Man charged with impaired driving after 2 children seriously injured in Oshawa crash

A man has been charged with impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision in Oshawa that left two children seriously injured. Durham Regional Police Service say they were called to a crash involving two vehicles on Taunton Road near Stevenson Road N. at around 9:10 p.m. on Wednesday. In a news release Thursday, police said the vehicles — a 2000 Ford Mustang and a 2016 Hyundai Elantra — had gotten into a T-bone collision. Shortly after, the driver of the Mustang got out of his vehicle and ran off. The driver — a 29-year-old Oshawa man — was quickly located by police and arrested. He has since been charged with five counts of impaired operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, dangerous operation of a vehicle and failing to remain causing bodily harm. He was held for a bail hearing. Emergency crews rushed to help four people inside the Hyundai, according to the news release. The driver — a 41-year-old man — was extricated and transported to hospital with minor injuries. A 33-year-old woman was trapped and, after a "lengthy extrication," was freed and transported to hospital with serious injuries, police said. Two boys aged 10 and five suffered serious injuries and were taken to a Toronto-area hospital. Police say the 10 year old is currently listed in stable condition while the five year old remains in serious condition. Three passengers who were inside the Mustang remained on scene and were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
