Preschooler injured in three-car collision at I-96 and Southfield
A 3-year-old child was injured when they were tossed from the back seat into the front windshield of a vehicle during a three-car crash in Metro Detroit, the Michigan State Police reported. The crash happened about 9:40 a.m. Thursday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 96's local lanes to the Southfield Freeway (M-39). The Detroit Regional Communication Center sent troopers to the scene, who determined that a 32-year-old woman from Detroit was driving the vehicle that caused the crash. During the collision, a 3-year-old child who was in the back seat of that vehicle was thrown into the front windshield. The preschooler was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. There were no other serious injuries reported among those involved in the crash. Access to the ramp was closed during the initial crash investigation. The Michigan Department of Transportation traffic reports listed the ramp as reopened to traffic at 11:15 a.m. "Drivers are responsible for all the passengers in their vehicle," Michigan State Police F/Lt. Mike Shaw said about the crash. "It is even more important to ensure that children are belted in to the proper child seat. Every trip, every time." Michigan's child car seat laws were updated April 2. All children age 12 and younger must sit in the rear seating area of a motor vehicle, and additionally in a child-sized car seat depending on their age and size.

Child, 9, is youngest injured victim of Liverpool parade crash
A nine-year-old was the youngest injured victim of the Liverpool parade crash, police have said. At least 79 people were hurt in Water Street on Monday after a car ploughed into fans celebrating Liverpool FC's Premier League title win. Merseyside Police confirmed that victims' ages range from nine to 78 and that they are all understood to be British. On Wednesday, the force said seven people remained in hospital in a stable condition. Officers have until Thursday evening to question a 53-year-old man, from West Derby, Liverpool, who is in custody on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and drug-driving. Police believe the car which struck the pedestrians was able to follow an ambulance attending to a heart attack victim after a road block was temporarily lifted. A force spokesman said there was a partial closure in place on Dale Street – which leads into Water Street – between North John Street and Exchange Street. Traffic was filtered down Exchange Street to stop vehicles getting on to Water Street and a flatbed truck and traffic cones were used as a barrier, the spokesman said. Water Street leads on to The Strand, where hundreds of thousands of fans gathered to see the Liverpool team bus pass during the celebrations for their 20th Premier League victory. Police have not revealed which drug the arrested man was suspected of taking, saying: 'We wouldn't go into this detail at this stage of the investigation.' A fundraising campaign set up for those affected has raised more than £30,000, including a £10,000 donation from the Jamie Carragher 23 Foundation, the former Liverpool player's charity. The Liverpool Spirit Appeal was set up by the Community Foundation for Merseyside, in partnership with Liverpool City Council, and Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services. Money raised will be distributed to those suffering physical or psychological injuries as a result of the incident, as well as to community organisations.
