‘Extraordinary' initiative for M'sians to be announced next week, says PM
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative is expected to help ease the burden of the people. PETALING JAYA : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has hinted that an 'extraordinary' gesture of appreciation for the people will be announced next week. Anwar, who is also finance minister, said the ministry is currently fine-tuning proposals that can be implemented quickly to ease the burden of the people. 'Every week, the ministry reviews possible measures the prime minister can announce to help resolve the people's problems. 'If not on Monday, then Tuesday … give us another two or three days to finalise things. I'll announce it soon. Pray for the best, insya-Allah,' he said at an event at the Universiti Teknologi Mara campus in Penang today, Bernama reported. Anwar said the government is exploring the best way to balance the rising cost of living with the country's fiscal capacity, noting that expenditure for aid programmes such as the Subangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and the increase in civil servant salaries amounts to billions of ringgit. The prime minister had hinted at the upcoming announcement in a Facebook post on July 14, featuring a poster with the words 'Coming soon' and the message: 'An extraordinary gesture of appreciation for Malaysians.' The post caught the attention of many netizens, most of whom expressed excitement over the anticipated announcement, expected to bring widespread benefits.
