Padel meets peaks: International players compete in Jabal Akhdar tournament as dusitD2 Naseem champions sports tourism
Jabal Akhdar: Top padel players from across Oman and abroad converged at the scenic heights of Jabal Akhdar on Friday to compete in an exhilarating tournament hosted by dusitD2 Naseem Resort. More than just a sporting event, the tournament served as a dynamic initiative to blend tourism with athletic excellence, drawing both sports enthusiasts and inhouse guests to the mountainside venue. The event is part of a broader vision set by the resort to transform itself into a leading integrated tourism destination in Oman. 'Our vision is to evolve into a truly integrated resort,' said Jagdeep Thakral, General Manager of dusitD2 Naseem. 'Initially, we were known as a family resort. But with the growth in corporate retreats, school group visits, and now competitive sporting events, we are repositioning ourselves as a destination that offers it all.' According to Thakral, the resort's integrated complex is built on five core pillars. 'First is adventure. We've developed the Sultanate's only full-fledged adventure park. Adding to it we have mountain biking trails, and scooters to bring adrenaline to the mountains,' he said. The resort's top official added: 'The second is sport. Our padel and volleyball courts are unmatched in the area, giving us an edge in hosting tournaments and sports events.' Thakral then pointed out to the third pillar- culture. 'The resort offers an immersive Arabic experience through traditional cuisine such as Zarb, live Arabic music featuring the oud, and upcoming Tanoura dance performances to captivate guests,' he said. The general manager said that 'sustainability and nature' is the fourth pillar. 'As part of its green initiative, the resort has planted 400–500 rose bushes, 200 olive trees, and other flora to create a vibrant natural landscape,' he added. And the last pillar is 'shopping and lifestyle'. Thakral said that 'plans are underway to establish a local-style souq (market), bringing authentic shopping experiences directly to visitors.' 'The first padel tournament is a direct extension of this vision. No other mountain destination in Oman offers such a holistic experience under one roof,' he said. Looking ahead, dusitD2 Naseem is set to launch a series of high-adrenaline adventure events, including the Mountain Man Challenge, the Celebrity Challenge, and the Jabal Akhdar Challenge, among others.

Tourism gets a boost as players showcase their skills at Jabal Akhdar padel court
Jabal Akhdar: Top padel players from Oman and foreign countries descended at Jabal Akhdar to take part in the tournament organised by the dusitD2 Naseem Resort on Friday. With an aim to promote tourism along with sport, the tournament gathered tennis connoisseurs and curious visitors. While talking about the tournament preparation, Jagdeep Thakral, General Manager at dusitD2 Naseem, said: 'Our hotel's vision is to become an integrated resort. Earlier, we were projected as a family resort but as we started hosting corporate meetings and school groups, we are positioning ourselves as an integrated tourism resort.' The General Manger said that our integrated complex idea is built on 5 or 6 pillars. 'The first pillar is adventure for which we have built an adventure park, mountain biking, ski, and scooters. All related to adventure. Our second pillar is sport for which we have created facilities that no other hotel here has. We have a padel court, volleyball court. And the third pillar is culture. 'We have an Arabic restaurant with Zarb food and added Arabic band to boost the cultural aspect. It's a treat listening to the Arabic song with oudh and sumptuous Arabic platter. We are also adding Tanoura dance to entertain guests. And conserving nature by reducing carbon emission is also on our agenda.' For the green initiative, he said that we have planted 400-500 plants of roses, 200 olive trees and many more.' 'Our plan is to create a bed of flowers so that people can come and watch the amazing landscape. Our last pillar is shopping and lifestyle. For which we are trying to build a souq so that everything comes under one roof. Nobody in the mountain will give you this composite thing. The padel tournament is an extension of this vision. Once this integrated complex is ready, our resort will become people's first choice,' the General Manager added. 'We are planning a series of adventure sports activities. The first will be a mountain man challenge. Next will be the mountain man celebrity challenge, mountain man hotel challenge and next month we are planning mountain man Jabal Akhdar challenge. We will start promoting the two set padel soon. By doing this, we are trying to build every activity under our pillar vision. In the coming years, we are going to have the best team and best facilities in the mountains.'

Surge in Iftar, Suhoor bookings as Ramadan spirit fills the air in Oman
Muscat: The holy month of Ramadan has ushered in a renewed enthusiasm for communal dining, with hotels and restaurants across Oman witnessing an unprecedented surge in bookings for Iftar and Suhoor meals. From luxury resorts to mid-range establishments, the demand for Ramadan dining experiences has exceeded expectations, driven by early reservations and a growing appetite for unique culinary offerings. The Chedi Muscat has reported a significant increase in bookings, particularly from corporate groups looking to host team Iftars. 'Bookings have been even better than usual,' said Karim Bizid, General Manager of The Chedi Muscat. 'People have decided to plan even more ahead. In the past two years, we saw very last-minute bookings, but this year, guests are securing their tables well in advance.' A similar trend has been observed at dusitD2 Naseem Resort in Jabal Akhdar, where both room sales and Iftar bookings have surpassed last year's numbers. General Manager Jagdeep Thakral attributes this to an increase in corporate travel and the resort's distinctive Bedouin-themed Ramadan experience. 'Our Bedouin concept, combined with live music, has been a major draw this year, attracting guests looking for something beyond the traditional buffet,' he said. Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, marking 20 years of heartfelt hospitality, has established itself as a central hub for Ramadan festivities. This year, the resort has elevated its offerings with carefully curated Iftar and Suhoor experiences, including lavish buffets and an exclusive Suhoor setup at the SiO2 Beach Lounge, allowing guests to dine under the stars by the sea. 'Ramadan at Shangri-La has always been a favourite among Muscat residents. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we have introduced unique experiences like the 'Iftar To Go' box and special gift hampers for Ramadan and Eid,' said Philippe Kronberg, General Manager of Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah and Shangri-La Al Husn. Beyond Muscat, cities like Salalah, Sohar, and Sur have also embraced the Ramadan spirit, with restaurants and hotels rolling out special menus and atmospheric dining setups. Several venues have incorporated Arabic music and live performances, enhancing the overall experience and creating a festive ambiance. Social media platforms have also played a key role in amplifying Ramadan offerings. W Muscat has been actively promoting its Iftar experience, highlighting live grills and global flavours in an engaging Instagram reel. The surge in Iftar and Suhoor bookings reflects a collective eagerness to embrace the spiritual and communal aspects of Ramadan. With hospitality establishments across Oman offering diverse and elevated experiences, this year's Ramadan is shaping up to be one of the most vibrant in recent memory. Whether through traditional buffets, beachfront Suhoors, or intimate corporate gatherings, the joy of breaking fast together continues to define the essence of the holy month in Oman.
