Councillor 'devastated' after A47 dual carriageway scheme axed

Councillors have criticised the decision to axe a scheme that would have seen a section of the A47 turned into a dual carriageway. National Highways planned to make a 1.6-mile (2.5km) stretch between Wansford and Sutton, in Cambridgeshire, into double Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander later announced plans to cut the £100m scheme and accused the previous Conservative government of promising infrastructure projects with "no plan to pay for them".Marge Beuttell, Tory, Huntingdonshire councillor, said he was "devastated" by the news and added: "The deaths that we've had [on the road]... seem to count for nothing." She added: "I think they are making a big mistake by not doing it; it has been a danger area for years, and for me, they have not taken that into account."Beuttell said the scheme looked as though it was going ahead until two months ago, and she was "appalled" it was cancelled. "A lot of money has already been spent on this project, so I just don't understand why they're pulling it," she said. "I think they are making a big mistake." Mick Grange, Conservative Sutton Parish councillor, said: "I've lived in the village for just over 30 years and I've seen numerous deaths along that stretch of road."Cyclists won't use it - it's just unsafe."Grange said speed cameras and speed limits should be put in place in the area to make the area Carling, Labour MP for North West Cambridgeshire, said a lot of residents will be "really disappointed that the scheme isn't going ahead now", but was hopeful a positive solution would be found. He added: "This may not have come as an immense surprise. The previous government did not leave us enough money to fund all of the schemes that they promised."He continued: "I'm hopeful that their will be a positive way forward." Work on Izki-Nizwa Dual Carriageway road project begins

Izki: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology has commenced the implementation of Izki-Nizwa Dual Carriageway road project, spanning 32.2 kilometres. The project starts at the southern Qarut roundabout in the Wilayat of Izki, passes through the Niyabat of Barka Al Mouz, and ends in the Farq area of the Wilayat of Nizwa, with a total cost of approximately OMR47 million. The project includes several roundabouts, traffic signals, a vehicle underpass to enhance traffic flow, and the conversion of all surface crossings into box culverts to ensure uninterrupted traffic during wadi flooding.

Dramatic drone pictures show the scale of construction work required to build a dual shots from National Highways show just one part of the £460m A417 Missing Link scheme, which will span the three miles (5km) between Gloucester and June, workers began moving 10 huge, 100-tonne steel beams into place to support what will be the largest "green bridge" in the UK, serving walkers, cyclists and horse riders as well as wildlife. The Gloucestershire Way bridge at Shab Hill will cross the eight lanes of the dual carriageway and will be planted with native grass and hedges. Green bridges create a safe crossing point for wildlife and join up habitats, making animal populations more resilient, according to the National Highways project is due to be completed in 2027.

New section of Sultan Turki bin Said dual carriageway opened in South A'Sharqiyah

Al-Kamil W'al-Wafi - Acting in cooperaton with the Royal Oman Police, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology today opened traffic along a new section of Sultan Turki bin Said dual carriageway (Phase II - Part II). This 9-km section extends from the Wilayat of Al-Kamil W'al-Wafi to the Wilayat of Sur. Muneer Ahmed Al Alawi, Director of the Roads Department in South A'Sharqiyah Governorate, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the new section of the road consists of three lanes in each direction. Al Alawi explained that, to enhance the safety of road users, the road has been equipped with all traffic safety measures, including iron barriers, traffic signs, roadside support structures and tunnel crossings.
