' on it. "Oops I did it again! Thank you Marks and Spencer, I didn't have to pay £240 for the cake I was quoted," she captioned the TikTok snaps. The comments section was immediately filled with people saying how impressed they were by Pamela's skills, and bombarding her with questions about her creation. "How much did it come to?" one asked. With Pamela replying: " £40ish for the cakes and about £15 for all the Trolls bits!" The simple chocolate cake recipe using only TWO ingredients - it's sweet and you won't even need to put it in the oven "Did you have to put anything in the cakes to support them?" another questioned. "No - I didn't - I literally just piled them on top of each other - next time I think I will, it would be really simple to do!" "LOVE THIS SUPERMUM!!" one wrote. "This issss soo smart!!" another raved. "Wow, this is a GAME changer! So impressive!" a third insisted. "Omg that's amazing, well done you!" someone else said. "Everything from M&S tastes nice too," another added. "It looks AMAZING! Well done!" someone else commented. While others insisted that Pamela's cake probably tastes better than professional ones too. "Cakes made by bakers are horrible," one said. "I've always paid a fortune for them and they are dry and they use cheap quality ingredients. "I go to M&S for all my kids cakes now.. they 100% taste nice than any baker!" "Bet it tasted lovely too, I find most cake makers cakes actually don't taste as nice as they look," another said. With a "wedding/celebration cake baker" weighing in: "I make sure all my cakes taste good and use real ingredients. "I've seen and tasted some shocking cakes, faux ingredients and it devalues our skills which is what you pay for. "I've also stacked an M&S cake due to budget constraints."
