Regina man charged with making child pornography after tip from Middle East

Regina Police Service Headquarters can be seen in this file photo. (David Prisciak/CTV News) A Regina man is facing a child pornography charge after a tipster from across the globe reported him to police. According to a social media post on Tuesday, the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) received a call in the early hours of Monday from a man in the Middle East who claimed to have come across a livestream of a man 'committing an indecent act in a room a young girl was present in.' The man from the Middle East said he had been using a randomized online chat room when he came across the livestream. He provided details and screenshots to the SPS, which led police to investigate two addresses in Saskatoon that were identified as possibly being involved. After speaking to the residents at both addresses, police determined they were not involved and continued their investigation. Meanwhile, the man from the Middle East had re-matched in the chat room with the same suspect and provided police more evidence to assist in the investigation, according to the post. With the additional evidence, officers determined the suspect to be at a residence in Regina. Officers with the SPS contacted the Regina Police Service (RPS) to conduct a call for service at a home in Regina to make sure the young girl was safe. When RPS officers arrived at home, they found the 51-year-old suspect and a five-year-old girl. The man was arrested and has been charged with one count of making child pornography. The man's electronic devices were seized, with the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit continuing to investigate. According to the SPS, victim services are also involved to support the child while the investigation continues. 'Across international borders and provincial jurisdictions, this is a definitive example of how one report can be the difference in rescuing a victim of crime,' the social media post read, with police urging those to report sexual exploitation crimes to local police or the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.

Flight Attendant Who Filmed Girls in Airplane Lavatory with Hidden Phone Sentenced to 18.5 Years

A flight attendant accused of taping his phone to the airplane toilet's lid to film young girls has been sentenced to 18 and a half years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Former American Airlines flight attendant Estes Carter Thompson III was arrested and charged with one count of attempted sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of child pornography depicting a prepubescent minor in 2024. He was arrested in Lynchburg, Va., in January 2024, and plead guilty to the charges in March. He was sentenced in Boston on Wednesday, July 23. Police alleged he had recordings of a 14-year-old and four other girls ages 7, 9, 11, and 14, that were recorded over a nine-month period, The Associated Press reports. AI-generated child sexual abuse images and more than 50 images of a 9-year-old girl who was flying as an unaccompanied minor were also discovered on his iCloud account, reports. His setup, which involved concealing his iPhone beneath a warning sticker that read "seat broken" on the plane's toilet, was discovered by a 14-year-old girl on a flight bound for Boston on Sept. 2, 2023. She snapped a photo of the setup and showed her father, who confronted Thompson. Boston U.S. District Court Judge Julia Kobick called his behavior "appalling" and said child victims' "innocence has been lost" because of his actions. Thompson apologized in court Wednesday, describing his actions as "selfish, perverse and wrong." Thompson, 37, a resident of Charlotte, N.C., was arrested in 2024 after authorities said a 14-year-old girl on his flight discovered his secret recording setup in the bathroom. 'We take these allegations very seriously. They do not reflect our airline or our core mission of caring for people,' the airline said in a statement at the time, per NBC News. Thompson will serve his sentence at FMC Butner in North Carolina and intends to undergo sex offender-specific treatment, the outlet reports. Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? American Airlines still faces a civil lawsuit in Texas from the family of one of Thompson's victims. Paul Llewellyn, whose law firm Lewis & Llewellyn is representing the child's family, told 'We are pleased that the perpetrator has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term so that he can no longer prey on young girls." Llewellyn's statement continued, 'But no family should ever have to endure what these families have gone through.' Read the original article on People

Modesto youth soccer coach faces child porn charges, police say

A Turlock man who coaches a youth travel soccer team based out of Modesto is accused of possessing and distributing child pornography, officials said Wednesday. Turlock's Police Department said a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to the investigation into and the arrest of Matthew Paez, 33. Paez was found to have uploaded child porn files "to an internet-based platform," police said. Several electronic devices found during a search of his home on Meandering Lane are being analyzed for additional evidence. None of the players coached by Paez are believed to be a victim, police said. Paez was taken into custody on Monday and faces one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of obscene material involving a minor, police said.
