Ruben Amorim issues call to arms after Man Utd's ‘disaster season'

The 2024-25 season at Manchester United has been a story of acrimony and asset stripping, chaos and division, incompetence and infighting. At times, it has felt like it has not just been the future of managers, executives, players and – for a brief while – even the club's Premier League status at stake but its heart and soul, too. The club's worst season for more than half a century has tested the patience of supporters like few before it. It has sapped the morale and energy of a staff that have watched hundreds of colleagues lose their jobs. It has raised serious questions about those running the ship. It left the head coach to declare his team may be the worst in United's 147-year history. And it exposed the weak underbelly of far too many players who have not been good enough for far too long. The best news is it is finally over, save for the small matter of a post-season tour of Asia, to which Ruben Amorim and his squad flew off on Sunday night, but not before a call-to-arms from the manager. "If there is one club in the world... that can overcome any situation, it's our club."Ruben Amorim ❤️ — Manchester United (@ManUtd) May 25, 2025 Amorim had revealed beforehand his intention to apologise to supporters for what he termed a 'disaster season', but his post-match address on the Old Trafford pitch also included a plea for the entire club to pull together after one of the most divisive years in its modern history. 'I know it was really hard to support us in many games but now we have to make a choice or we stay stuck in the past because this season is in the past, it's over,' he said. 'We fight each other or we stick together and move forward. 'Six months ago, in my first three games in charge, with two victories and one draw, I said the storm is coming. Today, after this disaster season, I want to tell you the good days are coming. If there is one club in the world that proves in the past that it can overcome any situation, any disaster, it's our club, it's Manchester United.' The performance and 2-0 victory against Aston Villa was a start. If there had been more games like this, United would not have finished as low as 15th, although this has been a season of such small mercies that there was a certain relief at the club that they scraped above the 40-point mark and avoided the ignominy of finishing 17th. Madness from Emi Martinez 🤯A poor backpass from Cash, Hojlund jumps on to it, and as he tries to round Martinez, the Argentinian stopper takes him out and is dismissed 🟥📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) May 25, 2025 From the first whistle to the last, United were the better team, even before the Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez was sent off for charging out of the penalty area and body-checking Rasmus Hojlund NFL-style on the cusp of half-time. As frustrated as Villa were by referee Thomas Bramall's controversial decision to penalise Morgan Rogers for a foul on the United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir in the 72nd minute, two late goals from Amad Diallo and a penalty for Christian Eriksen were the least the hosts deserved. But there were also reminders of what Amorim was getting at when he talked about the need for unity. Before kick-off and again at half-time, dozens of angry fans in the lower south stand protested in front of the directors' box. With those supporters brandishing posters and banners bearing words such as 'no loyalty', 'no compassion', 'greed', 'exploitation' and 'seats and soul for sale', the United hierarchy were left in no doubt about the extent of opposition to plans to relocate fans to make way for VIP hospitality next season. Many of those supporters have sat in those same seats for years but now face 'eviction', as they call it. At the same time, hundreds of fans – led by the 1958 group – marched down Sir Matt Busby Way outside the ground with banners and flares to challenge '20 years of theft and lies'. During the game, chants of 'We want Glazers out' reverberated from the Stretford End. The fanbase is fractured and at odds with the club over so many matters and, on the pitch, Amorim has much to sort during a summer in which he admitted for the first time that United's transfer activity will be 'limited' to an extent by the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules. Alejandro Garnacho was omitted from the match-day squad after being informed the previous day by Amorim at a squad meeting that he should find a new club. Garnacho joined the rest of his United team-mates in a lap of appreciation after the game and brief chants of 'Viva Garnacho' could be heard emanating from one corner before he eventually disappeared down the tunnel. But it would be of surprise to no one if the Argentina forward has played his final game for the club. Napoli, who like Chelsea tried and failed to sign the player in January, are one of the interested parties. Amorim was coy when quizzed on the 20-year-old's future. 'He is one more player of Manchester United,' the United manager said. 'I don't know what is going to happen in the future.' Three players who are definitely going are Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans, all of whom will be released when their contracts expire next month and who were applauded as they said their farewells at the end. A big summer lies in wait. It seems to have been that way every summer for over a decade but it has never felt truer now. Amorim will hope the healing process starts here.

Wind Breaker – Season 2 Episode 8 Recap & Review

Episode 8 Tsubaki orders the boys plenty of food from the club to thank them for helping him before. Now, Ito-san has been dressing up and going out almost daily, as he wants to have new stories to tell when he meets Yui again. In all his happiness, Tsubaki orders dessert for them, but he doesn't realize his vice-captains, Seiryu and Uryu, are also taking the food for themselves. Realizing his mistake, he puts a stop to the orders. He also explains how he ended up dancing in the club. He fell in love with pole dancing when he learned about it, so he instantly searched for places to dance. Unfortunately, there were none close to Furin. His only option was to try joining this club, which accepted him. That's when Kanji arrives and teases him for crying when he asked to join them. He also thanks the boys for helping them and talks more about Roppo-Ichiza. He's the group's watchman, and their mission is to stop any conflict around the area. They're much like Furin, although Umemiya has done far greater and more complex work to change the school and its surroundings. As the lights go out, everyone turns their attention to the stage and Shizuka. She enchants all clients with her beautiful and soothing singing. It feels like she could even bring them to tears with such an amazing skill. However, their happiness soon ends. The guys who attacked her before arrive again and start wreaking havoc outside the club. Kanji doesn't tell Tsubaki anything, as he doesn't want him to worry. He wants to leave alone, but Sakura, Nirei, and Suou go out the door before he can refuse their help. There are more thugs than before, but that's not a problem for Roppo-Ichiza. Even though they're a small team, all of them are elites. Each of them swiftly knocks out two or three guys without help or breaking a sweat. The kids watch the scene with surprise, but something more incredible is yet to happen. When one of the gangsters demands that they bring Shizuka, Kanji destroys him with a single punch. But he doesn't stop there and clobbers a few more guys, displaying a protective aura similar to Umemiya's. Kanji continuously pummels all the other gangsters with ease, as if he could win the fight all by himself. When two guys attack him at the same time, Sakura comes to his rescue and defeats one of them. The boy's strength even impresses other members of the Roppo-Ichiza, like Akihito Miyoshi, who's fighting by Suou's side. While everyone is fighting, Nirei wonders what he could do to help. He understands he can't do what he did during the brawl against KEEL, so he stays back and reflects. He also realizes they are almost out of enemies, meaning the fight is almost over. At least, it'd be good if it actually meant that… Suddenly, a new group arrives, unconcerned by the several knocked-out men on the floor. They are GRAVEL, a team from the Sunaba district, which is incredibly poor, resulting in many of its citizens resorting to burglary and other crimes. Their leader says they'll get paid if they take Shizuka, so he tries to reason with Kanji. Obviously, neither the Roppo-Ichiza nor the Furin boys will give up without a fight. But Kanji surprises him and Sakura by saying he doesn't even care if he loses the fight; no matter what happens, no one will touch the girl. The Episode Review Wind Breaker expands its world in a really interesting way. Although it has a 'gang of the arc' style (similar to a villain of the day type of deal), they always serve a bigger purpose. For example, KEEL transformed Sakura into a better leader and made him understand his weaknesses. And they paint a clearer picture of the city for us. So, even if we don't know their lasting effects, GRAVEL and Roppo-Ichiza show how other people band together to fight against a situation. Be it poverty or simply guaranteeing entertainment for others. It's also entertaining to think about how they'll affect the protagonists. Even though it's too soon to say, Kanji's mindset about losing a fight not mattering will probably influence Sakura in some way. He has just started thinking about depending on others, but he's still obsessed with fighting and winning. So, he might actually learn a thing or two from losing (or fighting differently). Still, it's an odd choice to take Tsubaki out of the fight. We learn a lot about the characters from seeing them confront other gangsters, so he'll probably find his way into the conflict later. It'll be even greater if the creator adapts his style to his way of thinking or flexibility. He enjoys dancing, so seeing that affect his brawls would be a nice touch. Beautician who called mixed-race bouncer the N-word 25 times before he found his fiancee's windows smashed in avoids jail

A beautician who spat at and called a mixed-race bouncer the N-word 25 times after he refused her entry to a club has avoided jail. Sharon Quinn, 28, was denied entry to the Banff club in Southport after arriving drunk and throwing a drink over a man in the queue. The bouncer, Ethan Obom returned to the entrance at 2am and found Ms Quinn was still there. He asked her to leave and in response she spat in his face, went on a racist tirade and threatened to smash the windows of Mr Obom's home and assault his fiancée and child Her partner then punched Mr Obom. Mr Obom called the police but shortly after his girlfriend Jessica Humphreys said their front bay windows had been smashed in. Ms Quinn denied smashing the windows and blamed her behaviour on losing her mother, grandmother and best friend in the space of a year. In a statement Mr Obom said: 'Miss Quinn said to me: "I am going to come to your house and throw a brick through your window. I am going to smash your girlfriend's head in and smash your kid's head in". I tried to get her out of the queue and at this point Miss Quinn's boyfriend punched me. 'Miss Quinn made threats to smash my windows and a short time later, the windows to my girlfriend's property were damaged. 'I am fearful that she will return to my girlfriend's property. If I am not around. I do not know what she will do. That night I immediately left work as I did not feel it was safe to leave my partner and child in the property on their own.' At Liverpool magistrates court Ms Quinn pleaded guilty to making threats to damage property, assault and racially aggravated intentional harassment on October 27, 2024. The beautician from Ainsdale, Merseyside, who went to school with Mr Obom was sentenced to a 12 month community order with requirements that she complete 20 days of rehabilitation activity and wears a sobriety tag for 120 days as part of an alcohol monitoring programme. She was also given a restraining order prohibiting her from contacting or approaching Mr Obom for two years and she was made to pay him £100 in compensation along with £199 in prosecution costs and surcharge. 'On the night I was at the entrance where clientelle usually queue,' Mr Obom added, 'I saw Miss Quinn but as I went to speak with her I saw her having an argument with another male. 'She threw a drink and I denied her entry due to her behaviour.' Mr Obom who is mixed race, black and white British said the racist abuse caused him 'alarm and distress'. Ms Quinn, who has one child, studied hair and beauty at Southport College had a previous motoring conviction from 2022 for failing to provide a specimen of breath. Her lawyer Alison Sharples said in mitigation: 'She has never accepted that she was the person who caused the damage to the window. But she accepts that she made threats to cause criminal damage. 'The complainant is known to her. as they went to school together. But it is clear more went on than meets the eye. She is a young woman who has a lot going on dealing with multiple mental health diagnoses. You can see what happened in relation to her mum. 'It was absolutely horrific for her to have to deal with that as a young woman. On the day in question she actually said in one of the messages to the complainant, "I was not myself". She accepts that she was drinking to excess and behaved in a manner that was completely unacceptable and wrong. She held her hands up and said "I know I have done something wrong." 'This offence was borne out of having too much alcohol of the night and the stress of everything else she has been dealing with the last few years'. In sentencing JP Linda Phillips said: 'I suggest that you do not drink alcohol now.'
