OPP arrest wanted man at Manitoulin motel

(File photo/Ontario Provincial Police/X) A 63-year-old Elliot Lake man faces multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police arrested him at a Manitoulin Island motel. On May 21, the Manitoulin OPP detachment responded to a disturbance involving a tenant and an employee at a Mindemoya motel. 'Police learned that the tenant was wanted on numerous warrants and there was information he was in possession of a gun,' OPP said in a release Friday. With assistance from various specialty units, including the canine unit and emergency response team, officers arrested the man without incident on May 22. He faces new charges for unauthorized possession of a weapon, failing to comply with a probation order, and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. Additionally, outstanding warrants from East Algoma OPP included three counts of failing to attend court and one count of failing to comply with an undertaking and a separate warrant from Manitoulin OPP alleged two counts of operation while prohibited. The accused was held pending a bail hearing on May 23.

Several trains vandalized by large group in downtown LA
Los Angeles police Saturday responded to a disturbance near downtown that eventually escalated into vandalism. The initial calls came in around 9 p.m. of a disturbance in the 1700 block of Trinity Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Later that evening, police received additional reports about a large group setting off fireworks on a rooftop. Officers arrived at the scene and called for backup. According to police, several individuals vandalized trains, leading to a temporary suspension of train service. The area was cleared by 1 a.m. on Sunday, and no arrests were reported.

Man fatally shot after confrontation with Plano police officers
A man was fatally shot late Wednesday night after a confrontation with Plano police officers. The Plano Police Department said officers responded to a disturbance at a home near Ridgewood Circle and 15th Street around 9:15 p.m. The person who called 911 said a woman was shot in the home. When officers arrived at the scene, a man confronted them outside and fired a weapon at them. An officer returned fire, killing the man, according to PPD. Det. Alexandra Cole said that all police officers involved with the incident are OK and the only victims are the man and the woman. The woman was taken to a local hospital and is also expected to be OK, Cole said. PPD said the investigation is ongoing.

Teen appears in court charged with Kayden Moy murder
A 17-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of 16-year-old Kayden teenager, from East Kilbride, died after a large disturbance on Irvine beach on Saturday 17-year-old charged in connection with his death, also from East Kilbride, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court earlier and made no was remanded in custody and will appear again within eight days. Kayden Moy was left seriously injured after being stabbed during the disturbance on Saturday, and died from his injuries the following a statement issued after his death, the boy's family said he was "loved by so many" and that he would be sorely missed by his parents and two younger brothers.

Woman killed in Fort Lauderdale Airbnb shooting, police say
A Fort Pierce woman was fatally shot during a disturbance at a Fort Lauderdale Airbnb early Monday morning, police confirmed. The victim, identified as Myrah Zeigler, 18, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she later died. Authorities are now investigating the case as a homicide. Investigation underway in fatal shooting The Fort Lauderdale Police Department said the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Southwest 16th Street. A group of adults had gathered at the home when a disturbance escalated into a physical fight. During the confrontation, a man pulled out a handgun and shot Zeigler. Responding officers found her lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she did not survive. Airbnb issues statement following incident Following the shooting, Airbnb released a statement addressing the tragedy: "Airbnb bans parties, and we condemn this senseless act of gun violence. We suspended the account of the guest who booked this reservation while we look into the situation further, and we stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation." Residents describe confusion and fear Neighbors recalled hearing a commotion before gunfire rang out. One person was seen running from the scene, claiming to have been shot. A resident shared cell phone footage recorded during the chaos, in which loud coughing can be heard. The witness believes pepper spray may have been used inside the house. Police presence preceded shooting, witnesses say According to those living nearby, officers had already responded to the home due to reports of a loud dispute. One neighbor said they overheard threats being made just minutes before shots were fired. "People here, but in the house, I did hear, 'I'm going to shoot you. I'm gonna shoot you,'" the neighbor told CBS News Miami. "So, I'm like, all right, cops are here, everything's under control. And then I would say about 10 minutes later, I hear shots, helicopters start flying around, cops going everywhere." "So, it sounded like there was a girl confronting a guy about dating a friend or something like that. So it was just something that sounded like it was something simple." Scene yields clues amid uncertainty Investigators combed the street and nearby yards for evidence. Items such as clothing and a slipper were found at the scene, though it remains unclear whether the shooting happened inside or outside the residence.
