The ultra-cheap Moto G 5G (2024) is 30% off in Amazon's latest deal

High-end phones are attractive with their premium design, powerful processors, and impressive cameras. But let's face it: not everyone wants to cough up over $1,000 for a new smartphone. Fortunately, there are plenty of ultra-budget-friendly alternatives that meet your everyday needs and fit within a budget price range. Take the Moto G 5G (2024), for example. $60 off (30%) The Moto G 5G (2024) is an affordable Android phone that's ideal for users on a tight budget, especially with Amazon's latest sale. Right now, you can get this device for 30% off, which brings it to an even more budget-friendly price. Buy at Amazon $25 off (13%) If you're looking for a better-looking display, improved camera performance, and longer software support, the Galaxy A16 5G is a top alternative. This device is 13% off at Amazon right now, saving you $25. Buy at Amazon This fella supports 5G connectivity, boasts a smooth display, and lasts quite a bit per charge. The best part? It costs just under $200, making it a solid no-nonsense daily driver. But now, this Android phone is simply irresistible, as Amazon sells it for a whopping 30% off its original price. Sure, Moto G 5G (2024) device already has a successor, but as you can see from our Moto G (2025) review, it doesn't exactly offer enough meaningful upgrades over the 2024 model. However, if you're looking for a sub-$200 phone with a Super AMOLED display and multi-year software support, the Moto G 5G (2024) isn't the ideal fit. The Galaxy A16 5G, on the other hand, boasts an OLED screen and six years of OS upgrades, plus it's 13% off at Amazon right now. But if you're after a no-frills experience that costs less than $150, the Moto G 5G (2024) is a standout deal at $60 off. For just under $140, this bad boy delivers a decent visual experience with its 6.6-inch 120Hz display. Performance is admirable, given its affordable asking price. Sure, its Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chip won't run demanding gaming titles smoothly (or at all). But for basic tasks like browsing, casual streaming, or light multitasking, the phone holds up just fine. While it's a perfectly suitable everyday phone, the Moto G 5G (2024) doesn't excel in terms of software support and camera prowess. The device gets one major OS upgrade (nothing beyond Android 15). As for the camera, its 50MP main sensor, which lacks optical image stabilization, delivers good-looking results mainly in well-lit conditions. Overall, the Moto G 5G (2024) delivers a no-frills experience that users on a tight budget might appreciate. And now that it's 30% off, it's an even easier choice. Alternatively, if you prefer better camera performance and multiple OS upgrades, the Galaxy A16 5G is a great, slightly pricier alternative.

Amazon Prime Day Deals Drop the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G to the Lowest We've Seen All Year

While pricing around new technology is increasing, Amazon Prime deals are still here to bring you a few sales on phones -- even those that are already at fair prices. Take this Samsung Galaxy A16 for example. The Samsung Galaxy A series are some of our favorite phones for people on a budget, and while it doesn't have everything the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series offers, it's still a solid device. Best of all, Amazon Prime sales just dropped the phone to a new record low of $142. That's a nice $58 saving for a 2025 model that has 5G built-in; and its the lowest price we have seen all year. The Samsung Galaxy A-series phones are built to last and are our favorite options for those who want an affordable model that will remain viable for years. Realistically, the new 2025 Galaxy A16 won't exactly keep up with the latest and greatest models from Apple and Google -- or the foldable Samsung devices being announced today at Galaxy Unpacked -- but it still boasts some decent specs for the price. The Samsung Galaxy A15 won the best ultracheap phone on our Best Samsung Phone of 2025 round-up. Our CNET tech experts called it "an easy choice for someone looking to buy a phone that will last for years." They added in the review, "Samsung provides [the Galaxy A15] with four years of software updates and five years of security support, which in this price range is unparalleled." So, the Samsung Galaxy A16 is one step up. Mike Sorrentino, senior tech editor, says that the "Galaxy A16 [is] one of the lowest-cost phones to get a software and security update commitment [for] longer than five years, which could be a benefit for someone looking to buy a simple phone that will be updated." The A16 has an Exynos 1330 processor, a 6.7-inch AMOLED display and an impressive 50-megapixel rear camera. It also has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage that can be expanded using a microSD card. Other features include a tap-to-pay function, an IP54 weather-resistance rating and 25-watt fast-charging support. Samsung's Cheaper Galaxy A26 Is Surprisingly a Better Buy Than the Galaxy A36

Samsung has a cushy throne. Or at least the company acts that way. Its latest budget phones—the Galaxy A26 and Galaxy A36—check all the boxes. But next to beautifully designed handsets from Nothing and Motorola with comparable prices, it feels like Samsung is coasting on brand name and the fact that you can probably pick up one of these devices from a carrier in minutes. And a lot of people will do exactly that, thanks to various carrier promotions that'll tease a 'free' A36 or A26 if you sign up for a specific cell plan (hint: they're never free). So, if you plan on buying one of these, which one should you get? The $400 Galaxy A36 or the $300 Galaxy A26? I spent more than a week with both as my main phone, and the first thing I'll say is that they're easily the best Galaxy A-series phones Samsung has made in years . That's not a high bar, though. Easy A Galaxy A36, left. Galaxy A26, right. Photograph: Julian Chokkattu The piano-black color of these phones feels dated, not to mention that it easily attracts smudges and dust. Samsung calls it Awesome Black for the A36, but if anything it's more of a mid gray. Pick the lavender if you can, though the A26 comes in only a darker shade of black. Look at the competition—the stunning bright blue of Motorola's Moto G Stylus and its vegan leather texture, or the unique stylings of the Nothing Phone (3a) series, all under $400—and you'll feel robbed. Phones are personal and should have character; these galaxies are devoid of it. They're fairly large phones with 6.7-inch AMOLED screens, with a 120-Hz refresh rate. I had no trouble using them on sunny days as the screen gets nice and bright, though colors look washed out when it cranks things up. The A36 gets slightly brighter, and colors don't look as faded in sunny conditions. The screen is interrupted with a teardrop-style selfie camera on the A26, whereas you get a more modern floating camera on the A36. On the hardware, the A26 still retains the microSD slot, so you can expand storage past the internal 128 GB. You have no such luxury on the A36, which seems odd considering its higher price. The A36 does have an in-display fingerprint sensor versus a capacitive sensor on the power button of the A26, though I found it slower and not as reliable. Here's the conundrum: I had a better overall experience on the Galaxy A26 than the Galaxy A36. It's baffling considering the $100 price difference between the two—more should be better, right? This was most pronounced with performance. Galaxy A36, left. Galaxy A26, right. Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

Motorola's next budget-friendly phone shows its slim chassis in leaked renders

Motorola has different series of phones that cater to different budgets. The Moto G series has been specially designed to serve customers who can't afford mid-range and high-end phones or simply don't want to spend more on an Android smartphone. Two new Moto G series phones are likely to be announced very soon, the Moto G56 and Moto G86. Today, we're going to talk about the former, which will be launched as one of the cheapest members of the family. More than dozen pictures of the Moto G56 have just been leaked, confirming the phone will be available in four different colors. We also get the chance to admire the phone's slim silhouette one more time before Motorola finally makes it official. Also, rumor has it that the Moto G56 will come in three storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. Some of these versions will pack 4GB or 8GB RAM, depending on the model. Motorola Moto G56 (PANTONE Dill) | Images credits: Besides that, previous reports claim the Moto G56 sports a 6.72-inch FHD+ display with 120 Hz refresh rate and 1,000-nit peak brightness. In comparison, the Moto G55 has a much smaller 6.49-inch FHD+ display with 120 Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 upgrade over the Moto G55 is the battery. The upcoming Moto G56 is said to pack a 5,200 mAh battery with 33W wired charging support, as opposed to Moto G55's 5,000 mAh battery that features 30W wired charging support. Motorola Moto G56 (PANTONE Dazzling Blue) | Images credits: Finally, the Moto G56 is expected to come with a dual-camera setup that consists of a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 main camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor. There's also a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, a considerable upgrade over the Moto G55's 16-megapixel selfie snapper. As far as the price goes, there are no details about that yet, but Motorola is likely to make it available for the same sum as Moto G55, which means the Moto G56 could cost around €160 / $160.
