Kendrick Lamar to headline Aussie Spilt Milk festival
One of Australia's biggest touring day festivals is back with two superstar rappers to headline, giving hope to the beleaguered live music industry. Kendrick Lamar and Doechii will arrive Down Under in December as the headliners at the 2025 music festival Spilt Milk, owned by US entertainment multinational Live Nation. The Grammy Award-winning US artists will play at Ballarat, Canberra, the Gold Coast and Perth. A number of international and local favourites were confirmed on Friday, including Sara Landry, Dominic Fike, ScHoolboy Q, Chance Peña, The Rions, d4vd, Mia Wray, Ninajirachi. Lamar's announcement as festival headliner also fuelled speculation he will announce a solo tour to other capital cities including Sydney and Melbourne. The welcome news marks a strong comeback for the festival, which cancelled its 2024 event mid-last year. At the time, organisers issued a statement on Instagram, saying: "Sorry pookies, we couldn't get you the Spilt Milk you deserved this year." The festival joined a growing list of live music events forced into hiatus due to skyrocketing production costs. More than 40 music festivals across Australia have been cancelled since 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic decimated the live-music sector. Rising operational and insurance costs continue to bite, forcing the average cost of running a music festival to climb to $3.9 million, according to findings from Creative Australia's 2024 Soundcheck report. Among 51 Australian music festivals surveyed, half turned a profit and more than one third lost money with a median deficit of $470,000. The list of festivals that have disappeared is long and growing, with Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival, Harvest Rock, Splendour in the Grass and Souled Out among those cancelled. Earlier in 2025, the NSW government announced it would step in to disburse $2.25 million in emergency funding as part of its Contemporary Music Festival Viability Fund, with five festivals including Bluesfest to receive up to $500,000 each. Spilt Milk tickets go on sale on May 9, with pre-sales from May 8.

Punters go wild over ‘insane' headliners for Aussie music festival
Don't miss out on the headlines from Music Festivals. Followed categories will be added to My News. Finally an Australian music festival story that isn't bad news. Amid what feels like a never-ending slew of Aussie music festival cancellations, Spilt Milk festival this morning announced their 2025 line-up – and organisers have pulled off quite the coup, with two of the biggest rappers in the world as headliners. This year's Super Bowl halftime performer Kendrick Lamar and Doechii, who scored a recent Aussie number one with her hit Anxiety, will headline Spilt Milk across four festival dates in December. Both rappers have had huge years: Lamar swept the Grammys with his brutal Drake diss track Not Like Us, while Doechii's debut mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal has turned her from critical darling to top-charting rap star. Kendrick's headlining … Picture: AP … and so is Doechii. Picture: Getty Also on the line-up are Dominic Fike and ScHoolboy Q, d4vd, Nessa Barrett, Sofia Isella, Skin On Skin, sombr, Club Angel, The Rions, South Summit and more. The initial reaction from Aussie punters – starved of a good line-up announcement amid all those cancellations – has been overwhelmingly positive. 'spilt milk line-up is actually insane,' one fan raved on X. Another agreed: 'spilt milk getting kendrick, doechii & dominic fike is kinda insane.' 'SPILT MILK LINE UP ATE OMFG,' was another all-caps rave. 'how tf did spilt milk afford kendrick lamar?' another asked. Another wondered how the Grammy winner would enjoy the festival's most rural date: 'No way Kendrick is gonna be strolling around Ballarat …' Watch out Ballarat, Kendrick's coming. It's quite the comeback after Spilt Milk organisers announced in July last year that the 2024 edition of the festival would not go ahead. 'We couldn't get you the Spilt Milk you deserve this year,' they explained, amid reports that it had been difficult to attract international headliners. They joined the ranks of Aussie festivals who'd announced cancellations, among them Splendour in the Grass, Groovin the Moo, You & Me and Harvest Rock. Even Byron Bay's iconic Bluesfest will soon be no more, with organisers announcing that this year's festival would be the last. Spilt Milk festival dates Saturday 6 December 2025 – Victoria Park, Ballarat | Wadawurrung Sunday 7 December 2025 – Claremont Showground, Perth | Whadjuk Saturday 13 December 2025 – Exhibition Park, Canberra | Ngunnawal Sunday 14 December 2025 – Gold Coast Sports Precinct, Gold Coast | Kombumerri All ticketing info at Originally published as Punters go wild over 'insane' headliners for Aussie music festival

Punters rave over 'insane' headliners for Aussie music festival Spilt Milk: 'You deserve the biggest kiss'
Aussie festival fans are rejoicing with the line-up announcement for the 2025 Spilt Milk Festival. Organisers of the biggest single-day festival in the country revealed this week it will make a triumphant comeback this year after a 2024 hiatus left music fans heartbroken. Going one better on Friday, Spilt Milk took to social media to reveal the formidable lineup which boasts two of the biggest rappers in the world as headliners. Multiple Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar, fresh from his Super Bowl half-time performance will lead the charge alongside fellow US rapper Doechii, across all four festival dates. Florida-based Doechii is currently riding high off the back of an Australian number one for her track Anxiety. The announcement comes as Kendrick's rival Drake, who was also recently Down Under, launched legal action against the Like That hitmaker alleging his Super Bowl performance was defamatory. The impressive lineup will also include the likes of Sarah Landry, Dominic Fike, ScHoolboy Q, d4vd, Nessa Barrett, Sofia Isella, Skin On Skin, sombr, Rebecca Black, The Rions, South Summit, and many more. Festival fans took to social media to issue their joy over the impressive lineup. 'Oh you deserve the biggest kiss,' one fan offered, while another chimed in with a similar, 'Screaming crying throwing up omgggg.' Another gushed: 'Okay boo you really outdid yourself with this one, proud,' while another deemed it the best Aussie festival lineup in recent memory. 'This is THE LARGEST Lineup I have seen for an Australian festival in YEAAARSS,' they exclaimed. 'Ya'll really waited a year to take GOAT status like that huh?' Others were quick to urge organisers to be careful where they place Kendrick and Doechii on the anticipated bill. 'Don't u dare put Kendrick and doechii on at the same time,' one fan directed, to which organisers replied with an assuring, 'They won't be clashing.' Not Like Us hitmaker Kendrick Lamar (left), fresh from his Super Bowl half-time performance will lead the charge for the 2025 iteration. Fellow US rapper Doechii (right) is currently riding high off the back of an Australian number one for her track Anxiety Making the announcement of the festival's return on Thursday, organisers shared a clip which captured Spilt Milk's highlights from previous years and captioned it with some exciting words. 'Spilt Milk summer confirmed. See you in Ballarat, Perth, Canberra and Gold Coast this December,' they began. 'Lineup droppin' crazy soon, sign up in link in bio to get it to your inbox.' The festival will kick off in Ballarat on December 6, setting the stage for a series of epic performances. Perth's Claremont Showground will host the festivities on December 7, followed by Canberra on December 13 and the Gold Coast on December 14. These dates mark a return to some of the festival's favourite destinations, promising to bring music lovers together once again. Speculation about the lineup is rife, with fans eagerly anticipating the reveal in the coming days. Past festivals have seen a stellar cast of performers, including Post Malone, FISHER, Khalid, Lorde, Flume and Latto ensuring each year delivers top-tier entertainment. The festival will kick off in Ballarat on December 6, setting the stage for a series of epic performances In 2024, the festival took an unexpected break, leaving many wondering about its future. In July, it was cancelled in a major blow to Australian music lovers. It was the latest in a series of festivals to be cancelled as the industry endured a tough year. The organisers broke the sad news on Instagram. 'Sorry pookies, we couldn't get you the Spilt Milk you deserve this year. Sooo imma dip for a bit and come back when I can make all ur dreams come true. i miss u xx SPILT MILK,' the statement said. Spilt Milk 2023 was headlined by Post Malone and Dom Dolla. It was unclear why the festival was called off, however others struggled to sell enough tickets. Splendour in the Grass, Groovin the Moo and Falls Festival were all cancelled last year, as were Sunshine Coast's Caloundra Music Festival, Victoria's Coastal Jam and Adelaide 's Vintage Vibes Festival. Fans were upset to see Spilt Milk cancelled, but were relieved by early signs suggesting it would be back next year. 'I think I'd rather see you guys take a year off than drop a lineup people would be disappointed with. Hopefully you'll come back with a bang next year,' one said.
