TÜV Rheinland announces key regulatory update under Iraq's ICIGI programme
TÜV Rheinland, a global leader in quality, safety and certification services, announces a critical regulatory update mandated by Iraq's Central Organisation for Standardisation and Quality Control (COSQC). Effective June 17, 2025, an updated list of product standards will be applicable under the ICIGI Programme (Pre-Import Inspection, Testing and Certification Programme for Goods Entering Iraq). These revisions impact key sectors, including construction materials, food products, cosmetics and steel manufacturing, ensuring alignment with evolving Iraqi and international standards. The revised standards include, but are not limited to: Construction and Industrial Materials: IQS 1980:2024 (Heat-insulating clay bricks), IQS 5264-1:2024 (steel bars for concrete reinforcement – smooth bars), ENG 92:2024 (Steel bars for concrete reinforcement) Food and Consumer Goods: IQS 2245:2024 (sugar), IQS 15:2024 (olive oil and olive pomace oil) Dental and Speciality Products: IQS 2300:2024 (gypsum products for dental medicine) This update ensures alignment with evolving compliance requirements for goods entering the Republic of Iraq. Importers and manufacturers must adhere to the revised standards to obtain a Certificate of Conformity, mandatory for customs clearance. The updated list underscores COSQC's commitment to enhancing product safety and regulatory efficiency. In line with this regulatory development, TÜV Rheinland reaffirms its authorisation by COSQC (under Iraq's Ministry of Planning) to issue Certificates of Conformity for regulated goods, effective March 1, 2025. The scope includes inspection, testing and certification across sectors such as food, construction, engineering, chemicals and textiles to ensure compliance with Iraqi and international standards. Fares Naouri, senior vice president, said: 'Iraq's growing demand for compliant infrastructure and products requires rigorous oversight. Our COC services, backed by advanced laboratories, expert teams, and streamlined processes, help prevent substandard goods from entering the market while accelerating customs clearance.' Issa Alaydie, general manager for government inspections and international trade, said: 'This accreditation reflects COSQC's vision that all regulated products entering the Iraqi market comply with the applicable Iraqi standards. Through document verification, testing and shipment validation, we ensure a transparent and efficient pathway for imports.' From TÜV Rheinland's scope, the key programme details encompass the following critical components. A full list of updated products is available here. link.

Jakim, Domestic Trade Ministry step up checks on halal certificate holders after Melaka hotel breaches
PUTRAJAYA, May 30 — The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), is actively working to monitor and enforce compliance among halal certificate holders nationwide, ensuring that businesses uphold halal standards according to established guidelines. Jakim director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said this was to ensure halal certificate holders comply fully with the conditions set under their certification. 'In terms of monitoring and enforcement, we at Jakim are working closely with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) because the authority under the Trade Descriptions Act and the Trade Descriptions Order (Halal Definition) 2011 falls under its jurisdiction,' he told reporters after the Jakim monthly assembly here today. He said this when asked on the withdrawal of the halal certificate issued to two hotels in Banda Hilir, Melaka, recently. The action was taken after they were found hosting 'alcohol parties' two weeks ago. Sirajuddin said Jakim viewed the incident seriously and would never compromise with anyone in cases involving the misuse of halal certificates in the country. Regarding the issuance of halal certificates, he said Jakim remains committed to continuously enhancing and streamlining the application and approval processes to ensure greater efficiency and benefit for all stakeholders. 'We are focused on improving and expediting the certificate issuance process so that it can better serve businesses and the public, while maintaining the integrity of our halal certification standards,' he said. — Bernama

Boeing aims to certify 737 MAX variants by year-end, CEO tells Aviation Week
SEATTLE, May 28 (Reuters) - Boeing (BA.N), opens new tab expects to finish certification of its best-selling 737 MAX family by the end of the year, CEO Kelly Ortberg said in an interview with trade publication Aviation Week published on Wednesday. The company has been trying for several years to gain certification for the smallest and largest MAX variants from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. The MAX 7 and MAX 10 have been delayed in part due to concerns with the engine de-icing system. Ortberg told Aviation Week that the U.S. planemaker hopes to finish certification this year, clearing the way to start deliveries of the MAX 7 and MAX 10, "two airplanes that are very, very important to our customers and our backlog.' Boeing's backlog includes nearly 1,200 orders for the 737 MAX 10 and 332 orders for the MAX 7. United Airlines (UAL.O), opens new tab Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella this month told reporters that the company does not expect to take delivery of MAX 10s until 2027 at the earliest. Alaska Airlines (ALK.N), opens new tab officials have said they do not expect to receive the variant until at least mid-2026. Ortberg also said in the Aviation Week interview that Boeing was making progress on certifying the 777-9, the company's largest jetliner in production. When the program was announced in 2013, Boeing planned to start deliveries in 2020. However, it is still in flight testing. Ortberg has previously said publicly that he expects deliveries to start next year. Boeing has 419 orders for the 777-9, according to its website.
